Thread: Faction Insurance Day Pass: How much?
SInce it deals exclusively for PvP deaths I would say 50 - 100 FP, bout as much as you get for 1 factional mission. I log in I do a Task for my Faction that day, in turn I spend those faction points earned for PvP decay protection.
We should be encouranging PvP and GCW conflict as much as possible, not inhibiting participation so the game stagnates.
If you make the cost so high as some people here suggest no casul player will ever get involved in PvP because the FP cost is too high and having your insured items decay 20% in one battle from 20 deaths is unacceptable.
Heck if you go OVERT and die in PvP your items should NEVER decay, it should be an Overt Perk. Let coverts pay FP to have decay protection and Overts get it free.

Faction Based Insurance will hurt the very professions that have been targeted for "Needing Love too". Many people have brought up the clear point that the "Imperial Crackdown" will especially bring grief to crafters, entertainers, and others who lack Faction Points by opening them up to attack. They lack Factions Points, and will lack the 24 hour Factional Blanket Policy. This is only the short term effect.
Are you gone nuts? Crafters have the money and they can use it for buy fps from a smuggler. Entertainers donìt need to have spices, or slicedstuff with them when performing in a cantina. An entertainer playing with an 80% composite sliced for encumbrance will end the action in a matter of secs. The same applies to the crafters. if they are no figthers at all i doubt they will need to use armor or weapons while running an harvester check (that is the only time a crafter will be able to get scanned other if he is in a cantina).
The long term effect for Crafters will be a lack of resources. Who knows players better then players (without the obviouse answer of God and SOE Devs...)? I'd say players...I'm one, everyone here is one, and ThunderHeart at least used to be one, and probably still is. So...tell me, how will most players use this Factional Blanket Policy? I'll tell you because I have it allready planned if I even stick around. Forget the stupid animal missions...I'm insuring my stuff and only doing faction stuff! 6K missions are 6K missions...so why risk my armor on stupid creatures and gathering resources when I don't have to worry about it as much when grinding faction missions? From now on...I'll get my exp by killing faction targets because it's cheaper in the long run. Why risk going to Yavin4 to kill Woolamanders for some armorsmith to have good wooly (If it's good at the time) when I can just buy insuance with FP, collect credits, FP,exp, and not worry about losing huge amounts of my "armors integrity" in the process? Shure, there will no doubt be hunting parties, but the problem is just being shifted instead of being fixed. Armor is much too preciouse now, much more after this, to risk losing it on a week long hunting trip.
Do you really use armor for hunting? I wonder how you can kill something with it on. Armor is good for PvP, but while hunting your armor is just a pain raising your HAM cost for specials to levels where you aren't able to kill anything before wasting al your HAM.
Well, i'm only a smuggler/ranger, but i never use armor when hunting and i can kill a lot of high lvls mobs just trapping themspamming my df specials thanks to the extra action regeneration of sunbrns.

50 fp, as that is approx. what you get from a misison
That is what you get from a mission as a noob, missions at 6k cr or over (the ones a master elite fighter can get) are over 80 fps only for completion, not counting the fps you get for killing the annoyin NPCs and the Flag.
As Smuggler i average around 240 fps per mission.
Even though I hate decay with insurance the DEV just need to explain it to make it more acceptable.
SWG SAMPLE LETTER
Dear Cloner,
While we can clone your body to a perfect degree we are unable to copy you clothes or other items perfectly. We can make close copies of your items for a fee, but Since it is not a living being we can not make it perfect. Thanks for understanding the limits on our equipment.

Now on the day pass - Depends on your motives
Motives
1. Increase PVP - Overt = Free Covert = 100 FP Neutral = N/A
2. Money Sink - Overt = 1000cr Covert = 5000cr Neutral= N/A
Just my 2million credits (Inflation)

Exactly - - which is why its flagged towards "Faction Death"

In the teams effort to resolve the PvP Death and Decay, what we are going to be able to implement (for publish 7), is a Faction Combat Day Pass. This "day pass" is Insurance.
You check in with your faction recruiter, purchase a day pass for faction combat (PvP and PvE), and for 24 hours, you will have no decay on your insured items.
How much do you think this should cost?
Aakhperkare brought up a great point to folks who are coming in new tothis discussion:
This is a PvP issue, Exclusively.
The "PvE" part is forwhen a Factioned NPCIncapacitates you- - NOT general PvE. General PvE will remain as-is.

