what you should do is... keep the current system of holo grinding but, make a new role-playing quest based system so everyone is happy. so either they could use a holo to tell them what prof to master, or they could go to a certain NPC and try their luck with their quests. regardless, holocrons shouldnt be made obsolete you could even make them tell you different things like what npc to go to, or if an npc gave to a quest to do something, a holo could give you a tip on how to do it

The quests should be long(about a month or two), but must remain fun, and the best way to do this is to make sure that they are varied.

For example, make sure the missions are not ones you can get from normal mission terminals. Doing interactive dungeons like the Warren will be a nice addition to the Jedi Quests.

My 2 cents.

Definatly remove the "You have to master this profession" angle. My Xmas Holocron Gave me MAster Image Designer. A Profession which I have no intrest in and dont intend to do. Despite the fact that everyone says "You can grind that in 3 hours" I refuse. I wont grind a profession just to get my FCS, I want to PLAY the game, not grind it.

What I want to see though, is the fact that you open up a Force Sensitve Slot. Its not a Jedi slot. It's Force Sensitve. What this should do is open up new professions, such as Force Healing, Force Surveying etc, where people can prodcue more rounded characters backed up by force skills. The EU has already prooven that there were a number of Force Sensitives around... maybe the Jedi had been slaugtered but the Force still existed.

Once someone has a certain XP in using the force, then they can go for Jedi. Maybe using the soon to be defunct Holocrons to give them specific missions to do or goals to attain. So that they can actually attempt "The Trials" as spoken of by Obi-Wan and Anakin. FI you haev to use professions say that you need to master 3, 4 or 5 Professions "of your choice" to open the path to the force.

The way of unlocking the slot needs to be more related to playing the game. Gaining a number of badges, completing a number of NPC missions + special"Force" missions to move along the path to Force Awareness. I like the Mdicholian idea someone came up with above, that way you can see what how much progres youve made... and as you get closer and the number of ways of increasing your "Force" awareness drop, it will prompt people to poke into all those little areas.People should be rewarded for playing the game... not just sitting there AFK.

(By the way... cant we make it so that nothing works while you AFK.... that will cause huge flames but it will stop AFK players Hologrinding. If your playing the game your at the keyboard. If your AFK, your not playing, so you shouldent be doing anything. Stop people gaining "free" XP.)

Please make the quests with graphic immersion in mind. I mean this with kindness. SWG is completely missing graphic immersion for most quests and missions. This is very evident through out the game. Perhaps a valley of theedi should be applied.

I dont know if this is a good Idea or not, but for Jedi's to be able to complete destroy missions that are difficult, they should be able to tell whoelseis a Jedi. Then they would have to group with those other Jedi's to complete a destroy mission.

To all the people (or person at least) who thinks they should delete all the jedi and have those people start at the last quest of the FS path GO **edit** YOURSELF! You say that its only powergamers and cheaters who unlocked their slots while the people who have been grinding are going to be crushed. Why is it that if someone plays more than you or has better methods of gaining xp (without cheating) or is more dedicated to the chase that you think they don't deserve it?

Anyways, back to the topic at hand - keep the actual jedi leveling the same as it is (killing creatures for xp just like every other profession) but add in quests for loot, schematics (hooded cloak please ), and a certain amount of jedi xp per quest completed (just like you get fp in themeparks) but on a much grander scale (50 jedi xp is a joke ).

I agree with what most people on here have said about the path to UNLOCK your slot, that the quest should all be random (10-20 pools of 10-20 quests to choose from) but it should also be more difficult then say the krayt skull quest which can be completed in 40 minutes. Each of these quests should take minimum 3-7 days to complete so as to keep the number of people just running around doing every quest they can to a minimum.

A few thoughts:

1) Make it well-defined rather than ambiguous; the current system is ambiguous in that you have to try mastering a ton of professions before you hit that "lucky" one. The new system should have something well-defined beforehandthat you must accomplish but once you do it, you are guaranteed to advance, and this accomplishment shouldn't be based on something random like a Hermit quest spawn or rare resource spawn that one may have to sit around waiting for weeks to find. A large reason people are so beleaguered with getting that FSCS is because they can try for so long and get nothing, while the lucky person next to them masters just six professions and gets the FSCS. The randomness is annoying.

2) The quests should have a number of things to do, but each one able to be done by one person (killing a krayt is for all practical purposes not one of those things). Rather than have a few really hard and frustrating tasks, have a lot of things that take some time and commitment. Make it so that each step doesn't take ten tries to accomplish or players will get very frustrated; have each stage pretty easily done but have a lot of them. Oh, and make them varied please.

3)No playershould be required tocombat any other player for these quests.

4) Don't make a mission's success based on looting an item that only drops sometimes off certain enemies. That's another random thing that will not only frustrate players but encourage camping.

5) Some steps on the quest should be able to be accomplished without becoming vulnerable to enemy players.

6) While it makes sense that Light Jedi align with the Rebels, it doesn't that Dark Jedi become Imperial. I think they should be allowed to be neutral if they want. Think about it, during the Sith Era, a lot of them fought each other rather than cooperating; it just doesn't make sense that Vader and the Emperor would want a lot of Dark Jedi in the Empire because they might be too much of a threat. Maybe allow Light Jedi to be neutral if they choose, also.

7) Light Jedi shouldn't get to use Force Lightning, a clearly Dark Side power. Why not give them Force Protectionand Force Absorb instead, a la Jedi Knight for PC? (But unlike Jedi Knight, make Force Protection actually protect against thrown objects.)

