I kinda like this idea and I hope it will not fail where most good ideas fail, the practics.
Some people say, fix what is broken before adding content like this - they're right, but they're also missing a point. This implementation is a fix to something that was broken from day one, something that is very importantant to many players around as well as to the Star Wars expirience it self.
I my self wanted my charakter to become Jedi, and I really disliked to notice that he couldn't, and that the way of achieving a force sensitiv charakter, was everything else than sensitiv. It was dull, it was boring and it ruined the game more than most of the imbalancing. Now its getting fixed and that is good, and I am thankful for it - can't wait to see the result.
It was mentioned before, and I agree with that -the experience and atmosphere would be more personal and much tighter with an instanced village. Also it would keep the village from becomeing an overcrowded metropolis of aspirants an jedi - should not happen, but could and can.

P.S. Jedi don't ruin anything about the game, the wrong people playing them are...

Well here's my 2 cents. Too bad it will never be seen by someone who cares but.........
The village would be good if it's instanced. A small place with NPCs that havetheir own things to say to you. If you choose to become FS only then you leave, with an option of returning if you wish to continue to Jedi.Once you do choose Jedi, you can never return (so Jedi won't be able to hide from bounties).
The village should only be a village, nothing to kill and no quest, just the NPCs that guide you. The quest shall be conducted back on the gaming planets.
To keep down the huge flood of Jedi (which will happen), I say that the mysterious NPC is actually a real player. That player has been told that his final test is to find another (at this time a player name is randomly generated of one who has found their path). This would slow down the flood of Jedi, or make it something a high ranking jedi must do. Like to be considered for counsel or whatever. See how that works? The Jedi can't excel unless he finds so-and-so and so-and-so can't get to the village until a Jedi has become knight. If this is read by somebody at SOE I would like an e-mail sent for your opinion...

While the village and journal sounds good, I'm with RamHorn. Why the Combat Balance still in the planning stages when it sounded like it was a developed concept back in December???

I would like to add something else, please don't have Jedi "handed" to us. I read a lot of these post and some are pretty disturbing. They want everything handed to them. When it's not, they write you guys and whine and then you change it for them. Once you set this in play, you guys will need to stand by it and put your foot down.
Like "can you make it so the mysterious NPC e-mail us"? NO! How lazy is that? But hopefully you know what I'm talking about. I just don't want to see everybody a Jedi, it wouldn't be unique anymore. So make it challenging.
Other concerns that I read were "does my main have to be Jedi, can a second free character open up"? NO! If they don't want their main a Jedi, now would be a good time to start a new character. The MAJORITY of players don't own 5 accounts and 5 computers that they play at the same time, I have one character, if I choose to become Jedi, then, he's a Jedi.
Crafters don't want combat quest. Guess you might have to......gulp.....group.
Finally on a good note, some guy had a great idea with a ticket that's given to you, to gain access to the village, it should be non-dropable, and once you choose to become Jedi after the quest, it disappears. Sorry that I forgot your name man.......

Hear hear... one of the best posts I've seen on this issue.
The whole Jedi system from the beginning was messed up, this is fixing an important part of the game. Although it is admittedly a small proportion of the playerbase at this point, many players want to try playing a Jedi character in this game. The other thing to point out is that without properly functioning Jedi in this game, it really isn't Star Wars...
The whole film saga (as opposed to EU stuff) is at its core about one Jedi's rise to power, fall from grace, and redemption... Like it or not, Star Wars is about Jedi first and foremost. Fixing this is essential.
As much as I want to see the CB/GCW stuff done, until the development team finishes with bringing out JTL, any significant work done in that area would be half-baked as best and likely break things even worse than they are now. We all gotta be patient here...It will all be dealt with in due course.

I like the idea for light jedi to be trained, but as for dark jedi, i think they should be sought out by one of the Emporer's Hands and braught in for training. that would be more accurate to the star wars universe.maybe mara jade could seek out imperials, since she was always atuned to the emporer's will. I would like to see riddles to solve in the quest. But to answer your questions, yes and yes.

I think this is a great idea.
You should add a Icon to the toolbar for the Quest Journal. Have the icon flash, just like the email icon does when there is a development/advancement to the players quest.
While joining a Player Association is not required, I think that some of the "experience" in achieveing FS should include participating in group activities. Perhaps PA leaders can have the ability to designate special events as experience to FS. Maybe have a minimum of 5 players in the group before an event can be counted toward earning the experience. Experience could be awarded on the length of time the group is together, and what the group achieves. Number of kills, number of heals (including dancer heals), number of buffs, number of people fed (why can't chefs feed people, maybe a slower way of healling damage.)

Some interesting ideas. I like the idea from the films of having one master and one apprentice.

Great ideas all. But what about players that go dark jedi... maybe the Jedi would have to protect the secret of the Village by fending off NPC everytime a player goes dark. This might add some drama into the mix.

I like both ideas.Still this stranger thing worries me.Why?Well because if it's a random NPC that tries to talk to you when you come near I will never see his bubble if it's in spatial chat.Because most of the time I'm gouped with my husband and in groupchat I have the spatial filtered so that I don't see all the spam, especially when in Theed or Coronet. So unless said NPC just stands in front of me with a bubble saying Hello, destiny awaits I will see nada.Maybe you can have said NPC send you a tell,an e-mail would definitevily attract my attention.
So well I just hope it won't be another chase trying to find this NPC like figuring out the profession thing. You had to give us holos to put us on the right track because well you saw that we would never have found out by ourselves or if so it would have taken ages.So don't do the same mistake please and just have this NPC send us a mail telling us meet me at so or so area and then we're on our way.The quests are already long themselves(you said 3 to 6 months right?)to keep us busy a while so noneed to slow us down more, but yes I know, the more time we play the more money you get.But if it takes players months to even have a chance to reach the village you will anger many here.Just my opinion,it's worth what it's worth.

I like this idea in theory, except you will undoubtedly get players who become jedi and want it all to themselves, so they will actively stay away from the next person in line, and theorhetically keep them from getting force sensitivity forever. Also, it's not exactly easy to just happen across someone, on the other hand it is easy to send them a message and ask them where they are cause it's their turn to get FS, which really doesn't have the same "feel" of someone just coming up to you when you least suspect it.
If an NPC is used it should definately be one of those special NPC's that people can't kill, this probably goes without saying, but a lot of people just kill anything that is approaching them. While I think that would be funny to have someone accidentally kill the person who is trying to open their FS, I know I have accidentally double clicked on a yellow quest target when I wanted to converse and ended up killing them.
