Thread: Declaring overt
Bravo. purchasing a recruiter license from fp is a great idea. as a colonel, i can't do anything more than buy faction perks now. other than having a high capacity for fp, i can't see any other advantage to having such a high rank. devs, please implement this. being able to declare anywhere anytime would create exactly what thunderheart said, mobs of coverts going to point a, declaring and taking on everything. but having a single overt there, and everyone else would have to go overt off him/her, it would make for an interesting time. especially if they had to spend fp to go overt from a PC Recruiter, say 500 at a time, that way you don't have a huge mob that just turns ugly in no time.
one other issue with this...as a rebel, we have no high-powered faction pets like the AT-ST to tank....any possibility to getting something along those lines? maybe some kind of heavy droid?

my bad, it was holocron, not Thunderheart. sorry holo.

Vipers-
Ido agree that people should have to go through some kind of basic training to become a reb/imp. good idea.
However, i seriously disagree with your biased opinion on limiting rebels to 1 faction pet and giving imps 3. this is not only unbalanced, it's plain dumb. in no time you'd see crowds of imps going through anchorhead with 3 stormtroopers each and demolishing every rebel there, holding the town for days and that's not even mentioning having AT-ST's with them. oh, by the way, that's already a huge advantage the imps have over the rebs....so quit complaining that imps don't have the advantage.
as for having to go hunting with rebs to get xp...well, that's your choice. you ain't gotta do that. maybe you should find some better imperial buddies to hunt with.
How about you add a "ready" mode where you cannot be attacked, but you can declare overt whenever you want to. Ready mode should show your faction standing and bring you up as a different color on the radar (orange maybe?) to the opposing faction. This would give you the ability to enter a fight without having to run the gauntlet at the recruiter, but it would also help to avoid ambushes becausean overt targetcould see a potential enemy ambush force coming.
Admittedly it needs some work, but what do you think?
I think the idea that a high ranking player ought to be able to serve as a recruiter is a great idea... But he should not be able to decalre himself. Only others around him once he has declared against a normal NPC. But this is something I DO NOT think imperials should have. We SHOULD Have to go to formal imperial recruiting centers as such. But for rebels..... read below.
I'd like to see for REBELS ONLY, and would greatly add to the idea they are "subverted fighters" for lack of a better term in the GCW.
But provide as a faction pet to rebels "A Rebel Recruiter" that an overt could have that would allow other players to declare themselves. Perhaps not even soo much as a pet, but perhaps a static NPC that could be dropped somewhere or some sort of "rebel base" that could be built. Nothing on par with an HQ something resembled more like a faction mission type HQ, or field base... for overt rebels only.Something temporary (30 minutes) say it costs 300 fp, and is 1 time use. Perhaps even allow it to be a permanent structure like a faction HQ, but scale it WAYYY down.... no terminals, no banks, no services of any kind... just a recruiter with a shoddy camp. It would allow rebels more mobility in they're attacks and set both sides at slightly different odds with each other. Right now there is simply not alot of difference between imps and rebels, except most people are barred from being an imperial. Sure we have darkktroopers and ATST's... but no one uses them in PVP they are worthless in that aspect.
I think more needs to be done along this line of "differentiating the two factions" but please consider my idea as a step in that direction ![]()
I think a /declareovert option would be a great Idea. There are countless times I needed to declare overt and was unable to because the recuriter was camped (Ex.Moeina) ![]()
I think this is an excellent idea. But even better than that I would like to be able to strike first if a nearby faction memeber is attacked in a medical center or cantina. There is nothing more frustrating than enjoying the wine, women and song in my favorite cantina and a declared Imp runs in and kills the overt rebel that is trying to heal up or just have a cold one. I think it would help game play if whenever someone initiates an attack in a medical center or cantina they show up with a TEF to covert members of the opposing faction but cannot attack the covert members until the covertplayer returns fire.
This way attackers will be discouraged from initiating attacks in these places and also the covert players that choose to return fire run the risk of walking into an ambush if overt members of the other faction are waiting outside the cantina for the TEF's to pop up on radar.
Boro_Marl mainly what I was trying to get at, is make teh GCW more like it was in the movies. The Imps had the fire power, the supplies, and the recruits to wage a war against the general public and the rebellion. Mainly I just want different perks for each faction, basiclly the only difference right now is the AT-ST. Basiclly I think Imps should have fire power and man power, where as rebels should have cheaper supplies, and ambushing techniques. And by the way, right now Storm troopers and AT-STs are almost never used in PvP because they suck. I REALLY want faction pets to be supped up on both sides.
The only problem I see with this off the top of my head is this: my base is being attacked by an oposing faction. I stand in front of terminal to cancel self destruct and type in/overt,` 3( or what ever it is)poof base is saved.. I am more than likely dead but hey at least my base is ok.

If you want to increase the roleplay and people involved in the the GCW PVP then reduce the decay rate for dying overt, or reduce it incrementally as a person gains rank in the GCW. This would definitely get me back in PVP, as it stands now it is too expensive (insuring all my precious comp armor)and too damaging to participate.
Agnus
IT would be nice if you could go overt anywhere in a city the that supports that faction
Ya know what would really fix the GCW and Imperial numerical inferiority (opposite from the movies, I might add...):
Fix the Commando FT DOT attack to be subject to resistances.
I guarantee you that if you actually make it subject to the resistance and armor of the ATST (or anything else with HEAT resistance)that it will make an incredible difference in how people play with them, and the frequency at which they do so. Right now, people don't want to bring them out cuz some commando can take it down in 3 shots because of the DOT. That's a LOT of fp to replace, after 3 shots. And it'stotally unrealistic. The equivalent to an ATST in the real world would be the M1 Abrams. Use a flamethrower on one of those and the guys inside will laugh at you.
Improve Faction NPCs
Make Imperial Faction pets (ST's mainly) use weapon specials appropriate to their weapon - mostly carbine attacks). Action Shot, Leg Shot, Fire KD, etc. Make them *dangerous* rather than a joke. Make the Rebel Commandos do the same (I don't know what weapon they use by default).
This not only makes the faction perks tougher, it makes them more realistic.
