This sounds like a really good idea. Just make sure it is an instanced place, vice an actually city that will have worse lag than coronet with all the afk spammers. I think it should be a solo quest too, because you are finding the force within you, not your group. I hope the quests are a little different for each person, so there is not a set in stone quest. Those are just my 2 cents. Keep up work like this and the game can only get better.

I think this is the right direction to go. In the story line Luke is being watched from a distance by Ben. When the opportunity came Ben began Luke's training, but again due to circumstances, Luke had to go to Yoda on a "hidden" planet. Luke was able to come and go. His training, however, was one on one. He did not require any one other than his trainer "Ben - Yoda" and his own determination to develope in the Force other than the conflict in which he found himself.(The snow beast on Hoth was a great motivation to make ahuge skill leap in telekinesis) With this in mind the villiage is great, the journal is nifty (nice perk, but not necessary for those of us who can write still) but the need for other players should be extreemly limited beyond the normal activity in the game. (i.e. buying needed items from others and procureing healing / buffing from others) FS boxes are earned through hard work on a personal level and the jedi / dark jedi is a lonely life no matter how you cut it. Monastic life usually is. SWG is a fantastic game for those who do not want to be tied hand and foot to the need for "group" activities like most other MMOG's. The help of aKnight as a Padawan would be great and should greatly reduce the time and stress of achieving Jedi status, but the path should be able to be "soloed" as well though it may take much more time and effort.

No No No No No No No.

If there is a village where EVERYONE is force sensitive, then there is NO WAY in hell they are going to remain neutral, especially with the FREAKING EMPIRE HUNTING THEM. If even ONE Imperial officer were to see/hear/smell of this place, it would be bombed from orbit, in minutes! This is the lamest Idea you've had yet Devs.

Why do we have Jedi that rival the power of Yoda/Windu?

Imo, we should not have made Jedi a hidden profession. It should have either not been in the game so that you (devs) could make a game we enjoy without needless distractions. OR we could have had Jedi in from the start as a starter/elite prof, but limit their advancement to Padawan, this way, they are *OMG* BALANCED with the rest of the game. We should have kept the sabre TEF, kept the 150k bounty to kill them, kept permadeath. If we still had these systems in place, Jedi would appear rare, and elusive.

Death to Jedi. All of them.

And by the way, I also dig what DND_Cas talked about at the top of this page... recurring NPCs would make this game great. Could be done. An NPC 'remembers' that you did a quest with it already and references that quest when you meet them. And it's a random occurrence that they show up to play with you for an hour or so. You're with a group, doing your boring old Janta grinding on Dantooine, and this crazy NPC shows up that kinda talks like a vendor... "Hey there, [your name], how you been, haven't seen you since the [last mission name]. I see you're with some friends. Maybe you'd all like to come along to [next mission name]. SURE/NOT INTERESTED/STOP CONVERSING." Theywould have tohave stats... sort of like a pet that doesn't exactly belong to you. And if they got killed, they could spawn any number of connected characters... a wife who thinks it's your fault, an arch nemesis who pledges allegiance to you now, etc. They could be the 'named characters' for us in Galaxies. And NPCs would be there when you want to do Jedi Quests at five AM and there's no one online...

I HAVE A GREAT IDEA WHY DONT YOU FIX STUFF THATS BROKE RATHER THEN ADDING WORTHLESS THINGS LIKE RACE TRACKS!!!!!

BROKEN FROM DAY 1: Stomach not emptying on death - this is a very fustrating problem that still remains

BROKEN FROM DAY 1: Pistoleer Disarming shot - does not "disarm" anything, as a matter of fact it hardly does any kind of damage at all

BROKEN FROM DAY 1: Pistoleer Pistol meelee defence 2 - does know knock down your enemy

I could make this list 200 items long but I will just leave it atYOU GUYS HAVE YOUR PRIORITIES ALL MESSED UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In one of the posts that the devs put up it said the quests will take place over a period of time does this mean that we wont be able to get jedi at our own speed and that if we finish the quests fast we will need to wait a while to start the next set or is it all open right away? ill try to find the spot that said this also. Ok i found it right on the first line

Yes to both ya questions....

This seems like a great idea the only thing I find a bit dodgy is that fact that you someone will come and talk to you abotu the location of the village.. I guess this wont happen for everyone.. if this is the case then it will be a shame as everyone should have the same chance to become a jedi...

