Thread: Declaring overt
I like Zosoz's idea about pulling weapons out in city limits. Pull one out, you go overt.
I would support a 5-10sec delay on instantly declaring before you can start to fight. "Hey, that guy just pulled out a flamethrower, get him" This will let you get in on the fighting, without letting you just up and hit someone without warning. It will just mean you need to pay some more attention in town if you are overt. To solve the base infiltration, don't allow someone to go overt, or even assist, in a base that is not on their own side. If they want to be overt, go outside, pull your weapons out, then get in. Or cause ALL persons passing into a base area of influence to go overt....As security should be rather tight around ANY base.

1.A covert can declare at ANYTIME,.....BUT, it takes 20 seconds before you can engage. During that 20 seconds you become "flagged"(or you con red, or you get a flashing TEF,or something), but you cannot engage, and cannot be engaged during that 20 seconds. You arealso given a warning on yourscreen that if you remain "flagged" for longer than 20 seconds then you will bedeclared overt. (As opposed to, or in addition to,being "flagged" a generic "Long live the Alliance!" or "Die you Rebel scum!" broadcast over spatial text could be given.)
2. Upon recloning, you are returned to a Covert status until you decide to declare again.
3. To become a covert, you must:
- a.Converse with a recruiter, or a high ranking officer, and undeclare, then......
- b.Not engage an enemy faction memberfor a period of 2 hours(or something resembling a witness protection program time period),............and then.........
- c. Make your way to an area that has NO enemy contacts on your radar.Bing! Covert again.
4. Undeclared/Covert Medics who heal declared targets, would also get the "flagged" status for 20 seconds, BUT, they wouldNOT actually change to overt unless they decided to declare, and therefore would NOT be engagable, or able to engage any enemies.
Note:There is a Covert by Death exploit in this,.....but it seems reasonable.
Yes!

How about allowing a higher ranking faction member too make some one Overt. Kind of like training. What I mean is, Colonel can make a Private - LT. Colonel Overt. Then you could do away with the group TEF.
Just an idea.
If I were in a PvP battle, and the opposing side won through the use of these techniques, sure, I would be upset, but I would certinly admire theirtactical skill. Itwould be like watching a sporting event where your side lost, but only becasue the other team pulled offsome superior manuvers. Sure, your team loses, but what an awesome game! That's what its all about.
Why do we have a TEF at all? it should be a TOS or temp overt status. Same time line as a tef but you don't have the enemy able to just walk up to you and one shot you, well they still can but you can atleast fight back.
Is there any good reason why there's a TEF instead of a temp overt?
After discussing it with some other players i think it should work like this.
You can become overt whenever you want.. But in doing so.. it sends a /yell stating that your doing it.. then a 5 min timer starts until you become overt. During which your name displays bright orange..
And if the covert scanners dont work or dont exist.. they should.. that would prevent people from sneaking into your base or house.
Also. If a covert player aids an overt player that is fighting another overt player.. The covert aid should gain a TEF on the overts attackers.
So the aid can immediately start fighting the attacker.. Instead of waiting for the the attacker to attack the aid.
I agree that being able to declare 50m away from the recruiter is a good idea. But make it only happen if the recruiter is still alive. Taking out a recuiter is a good tactic. As for going overt at will? Not in a million years. I'd accept a free for all before that. As the devs know there are always ways to help an Overt in trouble if you are covert. You just get the TEF when you do.
A covert in a group with an overt who enters combat can also engage and gets a TEF.
A covert who heals an overt anytime gets a TEF and can enter combat.
Please, stick with the 50m. I hope you aren't even considering this overt-at-wil nonsense.

My opinion, make it so you can declare Overt anywhere, anytime. To become Covert you have to go back to the recruiter and wait an hour. There is no reason that I should have to be within 50m to put on my uniform or flash my military ID and fight for my ideals.
This makes perfect sense to me. You've got a gun; you should be able to use it, anytime, and bear the consequences. Why do you have to talk to a recruiter to become overt?
