Thread: Declaring overt
Oh, and I completely agree with allowing you declare overt anywhere anytime, on the one condition that becoming covert again requires a long period of time.
That seems the best solution IMO. Adds the ambush strategy, while at the same time having the ambushers face some concequences for their actions.

My opinion, make it so you can declare Overt anywhere, anytime. To become Covert you have to go back to the recruiter and wait an hour. There is no reason that I should have to be within 50m to put on my uniform or flash my military ID and fight for my ideals.
That would let you move in armies of safe people to the location of a fight, and have them all go overt at once and ambush...
true, but what if Master Squad Leaders and/or Warrent Officers (player char's) or higher could let someone go covert/overt?
Should flat out be able to go covert/overt anywhere anytime. that way you can sneak in a group.. hide in various places and impliment an attack and surprise the Imp/reb's anywhere.
Basically thats waht gureilla? warfare is about . and that would be thee attack of choice for rebels.
at the same time if im covert in my little imp town and a surprise attack is on from the reb's from above move. i should'nt have to runa total of 500m and go to a recruiter to say oh can i dad huh can i go beat up the reb's for which you originally recruited me to beat up on? huh huh? ...please... i shouldbe able to pull out a weapon and help beat them back down or die trying. then once it is done? go back covert.
This way . as an example of game play the following happens. The rebel's havea plan to take over , say bestine. they a mass 40 covert people in town in various locations. they have a march of say 10 overts heading that way from ah... a spy on the rebel side. runs his rearend off to warn the imp's who are busy making time with the dancers in the cantina... a few go overt to attack the 10 coming in . word spreads quitely. not likelybut im pretending so shut up... thru town. and now you have 40 rebs covert waiting.. say 60 imps covert waiting next to them. 5 overts for the imps. a bunch of snickering Reb's marching over the hill to attack.. a fire fight ensues. as the reb's are going down and imps who were overt some other imps join in .. then the covert rebs go AH HA and now you suddenly have 50 rebs agasint 15 imp's MINUS PETS!... and then there is a bigger fight . the rebs laugh thinking they are about to own this town . when the imps who were covert go AH HAHA !! and now all hellhas broken loose. and u have one mean fight on your hands.
Or they catch the 20 imps in town off guard and beat the snot out of them ..not likely on my server. but hey
could happen.. and that would push people to work in groups more.. less need for pets.. the world is right once again . and i can sleep at nite.
Right now it isTruly a stupid setup the way it stands. can i please go fight mister recruiter?. do you not have one person from the military working in that building? LOL
Is Like being wounded in Iraq and having to run "run mind you"all the way across the middleeast dodging hostiles. thru europe paddling yoru way across the atlanticwashing up somewhere in virginny. then running all the way "in my case" back to detroit to stand in line at the recruiters office . wait for it to open and ask.. can i goback over and fight somemore? then ... head to the airport.. wait on a plane that will be delayed cuz its north west... hop it land in london. cuz u cant fly any closer and running yourbutt offback to the war.
only to find out its been over for the past two years.....
You should be able to declare overt at anytime and then be covert till you're dead.
I mean you're covert and an overt of your faction gets attacked. You should be able to helpout!
This would prevent the problem of having a gang of coverts come in then all simultaneously declare for an ambush.
Whats wrong with that. Guerilla tacticts, they happen in real wars.
Anything that gets rid of TEF is a step forward.
I'm sick of being killed by coverts with unlimited first strike capability due to a TEF.
Thanks for reading.
The whole "go overt anywhere without restrictions" idea doesn't work because then I march my entire covert guild past your defenses and then declare overt, which just is stupid if you're on the other side. "Captain, those are known rebels, can we fire?" "No sergeant, those men have officially stated their desire to fight; by the articles of war we must hold until they find themselves in an advantageous position, and then take it like the imperial soldiers that we are!"
What do I think? I think if you're w/in 50 meteres of an overt officer of greater rank than you should be able to declare overt yourself. That would kind of give meaning to officer ranks, but since the officer himself needs to be overt, it would help with the exploitative side of things.

I was also thinking, you only get so many declarations of overt per hour/day. The whole idea that you are Covert, means that you are covert. I don't see a Covert member helping an Overt member. If a Covert member wishes to help an Overt member, they should be able to /declare overt.
However......I think there should be entirezones that a player cannot be covert, such as around Besbin/Anchorage or around Rebel or Imperial Bases. By entering such zones, one becomes Overt automatically. There should simply be too much security for such places.
However, I do believe there are people that believe in being Covert as an Roleplay pursoses(other than now as I believe the majority of members who are covert are -overt minded people- who just wish to be covert so they don't get gang *bleeped).
So, open up certain professions that would have reasons to be able to Covert in an otherwise Overt restricted zone.
Slightly offtopic, but I'd prefer it if they merely made the cloning station a save point;
You cannot clone or reclonein an opposite factioned city.
You always recieve damage up death, regardless of cloning(as you would now without cloning).
Make the entertainer line on a separate tree of the 250 points (entertainers are becoming a lost breed) and free it up for everyone to enjoy. I don't *think the entertainers will complain? Most of the serious ones seem to RP'ers anyway and I *think they'd enjoy the company.....ie. in reverse, any serious combat player doesn't have any entertainer skills at all, yetneeds an entertainer,however....there are very few around.
Net Result: More serious gameplay in pvp, pve.Make the cantina, med centers or camps, interesting places once again. Free up one of the most fun but underutilizedprofessions in the game for the majority of players.....the entertainer.
I love it! But more soI would love to see a command to allow me to clone as either overt or covert, that way the whole recruiter trip isnt needed, we can get back in the action faster and more seemlessly, and it still prevents clone centercamping! In conjunction with your idea, the overt system might actually be fixed!

I agree that we should be able to go overt using a /declare command at any time. Its more realistic and creates all manner of new tactics considerations and options for both sides, both in conjunction with faction bases AND general GCW related combat. It would be great if when one reb was jumped by a couple imps, if the 3 rebs near by could simply go /overt and give aid to their comrade. Its also easy to see the imps, after seeing the battle had been joined, to call a bunch of friends from the near-by city into the fray. We would have hugefaction battles springing up out of nowhere, simply because two people of opposing factions met up somewhere and started fighting.
Of course, to go back covert, you need to get to a recruiter and wait an hour as usual, and maybe make it like that even if we die and are cloned. If you have to wait an hour for the overt status to go away, no matter what, it makes it a bit less desireable for someone to just use /declare on a whim, because they know there wont be an easy way to go back, even if they die.
