They get to play through the new quest system in Publish 10.
Or quit. Sorry TH, I have to call it like I see it.
This flies in the face of pervious statements about "players will be rewarded for their progress."
Geez.. then quit already.
People, why is it so hard for you to understand that YOU DO NOT BECOME A JEDI UNLESS YOU PURSUE THE QUESTS.
You can be force-sensitive and not be a Jedi. That's all this is about.
This is about the developers taking a step in the RIGHT direction (for once) and realizing that we don't want to play ordinary citizens. We want to play characters that are a little bit larger than life. It's about being able to take your character in a direction that makes for a good story, not this idiotic hologrind nightmare.
"Oh gee, I wanna be a jedi so I am gonna be ...umm... a Master Chef! Yeah, because this holo said so!!"
I quit this game like 3x, mostly because I have close to 200 million credits, nothing to do, and the game literally made me fall asleep.. but if this Jedi publish actually goes through and EVERYONE has some kind of force sensitivity and they can expand on that to their liking, then I am going to be staying for a very long time and playing out a nice and interesting story.
Thunderheart what will happen to the current players who are jedi guardian or 4-4-4-4 in jedi guardian, they spend a ton of time to get there where they are now.
Are there plans to set them back to jedi apprentice? or do they keep to be jedi guardian 4-4-4-4?

... template as much as possible (ie a master artisan/ master armorsmith / master rifleman). I don't want to spoil my whole character concept just to unlock the FSCS. Enough said about that, I'm glad the holo bs goes to the trash can.
Now, about the revamp, I think it's promising, because even casual players as myself have a hope to get a Jedi character one day. And I'll give it a try, only if it means that I can still keep my current character. I don't want to spoil my char template because of a new FS unlocking system, not more than with the holos system.
So, I say to the Devs, go ahead, I'm trusting you'll address all issues as you see fit, and yes, fixing the Jedi system is a great priority for a good number of people. Just keep in mind some people are satisfied with a lot of the game aspects. I am.
Now about the new Jedi system features, I think quests are great, remember that not all people like to seek and destroy. As a casual gamer, I tend to prefer quality content than quantity of mobs to kill.

But I never said I would stick to my current template forever. But for my fun's sake, I wanna have a Jedi character without having to ruin my current character in a way I don't want to. I think that basically all professions are interesting. So I was appealled by BE, CH, TK, etc. Basically everything seems fun but I don't want to master a profession to get the FS slot. I just think it's unfair, uninteresting and it would ruin my fun in the end, like it did for some people.
I like to do things as I want, not as I'm told to. I love this game because I feel free to do what I want, why should I renounce to what makes this game fun for me? For a Jedi character I might get after grinding 5 to 32 professions ? I'm no powergamer, I don't spend my whole life on the server so with only a few hours a week, it would take me like 2 years to grind holos... No way I'm gonna do that. I'm paying the monthly fee for fun, not for grinding stupidly and becoming a bitter person like so many have.
I'm not in a rush to get the FS slot, but I wanna be sure this is something I can achieve with the right amount of effort AND fun.

So the proposed Jedi Revamp seems to be somewhat vague, well I'd like to add my interperation and some thoughts of my own to the mix.
I've never really dug the existing idea. I don't like the idea of Holo grinding in order to acheive some end-goal of becoming Jedi - I prefer to enjoy the game and play, rather than grind. If I was to succumb to the grind, the other thing putting me off was that a new FS character would be needed - so all the time I spent on my primary character would be for nought - another character would benefit.
To introduce a new quest-based system sounds great providing that players who are on the holo grind are suitably re-imbursed (i.e. if someone is 90% there now, they should still be 90% there when the new system comes in). A quest-based system sounds like it will encourage the game to be played rather than ground - and for me personally that can only be a good thing.
I am assuming that you're current character at some point will become Force Sensitive provided you have fulfilled the quest-criteria. I like this idea - after all, was it not Yoda who said that the force binds all living things? If I was to become Jedi I wish it to be with the character a) I earned it with, and b) the character I'm attached to. However, I think that there should also be the option to reject Force Sensitivity on your existing toon and then elect to create a new FS character. One FS character per account. So if my character, Ymobacca, unlocks Force Sensitivity I should then have the option to pursueJedi with Ymobacca, or with a brand new character - not both. This will help keep the Jedi level to a minimum.
Once a character is classed as Force Sensitive, this does not mean they are Jedi - it should simply mean that they may choose to embark on Jedi training. I may choose to be Force Sensitive but never take advantage of that or realise its potential.
Once a player embarks on Jedi training all previous skills (if an existing character) should be lost - after all the Jedi code states that Jedi have no posessions, wear simple clothes, etc (as in the EU). Whilst this seems harsh, it would mean a sacrifice of sorts in order to become Jedi. Make the path from Padawan to Master really mean something - not just 'another profession'.
Upon reaching a certain level of Jedi skill (say Jedi Knight), players should have the option of either having other non-Jedi skills, or carrying on to Jedi Master. The benefit of the first is that we could have such things as Jedi Healers (in the EU it mentions that some Jedi were better at such things as medicine, negotiation and what not rather than combat). We could have Jedi CHs that have a more natural affinity with their pets, Dark Jedi TKA's and so on. However, if a Jedi is to pursue Master then the sacrifices must continue (again this would help control the population of Jedi). Jedi Masters would in effect be the top of the food chain - but they will have had it very hard in order to get there! Jedi Master should represent the pinnacle of character development and only acheivable by those willing to put in the effort and sacrifice. In other words, introduce the concept of dedication and sacrifice. I mean, let's face it - you can probably grind about 60% of the professions out there when AFK - is this something to be rewarded?
For me, under the current system I have no interest in becoming Jedi - I don't want to lose my existing character nor grind away so I suppose in one way it does the job of controlling Jedi population. With some of my ideas I may be more intrerested but still not take the path of the Jedi knowing how much I'd have to sacrifice.
I dunno, I have a feeling some people will not like my ideas and flame me to death (good job I have a Master Doc with me!), but all I was wanting to do was suggest some ideas.

Ymobacca,
Your ideas of having jedi be more than a PvP tank are great. I just wish those stuck in a first-person shooter mentality wake up to the rest of the gaming world and realize that there can be more to ANY profession than just combat.
Non-combat classes or professions can be a lot of fun to play. Given that jedi are supposed to work for peace (note I did NOT say fight), giving jedi in SWG the opportunity to work for peace and justice without being totally focused on combat would be great.
That being said, the devs and a very vocal minority (PvPers) seem to be bent on giving us a simply more tough, efficient PvP tank, as if BH and Commando and CM/Rifleman are not enough. Doing 1000s of points of damage in Mind damage in one CM attack and then hitting Mind with rifle isn't enough I guess. Maybe in Jedi revamp 22 in 2008, some non combat related skills will be included.
Its simple to me..
As of the new jedi publish if you havent opened your 2nd slot for jedi you wont ever have that slot.
Basically thats the reward for those that have completed the old system they get to have 2 characters all those who has not wont get a second slot.
