From what I read I took it to mean that the quests replace holocrons..

In that.. when you finish the quest you get your profession hint.

That would make sense. But i dont think, SOE has such intelligent people, to come up with that idea.
I think, i play until july, and than change to WoW.

btw. WoW begins with beta at the end of january! Get there and subscribe if not yet!!!

And they dont want money for that, loke SOE!

I am so angry and frustrated right now.

I am 27 years old. I grew up watching Star Wars. I AM your target demographic, Sony. I bought the game as soon as it launched, and have been playing ever since.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

As you are developers, I am Software Quality Assurance for a major internet secuirty company. When we launched, we were in crunch mode, meaning 16 hour days, seven days a week for 3 months straight. But I had Star Wars Galaxies at home.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

I read about how the Jedi path would be a long and difficult one, but for those who put in the time and focus, they would be rewarded, even before the Holocron system was in place.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

I tried everything that would canonically be part of being a Jedi. Not attacking defenseless NPCs, keeping my dialogue and interactions with characters not only canonical but respectful and insightful, expecting a dev in disguise.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

For 3 months straight from late June through late September, I would work until 1:00 every morning to rush home and get just under 3 hours of gaming in before the server came down and I would crash before waking up again 5 hours later to go back to work, be it weekend or weekday. But I had this dream that before Episode 3 came out, my devotion would pay off, and I would become a Dark Jedi before that happened.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

Finally, we ship our product. I take a small hiatus from playing, and in November, Holocrons appear, and I was ecstatic.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

I instantly took up arms, Mastered Commando, bought an AT-ST, and went hunting for Rebel Surface Marshalls. I believe I killed a grand total of a couple thousand. Looted every one, not a single holo.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

Then, ALL of a sudden, my inventory is flooded with Holocrons after the holidays, so all that work went for nought, as another character not even trying to find holos had a bunch now, just as I did. I was perturbed, but not completely against the idea, because I knew that I knew a good deal about how to work through professions efficiently, and figured I had a leg up on the competition there.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

Now it is January. I'm back in crunch mode again, meaning 16 hour workdays. There are people on my server who have accounts bought and paid for by their family, who don't have to work for a living, who do nothing but sit around all day and have difficulty spelling words like "Conductivity" and "Resistance" who are now Jedi. These people are completely antithetic to the concept of Jedi and wave their lightsaber around like it was bubblegum, but still...

And I dreamt of Jedi.

I go home every night and play. My social life is now basically non-existent, because I still want nothing more than to become Jedi. It's that important to me. When I was 3, after I had seen ESB in theatres I used to run around with my mom's broom pretending I was Luke Skywalker. The Jedi path was certainly for me.

And I dreamt of Jedi.

NOW, all of a sudden I hear that they are revamping the FSS system, and "don't worry, those who have done work will be rewarded somehow". Like HOW? Are you going to make it any easier for me, who has invested the last 6 months of his life towards becoming a Jedi, holos or no, than someone who signs on, teams up with a master doctor, and passes the Jedi missions? SHAME on you SOE. So here I sit at work, on a Saturday, as I work EVERYDAY, wishing I could be at home working on the Jedi path, but alas, for those who don't have to work miserable hours to support themselves and their family, they can get it much easier. So who in this world needs the escapism of a Jedi character more? Those who have the world on a silver platter, or those who work all hours of the day testing computer software, dreaming of another existence. If my work is not acknowledged in some way shape or form that I find acceptable, I am certainly cancelling my account.

That is all. I am more upset than words.

I have mixed feelings...like everyone else...about this.

I did my holocrons, explored every world, got mission badges, warren completed, (still a little pissed that i dont get badges for past mastered skill and think their excuse is BS), happy in a nice PA, in a nice city, tried both sides of the faction spectrum, hunted, entertained...the works. My main fear is that they are going to use the, we cant (are to lazy to) keep track of your past accomplishments, excuse and most of us will start from scratch. New content would be fun and I am for that, but PLEASE, if old content such as exploration and accolades are a factor KEEP TRACK OF IT BEFOREyou put in the new system. I grinded some skills for jedi, but for the most part I got my 10-12 masteries by just playing. (Master entertainer/musician **started the game this way and NEVER afk'd**, Master scout/CH/Ranger **fun combo then the holos came into play**, Master brawler(1st) tailor(2nd) fencer(3rd) silent(4th), in the meantime i mastered marksman, pistoleer, medic, BE just cuz i wanted to break the monatony(sp?))

