Thread: On Mandalorian Armor
The Real fact, sir, is that Mandalorian Armor is made of cortosis. A rare mineral that has the property to deactivate a lightsaber, creating a loopback effect.
(Check "a Guide to the StarWars Universe" and other SW encyclopedia)
It's not about "blocking" the blade rather than an electronic/magnetic problem.
Get your fact straight.
There is nothing that can completely not be affected by lightsabers, there is only resistance. Jedi Outcast is a pretty accurate game, and Kyle specifically says "Spast! Cortosis is a rare mineral that RESISTS lightsabers." Also, if it was immune to lightsabers... HOW THE HECK DO YOU KILL THE SHADOWTROOPERS?!? Even Vonduun Crab armor, which is the strongest armor I've ever heard of, is not immune to blaster and lightsaber hits. Nor is stormtrooper armor, which can take on most any medium-powered blasters. Face it, there are 3 melee weapons nothing in the galaxy can resist for a small length of time:
Lightsabers (duh)
Force Pikes (what Royal Gaurds carry)
Amphistaffs (sharp edge the width of only a few atoms, carried by Yuuzhan Vong)
1st heres something that goes to crafters who complain about schems that drop, i think that indeed combatprof should be dependent on crafters, however that does not mean crafters should be indipendent(i mean all crafters as a whole yes some crafters mine while others buy the stuff and then craft, your still indipendent) to make things fair for combat prof which SOE is already starting to do... crafters should be dependent on combat prof to good really good schems which should be rare enough where combat prof can charge the crafters loads, then crafters turn around make it and sell it for even more... and for the people complain about how mandolorian would cost to much if its crafter made...elite armor should be REALLY expensive and so should the schems!
2nd for the BH saying they should be the only ones gettig mandolorian armor, it is not realistic that you would need certs for armor, maybe jet packs but not armor, however...perhaps BH get bonuses that others dont when wearing it, or better yet master BH get bonuses when wearing it, also maybe this would be a "epic armor quest" kinda like in eq only instead of an epic wep its epic armor you could do this for every prof, makeing people have more of a strive to master prof for none combat prof perhaps it could be cloths that have bonuses that perhaps surpass the caps
3rd jedi SHOULD be aloud to wear armor HOWEVER it should have great penalties to their fp use, also for epic armor they could get robes and the like that really help out w/ fp perhaps since jedi are so dif their cloths would work differently where u get padawan robes (this would be a quest perhaps u have to prove urself worthy of being a padawan and thats when u get it) in wich u cant destroy or give to people (to prevent people from messing up their chances at good robes) and once u get jedi knight or dark jedi knight u quest for u must prove yourself worth either then u turn in ur old robe for either one and u get dark or light jedi knight at the same time as ur new robe, next u have to prove urself master dark or light depending on ur path, at this point this robe shows you are a member of the jedi counsal or something and it is extremely good. (all of these robes would be none made perhaps as jedi are outcasts and need to rely on theirselves and other jedi instead of the every day crafter)
hope u like my ideas/coments
I haven't heard of the cortosis mandalorian armorthing either, although I'm not an expert about mandalorian stuff. I do know a few things that might help the common sense wheels to turn though...
The mandalorians are a very old group... so there was probably more than one model of Mandalorian armor. In a comic series about Exar Kun's sith war a jedi named Ulic Kel Droma fought the Mandalorian Leader (Mandalore), in order to prove he was tough so that the Mandalorians would help him. Mandalore made him fight using a traditional mandalorian weapon instead of his lightsaber makinga statement to the effect of "Hey, your lightsaber is too strong so it won't be fair, use this other weapon so we'll be on more equal terms..." So, from that we should conclude that the ancient mandalorian armor was still vulnerable to lightsabers, and probably not made from cortosis. Also in the comic, the madalorians had several different looking armors, all cool looking but none looked like the armor the Fetts wore, which makes sense since the comic took place so much earlier.
Since there were several models of Mandalorian armor, it would be plausable that there might have been a varient of it that WAS made either from cortosis, or had some cortosis components...
However, the suits worn by the Fetts that we know from the movies, are probably the most modern version of the armor, and were most likely NOT made from cortosis. If their suits did have special protective features against lightsabers, the movies probably would have at least made some mention to that. But Jango got decapitated by Mace Windu, so we know the neck at least is just as vulnerable to lightsabers as everything else. If the Fetts' armor provided any special protection against lightsabers, we would have seen something to illustrate it at that battle.
Also, to respond to another post on a different topic about jedi and armor...
I agree jedi should be allowed to wear armor, but WITH penalties is a good idea... I disagree with the type of penalties though. The post said there should be penalties to the ability to use the force or force power... why??
Armor shouldn't have anything to do with your ability to use the force. Where I think we SHOULD see penalties would be if the Devs upped the lightsaber block and toughness numbers to a level more in line with what you would expect based off the movies... then yeah, give a big penalty to lightsaber block. So that way you have to choose between resisitance and flat out blocking an attack. Jedi rarely wore armor in the movies (only Darth Vader) so we should see something in game to encourage jedi not to wear armor, like they don't need it... Makes sense right? jedi are so quick that they can block blaster shots, and heavy armor would just get in the way and slow them down.
Also, for the same reason, Jedi robes should NOT be a type of armor. If the defense numbers were where they should be, robes as armor wouldn't be necesary. Heheh, you never saw jedi putting robes ON for a fight, but you did see them sometimes take the outer cloak off... This would support the previous paragraph's basic idea that jedi are better at fighting if they can move freely without armor in the way.

what a joke, make the armor like any other armor in the game (but ,,RIS. has anyone seen a full set?? why because its a JOKE for AS's too make and getting the Loot?? forget that.) make it craftable by Armorsmiths.. thats what they do.
no schems to learn for them, because the armorsmith I know has no fighting skills most real good ones don't.. thats what they do.
no special loot to make it, that will just jack up the price of the stuff for the armorsmith and us fighting players.
the armor will be as good as the armorsmith can make it, just like any other armor.. and its really about the skills your person has and the gear you use. that makes you,,, you.
I do think that it should only be only a "Master Skilled" person can wear
Look if everyone wants to look like Jango Fett so be it.. make the armor have many color options it will get old like the Neo Anderson look everyone was doing for awhile. we need more clothing (capes, hooded robes, and hosters) and many differant types of armor and weapons..
more loot drops
Oh well I hope they do it right and let the Armorsmiths make it with out all the BS that the RIS armor had (still laughing at that one)
just another person lost in the world
