Thread: IC4: Path of the Jedi
Well, lessee. . .
You could have the holocrons give hints as to what professions you need to. . . oh waitaminute, nevermind.
Just kidding. . . I'm glad its being changed.
Ohhhkay... Having read nearly 90 percent of this thread and given the ideas supplied here a lot of thought, I have decided that it's important that I say something in regard to this thread.
Quests / Missions:
First of all, static spawned mission/quest givers? No, no, no, and NO. Why not? It leaves those seeking their FS slot very volnerable to griefers. Secondly, do you think every Jedi in the Jedi Academy back in the glory days of the Old Republic had to do every step of their training the same as every other Jedi? Heck no!! Training is tailored to each individual based on their level of force sensativity and their mastery of utilizing the force. Think about what time frame we're in here, folks... the Jedi have been all buteradicated by Vader and those who survived (Yoda, Obi-Wan are the only ones discussed in the Movies, but I am sure there had to be more) went into hiding to survive and continue to seek out Force Sensatives and secretly train them. Until Luke founds the new Jedi Academy on Yavin IV after the fall of the Emporer, there is NO place for a Jedi to be trained and it should be very difficult for a Padawan or Force Sensative to find his or her master initially.
The idea posted that the Trainers should spawn as a random event hit the nail on the head. If you've worked for FS, your character should be internally tagged as "possible force sensative" thus a bunch of random things should be happening to you - things that should not only determine your worthiness of becomming a Jedi but also determine whether you are a light sider or a dark sider. Someone mentioned the "Save the girl" dynamic spawn - the missions I'm talking about should be a lot like that. They should happen to you randomly so there's no way of anyone tracking and posting "This is exactly what you need to do to become a jedi" - again this is going back to the individuality of Jedi Training. If you're a Star Wars buff, you'll know that Qui-Gon Jinn's, Obi-Wan's, Anakin's andLuke's training were all very drastically differentbecause A.) They were different people B.) They were trained by different masters - or if they were trained bythe same master, it was during an either early, unexperienced period of his Jedi Career or his later, more seasoned Jedi Master career - C.) The time that they were trained in was radically different - Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan didn't have to hide out on some swampy planet because a Dark Lord of the Sith was looking to wipe out the last remnant of the Jedi, they had time to embrace every aspect of their training as where Luke (our current time period) had to learn as much as he couldwithout being caught or tracked down and killed!
While you're still working on FS, your Master should send you messages or in game emails (generated by the system) when its time for you to meet up with him for more guidance. Or better yet - he sends a messanger (as a test) to you and how you react or interact with that messanger (whether you talk to him and take the encoded disk your master sends to you or outright kill him) determines whether or not you're ready for more training and or another quest.
Training and how it should be due to our Current Time Frame
Okay, I've established that there aren't many Jedi during this timeperiod and that finding a JediMaster to teach and guide you should be extremely difficult. So you've looked long and hard at those wanderers and found one dressed in Jedi Robes and he's offered to guide you on the path to Jedi. Good for you! Way to go! Now he's going to tell you he's going to be in touch because if he stays in one place too long, the Emporer may find him and kill him because the Emporer, like your new master, can "See" through the force to find other Force users. Jedi during this time period have to constantly be on their toes or hide in places that the Emporer would never think of looking (Thank goodness for Tatooine!). The other thing you should have to contend with is a random chance that Vader, the Emporer's force sensative aids, or the Emporer himself sense you using the force during your training. Canthey do that? Heck yeah! And if you screw up and use the force too much they could send some dark side Force sensatives down tokill you or snatch you up and bring you to them (and try to turn you to the dark side). You should also have the opportunity - say a bluff check or a battle option - to avoid this happening to you.