The current situation with loads of jedis running around is a bit strange.. but hopefulyl u guys will brinng back the TEFs and it will solve all that...

Other than that i think this is a much better way than Hologrinding..and might even encourage peopel to role play a bit more ...

Great idea !!!

But make this area not on a "public" planet, only initiated players can go to the Village. This way no harassing possible by all others players.

Interesting. I just hope that the system is difficult enough so every player does not end up FS. It should be as time consuming as say, mastering 25+ professions in the old system was.

Yeah, cuz we all know how hard it is to just grind professions. Oh yeah. Power guilds supplying ya with resources so you could grind the craft professions musta been really hard. Combat? Get buffed. Go to Dantooine. Kill quenkers ad nauseam. Yeah. More challenge there!

Gimme a break. Something tells me it will be much harder to be a jedi after pub 10 than it was prior to pub 9. I HOPE it's as easy to open a slot after pub 10 as it was before.

2 points to make here

#1 The only people in this game who want the village to be so damn impossible is the current in game jedi cause god forbid they had just a little competition when it came time for player vs player as the few new jedi came up. Cause lets face it the unlock rate will be just as it was and that is just fine. The only people who puty up a stink is the current jedi well DEAL WITH IT......... This can quite possibly be the best thing that ever happened to this game and all you can do is whine.

#2 My suggestions would be to not make the village a random spawn that would be the worst thing you can do to such a great idea, and to also make them instanced so no one has to worry about some other jerk player trying to make a good time out of ruining yours. Other than that would just to please make them fun. This IMO is the best idea you'v had yet stick to it, don't make it impossible but don't make it real easy either just keep me interested.

This type of business ethic continues at SOE because of their CEO, John Smedley. Little does the public know, that Star Wars Galaxies was scrapped in 2002 and redeveloped in 14 months from the ground up. In a meeting, they asked how they could get away with releasing such an unfinished product. John Smedley stated that people will buy it because it has a Star Wars name on it - and then laughed as they said they would complete the retail product (which consumers have already paid $49.99 for) with approximately 2 years of subscription revenue

I have read most of the posts here and I didn't see any mention of what I'm about to say... don't flame me if I missed one and repeat someone. I really dig the Village idea, and I have something to add to it. Everyone here knows that in Empire Strikes Back, Yoda sends Luke into the Dagobah cave, and he ends up fighting Vader... I always thought that anyone who went into that cave would see what they feared most. Well... perhaps that could be a part of the Jedi Quests, be it at the FSCS level, Padawan, or whatever. Say the game divides playersinto the six starting professions...it figures out whether you are a marksman, artisan, brawler, etc., by seeing what skills you have most of, then assigns you a 'Yoda Cave' mission, where you have to take on something your profession fears most.

For example: marksman have to kill a creature that stays atlong range... you'd have to find the right rifle, have the appropriate skill, and stay alive. Brawlers take on a cave or battlefield full of tough NPCs that must be done in one sitting... so you'd have to arrangeto have either a few medicswith you or the right stimpacks. Artisans have to make something, of course, but a difficult item, and in a setting where the environment conspires to stop the process... you gotta make a piece to stop a bomb from blowing up a fortress, and vynocks chewing on pieces you've already made, whatever. Medics have to follow an NPC around on a battlefield and keep him alive for half an hour, a la the third CoA mission. Entertainers end up in a situation where they mustdistract NPCs that are going to do something bad like blow up lots of people. Scouts? Good question... you guys come up with something. Point is, there's one thing you as a player hope doesn't ever happen when you're playing your profession, and the 'Yoda Cave' is it.

This'll personalize the Jedi Quests, and if I've been reading right, that's one thing the players want. And it could go a step further... the quests could interlock. That medic who's healing the guy on the battlefield? Well, that's a brawler doing HIS quest. The entertainer is keeping busy the people who want to kill the artisan who's trying to make the item, etc. Marksman and scout could go together somehow, but I'm drawing a blank as to how right now. This way, instead of, 'I did the Entertainer Jedi Quest,' it's, "man, lemme tell you the story about what happened on MY Jedi Quest.' Goes back to the slugline for the game, "live the greatest Star Wars saga ever told... yours." And it includes other players in a way that will encourage them not to screw up their side so it messes up everyone's fun.

Can anyone run with this?
