Thread: Declaring overt
Personally I think this command should be usable without a recruiter and should be temporary like the TEF you get from faction combat. The Temporary Overt should revert to Covert when the TEF wears off.
This gives both sides more flexibility in how we fight, and it is only fair. If a faction scanner can pull me out of covert (sometimes when I don't want to be), then why can't I go overtanytimeI want without having to run to a recruiter.
I am already recruited, now let me fight for the side I chose when I feel I can be of help.

My opinion, make it so you can declare Overt anywhere, anytime. To become Covert you have to go back to the recruiter and wait an hour. There is no reason that I should have to be within 50m to put on my uniform or flash my military ID and fight for my ideals.

That would let you move in armies of safe people to the location of a fight, and have them all go overt at once and ambush...
My response to holocron:
SO?! That's tactics man, not cheap gameplay. It's a good thing if someone can pull off something clever like that. The combat system could use some craftier options. This macro combat is getting boring.
No kidding!
Let us look up the definition of COVERT for a moment...
1. Not openly practiced, avowed, engaged in, accumulated, or shown: covert military operations; covert funding for the rebels. See synonyms at secret.
That sounds mysteriously SIMILAR to "secretly moving an entire army"...
And then, so what if 300 imps go overt in the middle of Theed and jump half their number of rebels?
If i'm covert and I see this, I can just go overt and throw down with my hundred covert rebel buddies!
It's called a RAID!!!
If you don't want to fight...just don't go overt when you're in a sea of red ![]()

A very good idea thats been passed around a bit.
The first idea was that if one overt is present in a group, then they all become overt. Could still be used by having 15 coverts take the Mata bus (shuttle) to a city to scout and then have the 5 overt pop through after the coast is clear "tell" was given. Then 20 overts suddenly pop up on radar. But at least they would be on radar and not covert waiting on a suicide bomber to start the group TEF thing.
I personallythink it should go one step further. Only overts can group together and only coverts can group together. You wish to heal someone? Go overt. Also make it so that the highest rank PC (colonel right now) can make others overt if he is overt. Put a delay on it though so it can't be abused. For instance, if you pull up the radial on an overt PC colonel you will get an option "declare affiliation." After you click on it the colonel will say something like "radioing in your current position and serial number please wait approx 5 minutes for confirmation." If the other side sees the colonel say this they can try and kill him and end the chance at anyone becoming overt (and the guy waiting 5 minutes can't become overt if the colonel dies before his confimation.) This would keep the leaders out of the hot spot of battle and getting people organized (as a leader should.) This would also give high rank a use in the GCW. Note: as stated before the colonel must be overt for others to use him as a faction recruiter.
And to add to that idea, maybe have a Colonel wear his rank above his head if he's overt ? For instance in my case Col. Arasten <LAW>. That way you can see who the person is that's acting as recruiter. Also if there is more than one Colonel, you could sacrifice one and keep the other hidden for a tactical withdrawl and regroup nearby.
This little addition might help provide a reason to gain high rank (bragging rights of having a title as well as being an acting officer that can help you "declare affiliation.") and to help the problem of recruiter camping.
Oh, and this is in response to a previous post discussing solutions to the group revenge TEF problem. Hitting one overt guy and dropping him only to have 2 or 3 TKAs run up and KD/dizzy you is a bit much. If they are all overt you hopefully can plan accordingly. The only other option, and the one that I have taken up, is to assume that everyone is against you and waiting in the shadows to attack. ![]()
Ok i can't read all of these... way too many of em. lol
Me and some buddies were at an Imp facility covert, and along comes 2 or 3 MTKA's, as overt imps.
We're all TEF and can't do squat against them. So they just ghost us around until we have no choice but to attack the Imp NPC's spawning cuz we're TEF. Then during the chaos they attackus. All i can do is just stand there and wait for it. It's not right. If I am covert, and I am TEF, doesn't that mean my cover is blown. Shouldn't I be able to attack him before/as he attacks me? The TEF system is wrong. I am walking around TEF, and I can see my attacker, and he gets first strike capabilities? Witha MTKA, and a few other professions this isn't much of a challenge, just a waste of time. This may sound like a whine, but it's becoming an issue. And you may say to yourself, Yeah yeah yeah whatever dude. But wait till it happens to you. I have seen it on both sides. And BTW, attacking entertainers and afk players in cantinas is crappy for bothsides. Bunch of ten year olds run from cantina to cantina planet to planet ganking up afk people who are TEF, of forgot they were overt. Same thing with med centers. PvP is outta whack. Just my 2 cents though. Probably been said before.
I have one for ya. This is happiening. 16 people go in a base and start the destruction sequense of the base...1 person from the oposing faction walks into the base overt and opens the menu to override the terminal, does /declare and stops the destruction seuense over and over. They don't even have to ve overt to stop the destruction, but they think it is justified if they do /declare and are attackable less then a fraction of a second and stop the destruction of their base because they can't save it any other way..
Can ya please fix this? it's causing quite an uprise..

I meant they walkin covert and then do the /declare and stop the destruction within a fraction of a second... I wish there was an edit button hehe =)

the declare command is a good idea but at the same time its a bad one people would fight adn fight there would be no stoping so put a limit on how many times u can use it in a hour say u can use it like 5 times a hour and after u use them up u either wait an hour to get five more or u can go to a recuiter and buy some more for fps
well this is just my two cents on this matter
Sorry i don't have the time to read 24 pages of post to see if this has been posted, But i have a couple ideas:
1..rank should have a purpose in this game for something other then to tranfer faction points, I suggest have it so that at a set rank a player player can declare players and or group as overt. I know Thunderheart posted that this would allow for ambushes but an ambush is a valid tactic in war.
2..Give a ranger the ablity to create a field camp with a recruiter, this would give players raiding other cities a staging area and pull alot of the fighting away from starports and shuttleports.another idea that goes along with this one would be to have a cloning tube in the camp and have all cloning centers aligned even in static cities, the camp would align itself with the person who placed it (rebel player =rebel camp and cloning). btw the camp destroyable by members of the other faction
If a high ranking character was made able to let other PCs go overt, there should be some kind of penalty for not having to go to a recruiter. That way, if say a party was raiding, the lower characters will think twice about going overt again through the group leader, if the raid isn't going well.
I also love the idea of high ranking officers being able to buy the ability with FP.
Or maybe make the squad leader profession cooler by giving them the ability to make ppl overt. no offense SLs....
