Thread: Jedi Punchlist Feedback

The whole Jedi Profession should be scrapped:

1) Jedi are not supposed to exist in the current Star Wars time period in SWG. It seems odd to see Jedi running around, in the open, when there are not even supposed to be any (Whose left to train them???). What would make more sense, and possibly be more interesting, is it not to have any player Jedi and instead allow players to be "force sensitive" and gain limited force skills via quests or other means.

2) Someone said that the Jedi are tough. They are down right invincible or at least pretty close to it. That part is what I would expect but the game balance is only going to get worse.

3) What Jedi are left should be NPCs for quests and etc.

For the current player Jedi why not have Darth Vader hunt them down and then compensate the players somehow for suffering through that profession grind.

Comments, flames and etc?

>> Even though Jedi arnt suposeto exist right now doesn't mean they can't. First of all all the jedi that died may have kids that means they are most likely FS. If they are >> Luke sure would sense it and would find them and train them. So you see the jedi that are in SWG have a good plot to get here if you think really hard.

My position from a previous post in this thread is: "The Jedi should be removed from SWG."

According to the Lucas version of Star Wars, at least up until Luke and Anakin, Jedi's were not supposed to get marrried (and I assume have children). So it's unlikely that there are many force sensitive Jedi offspring running around. But for discussion's sake let's assume that there are lots of force sensitive folks in SWG.

I believe the current time period in SWG is sometime between "A New Hope" and "The Empire Strikes Back." Luke is not a Jedi and thus is unlikely to be able to train anyone to be a Jedi. He might though be able to train force sensitive people a few tricks as might a few other NPC Jedi.

It simple does not "feel right" to havethe number ofJedi running around, in the open, that are in SWG (I saw at least 5-7 in the span of 30 minuntes on Bria and that was only in one city.).This takes something from the game instead of adding to it. It simply detracts from the Star Wars world as Lucas created it. If SWG took place before "A New Hope" or after "Return of the Jedi" it would be much more believable to see Jedi running around.

It would be much more interesting (and probably easier to maintain some sort of PvP/PvE balance)and true to the current Star Wars timeline/story not to have a Jedi player class in SWG but, instead, allow players to earn (somehow) limited force skills that they could use.

I'm going to be straight up with all ofyou right now, Ihaven't read the past 13 pages of stuff on suggestions and/or comments and whatnot, so if this has already been posted please let me know.

During the Jedi Quests, I would like to see the use of the Ysalimari (I don't know if that is spelled right....). For those of you who don't know, the Ysalimari was a creature introduced into the Star Wars Expanded Universe by author Timothy Zahn in one of his novels. Basically its single importance is that the Ysalimari projects an anti-force field in which force powers are negated.

I'd like to see something like this used in the Trials and/or Questsbecause I think it is important that Jedi use not only Force powers but physical powers, as well. If given the opportunity, many players would never train things like that, this kind of forces them to do so.... I don't know, maybe it's more for immersion than anything else, but I think it'd make things interesting, especially if you could get a hold ofone for use in duels and whatnot.

Anyway, something to chew on... Let me know what you think.

I have to disagree with you Frajhav, most of the people i've talked said they didn't want to be a jedi. The ones that did, wanted jedi from the beginning. Trying to throw out jedi, is taking the life of the game. The story of Star Wars is mostly about jedi. If you take out jedi it will no longer be Star Wars, it'll just be another MMORPG. The uniqueness of the game is what sets it apart for the others. So let the game stand out. I don't think that there was many people that looked at the title, "Star Wars Galaxies", and didn't think that there would be any jedi playing, or that they would get a chance to become a jedi. Onmany of the video games playersbecame or started out as jedi so you should expect people to want to play because of jedi. With this, jedi should have their chance and hope to get my chance to become a jedi.

I think Frajhav has a point. In SWG's current state the Jedi are really wreaking havok on gameplay. I think few people would dispute that for several reasons (some already mentioned in this thread):

1) It takes 3-7 good (mastered some fighting profession with some PvP experience) PvP players to take out one Jedi. This is definately a disturbingbalance issue. For people who prefer PvP I am certain it is quite distressing. And whats happens when we start seeing more Master Jedi? As it stands now they will most certainly be nearly invincible.

