1st, This is new content. NOTHING IS BEING TAKEN AWAY! NO SKILLS ARE BEING WEAKEND! What kind of definition of nerf are you using?
From what I understand of it, it's not a scan team, it's a droid, that flies by, then radios to hq, and calls the troopers in to kick your butt.
Now, as I understand it, this will add to the Star Wars feel of it, but, your pooch screwin the Covert Rebels. You said, we were never going to be forced to PVP, which was why the Covert/Overt switch went up.
Yes, don't use spices, don't use sliced gear, blah blah blah.
Same should go for the Imps, like it or lump it, this mandate came from the Emperor, you know, that guy that sits in his Star Destroyer, with the cloak, and does the zappy thing with his fingers. So, no one, should be void from being scanned. As a matter of fact, Imperials should be getting hard done by, being respectable citizens and all, they should know better than to carry such items, even if they are for personal use, while off duty. As for punishments, **edit**, if your a respected citizen of the Empire, you'd be getting more than Mr Stormtroopers stun baton stuck somewhere, he'd ram it home.
So, let's think about this, from a distanced perspective.
I'm an Overt Rebel, who sees the Probot coming, so I quickly through all my gear in one of my many droids. I'm scanned, it flys off. Then, overt Imp comes along, blows the **edit** out of me.
Let's see that again?
It blows the **edit** out of me.
Ok, I'm a Covert Rebel this time, sees the Probot coming, and doesn't have enough room in his droids to carry his mass amounts of contraband (twilek pr0n to hand out to the battle wearied Rebels) And, this Rebel has no combative skills, cause he had to drop them to take one for the team. Yeah, he's screwed, hard.
Now, from an RP stand point, I'm sure, the Rebellion knows of this suspected Crackdown, and is indeed, making ways to get around it. Hello! Where are they? Where's the Deadeye serum to help us?! Where's anything!?! Oh, a bunch of smugglers, that'd just as quickly sell us out to the Empire, sure thing. Anytime the Dev's wish to insert a way the Rebellion is going to save our asses, feel free to just slot it in here, somewhere between say: -
-
and here.
The Rebellion, from the movies, may have seemed to be a bunch of smugglers. But, everyone and their dog can make a difference to it. Doctors, Crafters and so on, all are part of the Rebellion.
I'm just waiting to see the Dev's declare that Enhancers are Contraband.
And High Rank imperial officers dont become smugglers, neither are smugglers useles or worthless (god knows I hate those words in forums), they dont smuggle items, they arent searched in the first place, a smuggler might be searched, but the stuff wont get found.
Wenn the MC was searched in "A new hope" Solo could avoid the detection, I dont recall the Emperors shuttle to be scanned for spices ^^
If Imperial Search Parties find contraband on your character and you are...
Imperial, the penalty is:
- Overt Imperial Officers: None. All junior officers will salute their superiors.
- High Rank Covert: High Ranking officers will be acknowledged and saluted as directed by the Emperor.
- Low Rank: (Identified as having little or no Faction Points spent on Rank): Low Ranking officers found in possession of contraband must pay tribute to the Emperor. Low ranking Imperial soldiers will be given the choice of sacrificing Faction Points or paying a fine.
I dont see where is the logic in this !
Let's assume i'm a cop IRL, if i get scanned by others cops and have some illegal stuff on me. Will they just /salute me ?
Doesnt I supposed to get some high penalty of breaking the rules i should make others to follow ???
Is that mean that when i'm a cop, everything i refuse others to do is allowed to me ?
Something is REALLY wrong there.
Mokhet
Glad to see they made changes from the initial way the penalties were supposed to go. it looked very ***-backwards the first time. Now at least it looks to be more apropiate all around. Some fine details remain to be seen though, for those that it would affect. Things like what high/low rank and where's the cut-off line. (I'd guess somewhere in either the high Sergeant or Warrant Officer ranks would be that line, going by how they refer to it and also how many FP's were/were not spent for rank(s). So somewhere around Warrant Officer (and above) probabally would be the High rank/Low rank "line"). Not sure making catina's a "constant" target is going to be good though, but it will have to be seen yet once it's all been running a while. As far as the Covert (Rebel) argument, both sides have a point.A possible way to try to accomodate bothwould be to give Covertssome kind of additional "chance" to avoid actual detection, say 50% or so. How effective it would be (if even possible to be changed again, as it is...) would take time to be seen though, and also depend just how often these scans will happen...
Anyways, I for one am glad they made the alterations as they did according tomost of theresposes that came out initially, and now looks a lot more appropiate than it did before.![]()
* Covert: Covert Rebels will be identified to all surrounding Imperials (Turned Overt)
So in other words, the freedom of choice to PvP only with one's consent is now gone? One of this game's giding philosophies has been flushed down the crapper? And don't give me this "You are covert" crap. I am covert so that I may have the OPTION to PvP -WHEN- -I- -CHOOSE-.
I was looking forward to the crackdown, but not at the expence of my freedom of choice.
After reading these posts, I have rather mixed feelings. In general I love the new crackdown additions. I find them very well thought out, balanced, and if implemented correctly, will add a great deal of suspense to the game. However....
Of the numerous complaints listed in this thread, some have definate value, and should not be discounted. There are a number of core problems with the game implementation that are really at the heart of what complainers are voicing.
1.) This is forced PvE, potentially PVP as well... This is not true. If you do not carry contraband you will never fail a scan....BUT.... Two of the finest protectiveitems offered to players as armor for low encumbrance simply do not work, nor have they since the game launched! I am speaking of the stat shifting on Tantel armor and PSGs. This bug, coupled with the seemingly senslessly crushingweight of Padded and CompositeArmor almost make armor slicing compulsory. If this bug fix and weight balance had been implimented sooner, sliced armor would have been more a luxury for the elite rather than a nessesary component for the every day hunter.
2.) The gross imbalance of PvE mobs to single and small groups ofplayers in many ways have contributed to the proliferation of sliced weaponry to some degree. As has the benefits of spice and doctor buffing. If the game were a bit more balanced in this arena, fewer players would feel the need for sliced weapons, and consider them a luxury item, as indeed they should have been all along.
3.) I do like the idea that these scans may bring an end to, or at least minimize the "buff once wear forever" nonsense that has become standard armor wearing practice since launch. Now the stuff will have to come off eventually, if not immediatly after the buff wears off, then before entering a NPC city. But then again, if the armorsmith's constantwailings had been answered regarding the ridiculous stat shifting bug, players would have viable alternatives to sliced armor.
If these issues were addressed, any inconvenience the crackdown would cause to the casual, non-alligned, non PvPer, could be eliminated. As only we who PvP and build combat templates would feel the need to have the one-upsmanship that slicing offers, while others could make due with functioning, useful, light armor and standard weaponry.
As a side note regarding Spice.... I would love to see an addiction disease added to the game. This disease would flag in if a player partakes of the spice (differing strengths requiring more consumption to call the addict flag) more than a set amount of times during the day. This disease would act, and be curable, just as any other disease, but would cause mind wounds exclusively. If not healed it would wear off eventually, but the damage to the mind would be rather severe.
