Thread: Declaring overt

Just thought of a little problem, altho 50m isnt that much, but this would allow say a Melee/Bounty Hunter/Commandotoo stand right next too their target go Overt, and get the first strike in. This would be very bad for the Rifleman population, but I am biased since I am a Rifleman.
Actually thisthing would kind of be bad for rifleman, someone could go overt while running at us, and all of a sudden you got 1 or more people closing in on you attacking. And since our accuracy sucks on moving targets we would be better off throwing rocks at them.
make the command work like placing harvesters works,, where you have to be standing still for a certain amount of time (3 secs?) before you can do it..,
i think that will solve a whole lot of headaches - because he is right and this could be a problem

That would let you move in armies of safe people to the location of a fight, and have them all go overt at once and ambush...
How about making it so that if you're the same rank or higher than a covert person you're next to, you stand a chance of identifying them as an enemy agent ?
This would give people an incentive to gain rank as well as reducing the chances of an enemy ambush, perhaps even give something like this to the Squad Leader profession as I understand they're in need of a little lovin' right now ?
Commandos with flame cone 2 are your best freind in camped hq basements. One lights them up, the second finishes them off when all their health is low. 2 commandos clearing 10 imperials in about 30 seconds was awe-inspiring
why the hell should a colonel have to talk to a recruiter to become overt?
rebs should be able to become overt with a command, that would help rebels "ambush" imps and make them be more tactical instead of runnin around overt. the imps have the firepower, why not give the rebs the element of surprise? imagine an imperial walkin around thinking hes cool guy with his 3 at-sts then WHAM 3 covert rebels POP out of their covert guise and wack him. isnt that how the rebs function?
Sorry if this idea is buried in the body of this thread. Im trying to get more active in the dev boards, but reading all this is nearly impossible.
A way to prevent camping of recruiters, and killing noobs and veterans when they declare, is to set a timer. Simple..you declare, confirm your wish, then 30 seconds later, you are declared. That gives you time to get out of range of the campers and set up a semi-decent attack to them.
Im not gonna read through all the pages that are already here, but in HQ situation, make it more like inside the HQ and not just within 50m. Also make the radius larger for the recruiters in town. People love to camp newbs who don't know any better.

We're considering adding a command that lets you /declareOvert if you are within 50m of a recruiter or within an HQ.
Reason: spawn camping in the HQ battles is rather annoying.
Alternate solutions? Loopholes with the proposed solution?

Even better, how about Imperials are allowed to shoot anyone who looks suspicious on sight! You are blue on my screen, you're not loyal to the empire andso I blast you first, ask questions later!
Declaring Overt really shouldn't require a Recruiter, Coordinator, or anyone else. I'm retired military (yeah, I'm 51 and still playing games like this! On the plus side, I'm not the only one in my guild that is, but I've been declared the Old Man of the guild), and having been in situations where we were covert traveling into enemy territory, it didn't take permission from some recruiter to go overt and complete our missions. I think the /declare command idea is great! The problem some have mentioned of lager groups moving in covert and then declaring next to a target, well, that's how we worked, and most all of us came back to tell about it. Try moving groups of soldiers through an enemy held area while wearing uniforms, flashing ID, and basically saying "Hey, here we are! Come get us!". Doesn't work too well. Massive casualties, lots of PCs sent back to the Cloning Center. As it is, Rebels are at an extreme disadvantage right now taking on Imps, in spite of the fact that we seem to greatly outnumber them. When one Imperial player can call up to three level 125 ATSTs with heavy armor, 70% effective on everything, blasters that will hit a Rebel player with enough power to knock him onto the next server, face it, we need a coordinated effort to take them out! How often do Rebels travel in groups large enough and with the proper weapons to take down three ATSTs?
Here's a thought to help level the playing field a little without nerfing the Imperial players. I'm a 4/4/4/0 Ranger. I'm truely hated by Tuskens, Valarians, and several other factions. When I put on Camo, though, I can walk through the middle of Ft. Tusken without being noticed. I've even done Rebel missions, gotten the TEF flag, and walked up to the next Imp Base with Camo on and not been seen by the NPCs. Now, using the same flags that prevent me from being seen by NPCs, how about making Rebels with Camo on "invisible" to Imperial players? By this I mean, Rebels can't be targeted by Imperial players or their pets. Again, I've been there, done that, and don't see why it shouldn't work in SWG. Sure, players will still see players, but they can't be targeted if they're wearing Camo. Ever see the movie 'Sniper' with Tom Beringer? With the Gilley suit on, we're totally invisible even if the enemy is standing on our hand. (Had that happen.) It would help put an end to Overts getting killed while waiting for transports, or just conducting routine business. Since Camo has a time limit built into it, it would work for those Overts that just want to catch the next shuttle in peace. Yeah, it would place more demand for Rangers in a group, but what's wrong with that? Don't most groups heading out for serious fighting look for Commandos to take along? Ok, so this part doesn't really apply to /Declaring, but it is connected to the problem of Overts being targeted as soon as they declare.
