Thread: Friday Feature Jan 23rd Jedi Revamp
This process is going to take some time, so it will happen in several phases. The first phase is to make some changes (where possible) to alleviate some short term discomfort with gameplay. The second phase will be to rebuild the Jedi system to be quest-oriented; and toinclude the familiar elements of Force Sensitivity, Jedi-oriented quests, as well as many other elements the developers and the community feel should make up the process of becoming a Jedi. (It should also be noted that players who have put in work towards becoming a Jedi will not lose their effort. Some sort of recognition of players' efforts will be included in the new system.)
Thank you Q for letting us know what is going on, but having said that...
This is extremely vague. "Will take some time" ? How much time? If this means months then I could have opened my force slot the "hard" way earlier than that so the obvious question is "Can I still do it that way?"
Quest orientated, I wouldn't get too excited about that. If the quest is, locate a stone knife and kill Darth Vader with it having mastered Image Design then "easier" is not a word I would use. (Figuratively speaking, of course.)
Force Sensitivity, hmm that could be taken a legion of ways.
"Make changes where possible," that creates an uncertainty even to what information was given.
There are those who carry the torch of continuity and I can see their viewpoint very well but I am not among their number. I don't care if I have to slave away to get my force slot or if I can buy my force slot at the trainer for 25 credits. BUT, in general, "alleviating short term discomfort" without regard to long term effects is the downfall of our civilization. I know that isn't fair because there is no information here to say what was taken into account in the long term but I feel the need to point that out nonetheless.
Maybea "continuity band-aid" could be created with the "Jedi-Orientated" quest side. You are helping the Jedi/Dark Jediand after however long they discover your brother/sister named Force Slot-bacca etc. etc. That's lame but you see where I'm going. Also how about, if you plan on making a Dark Jedi then you have Dark Jedi quests and Light Jedi, Light Jedi Quests. At least that will divide the population of people who will no doubt cluster around the necessary NPC's and Points of Interest that are required.
I'm not even touching the issue of perma-death or not.I posted this on the Jedi forum, but I am going to go ahead and post this hear in case the developers missed it there.
I think what all people involved with Jedi want right now is information. I think deep down, most people feel that the changes to the method of unlocking the jedi slot was a good change. The problem is developers, we have very little information on this change. I understand that things are in the planning stage at the moment for this patch, but this patch has a huge impact on how we the player base plan to play over the next few months.
I know you will do the right thing developers.
so are we going to still be playing star wars the one based on the books and the movies?
Because I seriously don't remember the part with the whole galaxy being jedi...
And aren't you guys the ones who wanted to have a balance in the game? who is it fair to have jedi be part of the system?
So, from now on there will be no point to have fighting classes. It will be crafters, healers and then the fighting class would be jedi.
We can have the million Jedi march in theed or something that would be fun.
LOL so many knob head moaning again and again.
face the facts they are going to chang ethe game .. end of
bh ppl moaning mew mew mew cry we cant hunt jedis so what do summit else.
anyone who has tried playing a jedi or know a jedi will relise they badly need help .
trying to get exp bugs in armour gets em killed .. no doubt ppl will say kill something smaller.
trying to get 1000000000 jedi exp "same as combat exp" will take years killing nunas'/chuba's .
plus they need to find a place where noones goes cos they get fools chasing them.
and when u pay out 20 mill for sabres that u cant store . its not nice to die and losethem all andya exp.
maybe they should make all classes perma death then maybe it will teach the trigger happy morons of this game a lesson.and stop them moaning.
so why not let the devs do there job as best they can. as im sure u moaners would moan even more if the game was still in beta .. cry cry cry when u gunna go live plz tell plz tell.. cry cry cry
and if you find the game to hard to play and hard to have a good time with what you have got, fook off and play donkey kong monkey island..
and save the rest of us having to reply to you whining.
/end of rant about knobs
Can one voice really hope to be heard amidst all this? ![]()
First thing, good Devs, you must clarify point #2 of this announcement: will the method of obtaining a Force Sensitive slot be changed? Until you start a new thread to address this point, you're just gonna have to sift through twice as much jive in this thread. I know you've said this thread is only for discussion of the Jedi death issues, but you can't honestly expect us to ignore such a glaring ambiguity. My guess is, you haven't decided yet if the FS slot system will change, and are buying time. If so, there's no shame in telling us that!
For what it's worth, I think you've pulled back too far on the Jedi death issue. I know you have to sell games, but I believe it's the challenge of achieving and maintaining a highly-skilled Jedi character that will keep people playing. Please, put your foot down. A Jedi character should be something a player who's got one can be proud of, and other players can strive for. Why is that so hard to accept? If I one day explore the Jedi path, and find I'm but one of hundreds of Jedi on my server, then that's what will make me wonder why I should continue playing Star Wars Galaxies.
You can't please everyone, it's true, but please... stick to your guns when it comes to delivering on the Star Wars feeling in SWG. To my mind, this equates to: no holocrons, and young Jedi characters in deep, deep trouble.
For what it's worth,
Dara Shaku
This is what are smart Dev would do...
completely stop holocron loots(so all the holos out there will be the only ones left)
any who has had a silent holo is still in the game and can unlock the FS slot the old fashioned way
by doings so the people who have recently payed a lot for holos wont be pissed and the people who have spent months working on the old system wont quit...

This is going to push me over the edge and make me quit, everyone here who is happy obviously are people who havent taken the initiative and work there butts off grinding away at professions they HATE just so they canbecome Jedi, I just recieved a silent holo this week, what a waste of my **edit** TIME, I spent millions of Credits training in horrible proffessions, stuck it out at the cantina for 2 straight weeks while at the keyboard so I didnt get booted, when I could have been out RPing with my friends or hunting some game!!
This is the poorest decision ever made
Yeah...A lot of people here are happy because it's a good decision. Also, it was a good decision to not follow that path if it was so boring...If it was so boring and you hated it and would have prefered to be RPing with your friends...why doing it? Why not going to hunt with your friend. This is not a day job...it's a GAME.
GAME (gam)
n.
1) any form of play or way of playing; amusement; recreation; sport; frolic; play.
Webster's New World College Dictionary
Wow, I don't understand...some peoples spend money (real one) to play a game that they don't like...
...and most of the time they are doing it AFK...
This said, I agree that we should not remove totally the perma death but find a better compromise on making it risky for the Jedi, but still fun to play.