8) The NPC that gives these missions could be different for every player (and different for every quest mission). How about disguise some normal profession trainer as a Jedi-quest giver? Player A might have to visit the Marksman trainer, but player B might be sent to the Image Designer trainer. That way, Jedi-killers won't be able to camp the trainers...not that they should be able to attack a player who's just received a mission anyway. Oh and make sure that players can get their Jedi quest missions from a trainer on a base planet, so that a Chef/Entertainer/Medic doesn't have to go to Dathomir...I guess there aren't really that many trainers on Dathomir anyway...I'm just saying that while the mission may be dangerous, getting the assignment shouldn't be.

nething to change getting fs. earning master professions may be easy for some while can be extremely difficult and frustrating to others. a themepark would be helpful. maybe those who are already jedi can help in fs quests. i dont know. i just dont like profession mastery. all you do is master a profession. i think more detailed requirements are better and fun. Also, in this new or alternative fs quest, holocrons should reveal enough info to help get on the right track but not lead u from start to finish. Like maybe give u a location of a npc that gives out a quest but the cron wouldnt reveal a exact location. or a riddle that u have to solve. i dunno. just nething to change tthe fs quest or give an alternative quest.

I think what: people want inopening their Force Slot can be summed up as follows:

1) It should be a challenge. And by that not a mind boggling grind, or a boring wait, or something they have to depend on luck for, but a challenge. Something they can feel proud of.

2) It should take awhile. I would hope that it could be inserted in such a way that they "do it" as they play the game nornally. People shouldent be able to sit and play solidly for 3 days and open the slot.

3) After the horrors of hologrind, I think people want some way of seeing that they are progressing, BUT with an element of mystery thrown in. I would'nt want a "How to become a Jedi" Guide appearing on a website a few days after the patch.

4) They want new, inventive content, specific to them trying to open the FSC.... so that they have something to aim for while theya re aiming for the FSC.

5) It should be open to ALL professions. A Tailor should be able to open the slot as easily as a Bounty Hunter or a TKA. (That, is going to be the REALLY hard one).

How about the Holocrons giving you long term goals? Rather than just "learn this profession" it could be "Acheive peace (+5000 Faction Points) with with 4 different factions" or "Aid 10 people on Tattooine" (Do the NPC missions for 10 people on Tat)These are only examples, and I cant think of anymore... guess thats why you are the Game Designers!!

Here's what I think the whole Jedi system needs:

Becoming Force Sensitive

I don't think making people master professionsas the only way to get the Force Sensitive Slot is a good idea to allow people to become Force Sensitive, so here's a list of what I think each player should accomplish.

  1. The number of badges a person has needs to be taken into account. The people with all the Exploration badges, Story Arc badges, Profession badges, and Theme Park badges, have experienced moreof SWG than most players in the game. People like this have seen and done it all, and have experienced everything you've developed. These people have truely played the game for the love of it, and not because they have to. I think if a person has 50 or more badges, then that should be equivelant to what is now one holocron profession.

  2. An intricate quest system that takes a little over a week to complete, if you play about 5 hours every night. There should be NPC's stationed throughout the Galaxy who tell the story of the Jedi, and how Darth Vader has systematically hunted them down. Not only should they tell this story, but they should tell the story of the Old Republic, and about the old Jedi Order. Once you a person is done with the quest, they will know the full history of the Jedi.

  3. The mastering of 5 or more elite professions will result in one step of the Force Sensitive quest. All of these professions will become known through another set of quests. Only one profession is told by the Jedi NPC upon completion of this segment of the profession quest. An example of how this could be is, "Jedi Master So'and'so used to be a Doctor before the Jedi Order discovered the Force was strong in him. Come back and speak to me when you have discovered why he became a Doctor." Once a person has mastered Doctor, they set out on another quest that lets them use the skill they mastered. After the new Master Doctor has done all he needs to do in order to discover why Jedi Master So'and'so was a Doctor, he will go back to the Jedi NPC to recieve another profession quest.

  4. After completion of all the quests, a person would become Force Sensitive. Nothing needs to be hidden.

Becoming Jedi Master After Force Sensitivity

I do not have any experience in being a Jedi, but I have noticed that a quest system for getting all the Lightsaber components needs to be in place. Another set of quests given by Jedi NPC's needs to be in place in order to get these components. Something similar to my quest ideas above.

Conclusion

I've been playing this game since the beginning, and have never been into having to master a profession I wasn't interested in, in order to become something I've always wanted to be in SWG. If I were to embark on the Holocron grind, I would find myself in a rut, and would lose interest. Your most loyal and devoted players needs to be rewarded, and I think something what I have typed out would be a great solution. Please read this in its entirety. I put alot of thought into it.

What I would like to see would be later missions where you meet people like Luke or Obi-Wan's blue glowy, or maybe even yoda. That way you would have a more star warsy and would allow a jedi mentor kinda feel wich would be awsome.

All I know I better open my slot before these changes are placed. I have worked my ass off and am now on my 17th profession. And if you are now going to change the system in a way that I will have to spend several more months working on it, I will leave the game. I have been around since day 1 and yet have not been lucky enough to have opened my slot yet. But people that clearly do not deserve having a Jedi have one.

I will sit back and wait to see what your plan is, I am sure I am not the only one in the boat that has been working on opening there slot and will see all our work goto waste or be slowed down from opening our slots for several more months.
