Thread: IT 6-6: Imperial Crackdown: Some changes made based on In-Test Feedback
This version of the Crackdown will be better for the game. I am very glad to see rank has a value in the Empire now, and many will be willing to go get more faction points to attain that high rank.
This could finally be a reason for the Imp population to grow a bit and close the horrid gap between rebs and imps.

Sounds pretty good to me; I'm just wondering what's considered 'high rank'.
Thank you! *chuckles* I just wnat ot know what that rank is before I get fined!
TH: some questions from a Rebel:
Any news on how Imperial Crackdown search flip to overt will work? For one thing it seems like overt vs. TEF is bad. How can anyone else get TEF or go overt quickly to help searchee? Heal the searchee after gunplay begins? Grouped with searchee before/during gunplay?
In towns I expect to see groups of Imps following ST squads to get some FP from killing Reb after flip to overt.
I wonder if the Imperial Crackdown squads will be 10k HAM STs or more normal NPCs that a Reb might have a chance against if he can run fast? What happens in the wilderness? Droid detects and STs appear or is droid 'The Law' and you duke it out with the droid?
So now everywhere I go I need to clone (money sink) in case of search/death. Usually clone only for missions or PvP action not shopping/entertainer runs. Now I am REALLY not happy to have a PC outside Theed. I assume Imp towns like Theed will be subject to *more* Imp Crackdown action compared to Rebel towns like Coronet?
Can we bribe these guys? What does it cost a smuggler who is 'hiding' peeps in a group in cantina when group member is successfully scanned? Smuggler should 'pay' something. Or can this not happen? Sounded like smuggler protection only *reduced* not eliminated chance of detection.
Idea for even more fun: What if you or someone you are grouped with is searched. Goes overt. Everyone in group can choose to go overt right there and then and help. All wail on STs. Lose-->die/clone/end of overt. Win or run away-->group members go on bounty hunter terms (for opposing faction only) as 'Wanted' for some period (10-30 min?).
Could we get some more information on this? Or do we just wait on the publish?

They even ask you "are you sure?" and warn you of the implications. No, they are not going to say "This means other players may gank you in PvP", they put it in game terms.
All you're trying to do is justify a bad decision that the devs have made. By your reasoning, there shouldn't even be separate covert and overt statuses--anyone that joins a faction should be overt and susceptible at any time to pvp. They all joined a faction, right? But I expect just as many Imps would speak out against that suggestion as Rebels are now speaking out against being forced Overt.
Obviously, they included covert so that people could choose when they want to pvp. Forcing rebels to leave contraband in a safe deposit or house for retrieval when they want to pvp is unacceptable when other players (read imp and neutral) don't have to do that and when contraband is necessary for the more challenging pve.
By doing this, the devs are saying rebels have two choices: either be prepared to be thrown into pvp by the AI through no action of your own or stop using contraband and have less pve content. This is an unacceptable choice for a game that I pay to play for fun.

But I won't have to worry about being "made" Overt because I think I'll be travelling Overt a lot more anyhow. That way I'll be ready to do something about all the Rebels who get outed for breaking the law.
Comments like yours are why this change is wrong. It's going to encourage Imps to go overt simply to pick on PvEers that are forced into Overt status without their approval. PvPers should be going after PvPers, not drooling like dogs waiting for a covert to be "outed".
And comments like yours will force the devs to acknowledge that this was a bad idea from the start and force them to remove it.
Thank you for making it so obvious that they can no longer ignore the repercussions.

I don't know how long you've been playing, but back in the day, TEFs took an hour to go away anyhow.
When? In Beta? I've been playing since shortly after launch and have NEVER had a TEF last an hour. Maybe there's a reason the length was changed, hmm? Because it wasunfair (ornot fun)maybe?

Your cover has been blown - you don't go back undercover simply by walking away. You need to find someone who can get you new ID papers, etc. Those people are the Recruiters.
How has my cover been blown? Please explain that. Hint: your reasoning up above is not valid. If I commit no crime (and sorry, joining the Rebellion can't be considered a crime because NO ONE HAS KNOWLEDGE THAT I'VE DONE SO) then I can't have warrants and therefore a background check would reveal diddly squat. You don't have a leg to stand on. Period.

If it makes any difference to you, I'm OK with Imperials being subject to the same conditions when they are saluted (and mentioned as much earlier). But I won't have to worry about being "made" Overt because I think I'll be travelling Overt a lot more anyhow. That way I'll be ready to do something about all the Rebels who get outed for breaking the law.
If you plan on being Overt more, then why would you care if Imperials suffer the same penalty? In that case YOU wouldn't be penalized. Sort of like Overt Rebels. They have no reason to fear contraband checks as they're already Overt. It won't make a difference. The ONLY people screwed by this change are Covert Rebels.
Oh and at least you're being honest about why you like the change. You'll be one of the griefers waiting for outed Rebels. Shocker. And again you argue from the point of an Imperial but I'm supposed to take you seriously when you bring up your Rebel alt? Please. You aren't objective in the slightest.

Absolutely PERFECT TH and devs as far as penalties go! Thank you for supporting the desires of the community.
JEST3R
Jester, you're an idiot. It is plain to see. Forcing PvP on people is WRONG. As you can see, this doesn't support the desires of the commuinty at ALL. Perhaps it supports the desires of the PVP COMMUNITY, but that is by NO means the entirety of the community. PVPers are a small part of this game. You keep your stupid l33t ganking griefing PVP to yourselves and stop forcing it on the rest of us. If Rebels want to go overt and get involved in the GCW itself, that's one thing, but this is not a CHOICE here.
Give Rebels heavier fines or something. OR just let the NPC Imps attack the Rebels, not any other Imp declared players.
I vote that you get fired and we get a REAL GCW correspondent who actually knows what he's doing and at least gives a crap about the ENTIRE playerbase.

Th, here's another idea that'd help make this feel more "starwarsy" though I don't know if it's too late to add or not. We know the emporer hates non-humans. How about scaled penalties based on species as well? Maybe a "high rank" is a lower rank for a human than it is for a non-human? How about higher fines for non-human neutrals than for human neutrals? Just an idea I think you should consider at least.
I agree with your post but tell me what noval states The Emporer hates Non-human. Just asking because I missed that somewhere. Well in fact I don't remember seeing non humans in the movies with him, I'm confused, wasn't Nute Gunray 'Viceroy' part of that covert operation 'Un-knowingly' for the Emporer? I mean that was the Imperial goal to make the Impire look like heros, that we are.
Really. This game has the best storyline now I have to pull all my noval out to find the answer to this question. It's the storyline that makes this game so good I can't wait to see the rebels smugglers scrabble.
Oh' wait will that cause a new stream of Imperial avater being made?
I'm glad you guys have decided to make rank worth something. I know there are a lot of people upset that high ranking Imps aren't getting punished... but think about it... if a Imperial Corporal walked up to a Colonel and said "hey what's in your pack"... do you really think the Colonel would comply?
And I also think the insta-overt for Rebs is excellent... because any sort of indication that they are a rebel should make them attackable by the Imperials since they are like the Galactic Police and the Rebels are opposing the laws. Remember it's SUPPOSED to be hard to be a rebel, that's the nature of it.
But again I just wanted to say thanks, because I thought this crackdown was going to be horribly done and just another way to screw the Imperials... but I think this is probably the first real Star Warsy update... I'm pretty excited.