Light side and Dark side points
While you're questing to become a Force Sensative everything you do, every action or inaction you decide upon should decide whether or not you're a Darksider or a Lightsider - it should have very little to do with what faction your character currently holds. During your "trial" to become a Force sensative, there should be an internal calculator on your character tabulating how many darkside and lightside points you have accumulated during your progression to Force Sensative so that once you do unlock it your Force Sensative character is already set on his path. Additionally, once you gain that force sensative slot, you should have a counter on your character that continues to track your Darkside and Lightside points so that, at any time, you could fall to the darkside or redeem yourself (through an act of heroism or self sacrifice) and change sides if you so choose.
Professions and Jedi
Okay anyone remember Luke Skywalker standing in a Cantina for days on end dancing to achieve force Sensative? Or Vader persuing Chef to become a Dark Sith Lord? Better yet, can you imagine if the Emporer had been an image designer so he could become force sensative? "Excellent, your hair looks magnificent, now strike me down with all your hairspray and hatred!" Professions should have very little to do with you becomming force sensative. Period. It should be how you behave and how you interact with your environment that determines you getting FS.

I just want to say that for some, the Email idea is horrible, as many players (like myself) do not have access to an easily readable email account. It may sound weird, but it does happen.
first... keep holos you ALWAYS HAVE 4 PROFESSIONS and 5th "silent" make it say a name
second... WHEN you get your silent holo name you must find him then..talk to this white named npc a commonor etche gives you a mission "example mission like kill this untrained wielder on dantooine or this nightsister on dath etc" (it says on missions details of you can or cant have a group)then ether you get another mission or a name this could be over 1000 names or 50 all random gettind more harder and harder and you never know 1 could be solo a jedi knight......(with a somewhat reasonable ham not 400k and not insaine damage cause umm 2k reg attack is alil stong and i was hit for 22000 (armor stoped 11000)i would say no...maybe stats like a ns protector etc...
and as for the poeple that have mastered alot... here is the reward (ive posted this elsewhere) you get more skill pts more then the 250 max...1 pts for starter 3 forelite and 5 for hybrid then bh would get 7 commando get 6 pistoleers get 3 doctors get 4....cause if then mbh can accually get medic if they want to get say snipe skill in rifle or trickshot in pistoleer
Not sure about quests to become Force Sensitive, but as for quests while one is a Jedi...
There should be quests where combat isn't the only answer..nor the preferred one. I keep thinking back to Episode I, when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon went to those talks. They ended up using their sabers, but not initially. I always try to compare Jedi Knights (and all the ranks above and below) to medieval knights.
Have missions that require planetwide and interplanetary travel, that puts the jedi in the middle of a dispute between rival parties (families, governments, factions) that could end with alot of destruction and death if not solved. If solved, the Jedi should get a decent experience reward as well as light side points (depending on which way they chose to solve it).
There should be missions for groups of jedi also. That only appear when similarly aligned jedi are in a group. Maybe the Rebellion or the Empire need a large enemy garrison destroyed, these jedi would need to find a way to do so. Just brainstorming here, but there could be many ways. They could convince the enemy to leave (somehow), force them to leave, or just kill them all off . Or they could use the local wildlife to harrass /swarm the garrison. Not sure if there's a force power that allows this currnetly, but with a group of Jedi, who knows.
There needs to be exploration missons. Simple but still useful. A jedi initiate goes missing. Your trainer/master doesn't want to risk sending another student (you), but needs to. You go investigate, find the jedi's body/journal and/or what killed him/her. Can dispatch the enemy/monster or just report what happened.
There should alwo be tiered quests. A person's main quest giver should be their trainer, but that trainer should also give occassional quests that deal with helping another Master in a predicament somewhere. They'd need to go to the planet, then sense the trainer, then do the mission(s) that trainer gives, which would be the misson that the jedi's oriiginal trainer gave.
All imporant actions/deeds of a jedi should add dark/light points.
Make the quests hard, but don't make them campable. Don't make a cave that spawns an enemy that you need to loot a rare item from... everyone will camp it like holocrons.
Rare looted items are good, but only if the enemy is moderately easy to find, like Krayts. Krayt pearl loots are perfect.