Sorry, TH, this isn't the answer. The idea of decay after insurance is almost universally opposed. There can be no compromise. Decay without insurance is fine. But not when I just paid thousands of credits to insure against it. Insurance is a wonderful idea for a money sink, if implemented properly. It's just not implemented properly.
Unlike most people that log in and threaten to cancel their accounts, I have given my character away, and will no longer be playing. Why? 1% decay, the imperial crackdown (because everything I had was sliced). I loved this game. I was there since launch (didn't beta test ONLY because i was deployed overseas and came back 2 days before it went live) and although I didn't agree with a lot of changes that took place, the majority I DID agree with and felt that more positive changes were happening than negative. Now I realize that not only was I paying for the game, I was going to be penalized for playing the game. My character was a PvP killer (i ONLY PvP'd because i was a master fencer and didn't need armor), on my 13th profession (silent holo), a prominent figure in the best **edit** guild i've seen by far, at no loss for credits, well-liked and overall the most fun i've spent on my computer EVER.
I understand that you're in a hard position, TH. Just because the players are often wrong, it doesn't mean that they're ALWAYS wrong. Stand by them, don't compromise. They don't want insurance decay. I don't know if the numbers will drop or not. It's immaterial. But the game isn't fun this way. That's the issue. You may not be able to get the devs to change their minds. That doesn't mean you should be amiable to compromise. Look out for the players, give the devs a CLEAR message. They don't want the 1% insurance. Period.
TH,
This isn't a faction perk, this is a faction penalty if anything. How many more months of complaining is needed before the 1% decay is removed? If you can't do it for the core players at least do it for the Jedi.
This is the optimal time to prove to the community that you actually listen to the players. Ignore it and you have, well, more of the same.
The thing that amazes me is the devs think that this is going to draw more players into Factional PvP. On the contrary, this is even more of a deterrent to participate for those who haven't spent countless days and hours farming faction points. Hardcore overts will choose to spend their FP's on other stuff like AT ST's NPC's, ect.
I am amazed that you all (Dev's) are oblivious to the fact that 99% of the people don't want this half-assed changed.
actually, its not just clothes armour that decays, its tools too. So, how about use decay on those too?
you use a tool, it decays a bit. You wear some clothes doing something, it decays a bit, you get hit with armour on, it decays a bit (maybe more than it does atm).
You all need to quit slamming TH.
Look at his role. He is a direct liason between the community and the DEVS. He has to take back to the devs good reasons for the things we want. In the pastithas clearly been shown that he will go all out to get us what we want if it is thought out. And he continually challenges us to keep things in balance. Now if you want to slam the DEVS for not listening thats fine but TH knows what he can and cannot push for with them and you cannot assume that all of this is of his making.
Yeah we want no decay period if insured. But that is a moot point since the DEVS have dictated that we have 1% decay. Now the community hated that idea from day one.
The fact is we have 1% decay andwe need to move forward.
The issue at stake now is how do you remove it from PVP so we can improve the game experience. Well it is clear that the DEVS are not just going to give it to us. So what are we willing to sacrifice to get it.
50-100 fp's? Look that is one faction mission a day for a 24 hour pass. Or you can pay 10k or so to purchase them. That is cheap, there are excess credits in this game anyway or can you not be bothered to do one faction mission to save your expensive armor from being decayed.
We will never get anything from the DEVS if we refuse tohave an open mindto the comprimises that are proposed.
Is faction insurance what we want? No, we would all just like to get everything for free. But it does seem like a cheap comprimise since it is clear that the DEVS will not give it to us for free.
I for one do not pvp much because of decay. Will I pay 10K or do 1 faction mission to get the insurance and become a regular in PVP...yes