This is my plea, PLEASE give those of us that actually played the game, and even those who mastered many skills for the past system, some credit. I love the jedi like many, and im not a PvPer, i want to roleplay and enjoy the profession that ive wanted to "live" since i saw the movies as a chid.

Just to clarify, I am for the change in they SYSTEM to get jedi, just dont forget the little people

i do not agree with the change to permadeath, but i knew it would happen so i am not shocked...but thats another issue.

Thank you Dev's, its been rough, but many times i have enjoyed the ride so far, don't completely ruin it for me now.

I'm more and more thinking that it's maybe a good thing and will act as some kind of cleansing...

SOE will loose a lot of accounts (and judging by the quality of some posts, won't be a big deal) and will gain a lot too...

my first instinct is to tottally freak out and **edit** and moan about my and everyone
elses professions. but i will not do that. It is a weekend, everyone keep grinding,
keep doing what you always do, and relax. Wait until monday when we find out the
true meaning behind this contraversial thread. I agree with alot of people about this,
i have spent every time i log on grinding on some random profession. I have found
that some professions are fun, some are not. I will let my voice be heard when i
the true meaning behind this is known, until then, have some pre-maritial sex and
have some fun.

Lord god tell me Your not going to make the servers congested with Jedi by making some 1 night quest.

This WILL make the game generic beyond all recognition if so.

Jedi should be rare, Not attainable by You and Your buds cranking out a series of quests in 1 night!!! *

I dont mind it being quest attained, but i think You may want to rethink the abilities of team play when one helps another get the end results especially when it comes to You and Your best mate running around as Jedi!!

Jut making a quest where I have to run to point X & speak with Imperial X then take that to Rebellion X wont be enough either, This should be THE Quest omongst Quests, The Grandfather of all possible quests, Possibly even a week long quest that must be finished within some time line or even without dying, there could be many ways to make this possible to where one must achieve this alone, I hope this will be the way.

Not the likes ofthe above mentioned *

I bought an Holocron 15 minutes agao and the guy told me AFTER there was a posting.. oh well, sucks to be me, I should have read this yesterday..

Now seriously: This change looks great on a newbie point of view or in the point of view of somebody who refused to get Holocrons.

But, When is it going to take place? They talked about publish 6... what is and when is that publish 6?

I think some people need to know if they just stop grinding and wait for that change or not...

Firstly I like that you've got rid of hologrinding. Its ruined the balence of the game imo.

Jedi were never suppossed to be balenced with other classes. The "balence" was that they were permadeath - so the likelyhood of thier being more than a few around at one time was slim. The likelyhood is now, with the changes, is that there will be alot more jedi around because anyone who opens the FSS will have it permamently.

So my question is - what is the balence now? If the balence isn't rareness then what are you going to subsitute it with? I'm sorry I don't see with what you've shown us so far how there is going to be a balence and how Jedi are going to interact with the other combat professions (especially) so as to not make them useless?

You've caved on permadeath thats fine and substituted it with a skill revocation system. I don't see it working - if they get up high enough in the tree it will still be massively hard to kill them - as it should be for a jedi. And lower in the tree you still get unlimited goes at it and in that respect its still a powergamers paradise.

I guess my main question is then is "What is your vision for the Jedi in SWG"? At least if we knew this we could make informed comments.

FANTASTIC IDEA!!!!!!!! i think its about time we see some UBER wookie carryin a saber

named IPWN YOURARSE walkin around town killin ppl. hehe

just for the quest based jedi system, maybe now i'll get my grandma and playa wookie.

rofl, honestly how hard can a quest be?

1. read a walkthrough

2. quest item needed( items ingame wont cost much. since we were already paying upto 4mil for a holo)

3. non tradeable loot ( camping time.) 0.03% drop rate. even if you afk you'll definately get it in a day.

4. fightinghigh end mobs (round up a nice group, and just leech off the kill)

5. timer ( hehe play something else till then)

hehe maybe i'm not readin it right, but it just seems to simple and easy.

even if i DID LOSE A SKILL? **edit**? lol. i heard you're able to afk macro.

and that after you die 3/5 times within a week. LMAO

even as a tka - rifleman, honestly with high encumm 80% composite. its almost impossible to die in PvE.

as a tka/rifleman i die very rarely in PvP. hehehee so **edit**?

and worst case scenario.if i did die 3x during the week. i'll just use my alt and open his slot and

play a new jedi. lol. even better. maybe i'll use him to get AP.

may the force be with EVERYONE(soon)

I usually don't like sarcastic posts, but this one takes the cake.
