Thread: The Path of the Jedi: Reckoning of Effort
First, let me say, I know there are many burning questions in the community and Im feverishly working on them all. My absence was due to a long campingweekend. We got rained out so bad it was like camping in a Dantooine downpour and I caught a nasty chest cold. The summit followed up and now Im catching up. Expect information to cover the credit issue, publish feedback threads then a holobits about the summit and then Im heading back into my hut to polish up the Combat Balance docs. For those who were eager to see those as a Friday Feature, they probably will be, but we made some changes based on board feedback and had to delay the post a bit...
On to some questions...

TH, is there any way we can tell what "village access" group we are in?
There isn't a hard and fast rule, but there is a solid correlation based on how many professions you completed compared with how many holo-professions you unlocked. For instance, if you finished 31 professions, there is a extremely strong likelihood you'll get 5 branches unlocked. If you finished 29 or 30 professions, you most likely will get 4 branches and so on. Beyond that there is no hard and fast way to tell. Though like I said, there is almost a direct corrolation between how many total professions (32)were completed and how many holo-professions were completed.

So, massive hologrinders first... that's fair. But are we talking "wait until Phase 2 of the village before Group 1 gets the visit", or "wait until traffic dies down, and Phase 1 of the village is still active, and Group 1 gets the visit"?
Both actually. The rate at which it will occur will be based on the final numbers of how many people muscled their way through professions from Publish 9 to Publish 10. We'll be monitoring it on a daily basis - - the reason being we want to make sure that everyone has a good time and isn't overcrowded. Once we get through this bigcrowd of people, the natural pace of village access wont need this type of virtual valve.

TH if i automaticly qualify - where is my Old Man?
Just go about your business and he will visit you in a day or so ![]()
It will happen outside of a city and in 1-3 days

Since there is a large wave of players that will be going through the system, we are going to be monitoring traffic daily as players start and finish the Force Sensitive quests. When enough people have completed their path, we will open it up the village to the next group. Groups 1 – 4 will qualify for a visit when the village traffic has died down. Of course, if you qualify for the visit under the new system, you will automatically be granted a visit from the old man.
Read that again. Then again. After that, once more.
What this means:
The traffic is measured DAILY. This means that you will have to wait a week (at most) if you are in the latter groups. The quests will be completed by most people in a few days. You're not going to have to wait as group 1 goes through the ENTIRE village in all four phases, you're going to wait as people finish the quests for the current particular Village phase. If you can't wait 4 days to go to the village, than go ahead and quit. Go ahead and try to find another MMO game that "listens to it's customers" by allowing them to become all powerful immediately.
Sheesh.
People need to calm down over this. Everyone is crying about how they can't make Jedi today. You know what? Too bad. You think you deserve it because you're paying $15 a month? Well, I pay the same amount and i'm a mid-range Pistoleer. I'm not crying that I haven't gotten 4/4/4/4 in that or in Medic (yet). It's part of the game. But all the wannabe jedis here (not the people playing mind you, i know that you are not the majority of future jedi players) are whining because they can't become the uber jedi in days. Instead they're going to have to work for it. You'll have to play the game as intended. Mastering your class should take time. It shouldn't be obtainable in days, or hours. If you had to take a month in order to get jedi, should you be upset? No, you should be able to say in the future "yeah, I got jedi through hard work and determination". Just like any class should be able to say the same.
The way the game works now is broken. If you want to see what SWG should be, try getting a group of unbuffed people and doing missions. Watch the medic frantically run back and forth while healing, as TKNs attack in the front lines and ranged classes sit back and support. It's fun, believe me. But instead of that, we have 2600 buffs, people tumbling in the med center (which i refuse to use, even though i'm going for CM), and the powerlevel grind. Now we have jedi who are going to have to wait a few days before they can start the village who are already upset that they aren't getting credit for randomly grinding professions. And of course, people are already saying the threat they use most often on these boards: "that's it, i'm cancelling my account!!!1!"
Look, I know some of you did the grind in order to better yourselves for this. I can't say i understand why you did. Content like this doesn't come every day. The village looks to be one of the cooler pieces in the game, and you all want to skip it?

I could care less if I was gated for a week before I could even try. What really irks me is that if they would have told us this yesterday I would have gone to work instead of taking a vacation day. I had two really contrasting expieriences in the game today. First, I was elated when i did /check and found that all my hard work paid off and I should soon be getting a visit from the old man. Then I was totally disgusted when the revelation was made that we probably wouldnt be seeing the old man for days, if we were lucky. This information given only 24 hours earlier would not have had the same effect on the community. I dont want to skip it, I want to be able to get in and enjoy it!
Bad Game Devs, bad business decision SOE, I warned you static timed gating would be unacceptable after over a year of play, but you've still got a distinct hearing problem it appears.
