This week's Friday Feature discusses the upcoming Revamp of Jedi. Here is the text from today's Friday Feature (since it takes a little bit to appear on the website):
Always in motion is the future: Changes to the Jedi System
I would like to start this post by saying thanks to everyone for the long and heartfelt conversations about this hot topic over the past few months. It is an issue that is very passionate to everyone involved. We have been reading the boards, reading email, listening to people who spoke with us and have had many discussions internally.
It has been agreed that the development team should revamp the Jedi system.
This process is going to take some time, so it will happen in several phases. The first phase is to make some changes (where possible) to alleviate some short term discomfort with gameplay. The second phase will be to rebuild the Jedi system to be quest-oriented; and toinclude the familiar elements of Force Sensitivity, Jedi-oriented quests, as well as many other elements the developers and the community feel should make up the process of becoming a Jedi. (It should also be noted that players who have put in work towards becoming a Jedi will not lose their effort. Some sort of recognition of players' efforts will be included in the new system.)
The first phase is for short term and those changes will appear in Publish 6. They are as follows:
- The permadeath system is being removed and changed to a skill revocation system based on deaths.
- Deaths will decay from the death counter after one week.
- Deaths after a buffer (3 to 5 depending on advancement) will have a skill revocation penalty.
- Skill revocation will be slight at first, but will increase in penalty as the player accumulates more and more non-decayed deaths.
- The skill revocation penalty will increase as a player advances up the skill tree.
- The skill to be revoked will be randomly chosen from the last skill earned in each of the 4 skill branches.
- No more than one skill will be revoked at a time, though players can get to a state where they lose a skill each time they die.
This is all of the information that is available at this time. As additional developments occur, we will post more information.
Feel free to give your constructive feedback on the Publish 6 Jedi changes here. In the next couple weeks, we'll open threads in the In Concept Forum to get your feedback on the future potential changes. May the Force be with you!biwan:
can someone translate this into English? I tried but the forum ate my post after I struggeled to make sense of all this for a while.
Is it talking about changes to the method of opening up the force sensative slot, or is it saying that once youalread playing your force sensative character, the method of aquiring skills to go from inititate to Jedi is changing?

People need to get out of the gutter and realize this is a GAME. When you play it, it should be FUN. To get an idea of what I mean, play KOTOR or some console game and realize what I mean by "play", "fun", and gaming.
Hologrinding is NOT fun. Permadeath is NOT fun. Going out solo and killing 4 million non deathblowing creatures out in the middle of Yavin to become a jedi is NOT fun.
This new revamp looks *fun* again. Fun to aspire to be a jedi (quests, etc). Fun to actually *be* a jedi.
As for you whining bounty hunters: get over yourselves. With these new changes you will get SO many more bounties popping up on the mission terminals because finally jedi will be free from fear of doing anything with their saber in public. And yes, eventually your precious droids will be fixed.
If I may say so ,sir, this wasn't the fix the public was looking for. Jedi should be rare we all agreee to that. A better solution would be that at the end of the month you regain one life you lost and since the number of deaths you get increases as you advance you could only regain up to your limit. If you really feel that removing permadeath will help yet still want to keep jedi population down bounty hunters need the means and ability to eliminate them. That is find them with droids, since the populous help the jedi and not the bounty hunter, and give the bounty hunters a way to kill them that would be for master bounty hunters only, such as a dart glove to fire toxic darts. Jedi, on the other side, need some natural defenses to keep them alive. Some dodge would be logical since they should be able to avoid attacks using the force. The current way that jedi are always needing buffs and wearing armor is so very unjedi-like that it almost sickens me. If you take away permadeath you need someway to keep jedi amounts low. Personally I know from the bounty hunters boards ,as well as other boards I've checked, that alot of players are going to quit or protest in some form because at this current time jedi are getting all the attention and they are a profession that shouldn't be getting priority over all the professions that have been around since launch. Listen to the correspondants because they are in touch and know what the players want and need. We NEED BALANCE, not these "fixes" that actually throw the PvP system even more out of order.

Yeah.
That's how a Jedi talks.
And the idiot Jedi in Tyrena the other night, begging in d00d for 5000 credits to craft a lightsaber...
What a waste.

The fact that there are whiners asking for Unlocking and Playing a Jedi to be "Easier" is proof positive that the Jedi system is working. There should only be a handful of Jedi per server.
Heres why the system as it currently is works. It is time consuming to unlock the Jedi Master, not only is it time consuming but it requires people to change professions which keeps the apprentice system functioning and keeps the item and resources market moving. This keeps Jedi population down. Further more permadeath culls the herd even more. You have people who play Jedi soon as they unlock them, but soon as they are permadead a % will not opt to restart keeping the Jedi population down.
Meanwhile, for the people who do have the determination and skill to be unlock and be a Jedi they are richly rewarded for it because it is UNIQUE, RARE, and POWERFUL. It can't be any of those things if you water it down.
SOE stop meddling with the JEDI and fix the real problems with the game.
Yep. This is exactly what I thought the plan was. I thought it was brilliant to make it so everyone could become what they most wanted to become, but only those with the most skill and and determination who don't mind the constraints of being a Jedi would continue to play them, and everyone else would just log into their jedi every once in a while as a method to pinch themselvesas a reminderthat they did it, and then go back to playing thier main characters again.
What everyone wants, only few would want to play.
Unfortunately, I guess money got in the way.
Playing a Jedi should be a lot more enjoyable than I heard it has been, but is should not be easy at all.
Keeping your character alive two or four days a week isn't exactly a challenge.

Lucas: Have you actually seen my movies or read any of the books by chance?
it is obvious by the sheer volume of discrepancies created by the new films that Lucas himself has not seen his movies.
Haha you made me laugh. I needed that.