2) From the story line Jedi are not supposed to exist or at least be in hiding. In only one town (on Bria) I can run by 3-15 Jedi in the span of 30 minutes, lightsabers out, and titles prominently displayed. Don't you think Lord Vader and the Empire would be all over them? Or the Bounty Hunters? For people who like to stick to Lucas's version of the story I am sure this makes the game less appealing.

3) If SWG got rid of the player Jedi (a few quest like NPC Jedi would be more interesting) I don't think we would see a mass exodus of players. If what SOE tells us is true there should be a relatively small population of Jedi (which I somehow doubt though). Therefor only a few might leave. I am sure that would be offset as new features are added.

4) Throwing out player Jedi would definately not take the life out of the game. It may add to it in fact and open up other avenues that more people could particpate in. For example, only a small set of the population are supposed to be Jedi, so that profession is self limiting to the SWG population. If the player Jedi were removed something like force sensitive skills could be gained by players via quests or great deeds or etc. They wouldn't be Jedi but they would have some limited force skills under there belt. More people (even thecasual players) could participate in this, thus increasing interest. Secondly, like many people have said in the past the Jedi don't belong in the current SWG timeline. But yes I believe Jedi are an integral part of Star Wars, though they shouldn't be running around in the openduring the current SWG time period.

Fej

I AM POSITIVELY SICK OF YOUR ATTITUDE TOWARDS GIVING US SOMETHING THAT WE DESERVE

JEDI SHOULD BE THE MOST FEARED CLASS IN THE GAME. NOT SOME CLASS WHERE AN ELITE MELEE CLASS CAN KILL THEM

A MELEE CLASS COULDNT GET WITHIN ARMS REACH OF A JEDI WITH A SABER WITHOUT BEING CHOPPED UP.

This is the mentality of those who are jedi?

Are my friends and I to play second fiddle to this?!?

Please, for the sake of the rest of us, make a non-jedi server and let us transfer one of our characters to it, or delete the Jedi class altogeather. I want nothing to do with them ever again.

I think Kelkyen has an interesting idea.

As a litmus test make a duplicate Non-Jedi versionof one of the larger populated servers (like Bria) and allow players to move there main character over to that server. If much more activity is seen on the Non-Jedi server versus the Jedi filled server it would be a good inidication that the general population does not want player Jedi.

Neat idea. Thanks Kelkyen,

Developers, here our plea...

Keep in mind: Jedi are just gamers with more time on their hands... and the numbers are growing. They do not pay more than other more casual gamers, or dedicated non-jedi players, ... they are not better.

It is obvious by now to all SWG players that Jedi mean more than anything to the you(the developers). You listen to their every problem and fix it almost imediately, while you still have not tended to the problems of other professions that date as far back asto December. You have made jedi gods... increasing their already impeccable accuracy, giving them their own personal damage type (that is difficult at best for others to even partially defend against... if at all)... taking away all motivation for Bounty Hunters, the only class that was meant to keep Jedi in check, to hunt Jedi... they even are now a part of the galactic war (which would be find if they were actually threatened by stromtroopers or AT-STs)... making them move faster on vehicles (Force Power Steering lol? .. what was that about)...

I could go on forever, my point is that when the jedi have a scratch, you (the developers) come running with a box of tissues...while all the other professions have already had to have body parts amputated from blood loss.

Do whatever you think is best.... Bring back permadeath, make anyone able to kill them when they are seen using their powers, make them a normal (not overpowered) profession that anyone can become (because God knows that there is no point trying to preserve the "storyline" which has already been butchered by all the rampant Jedi everywhere), .... etc...

The Point is something has to be done...

/raises glass.... heres to hoping that this game doesn't become KOTOR beta...

**im going to use large print becuase i have a large amount of rage right now.**

i didnt read all the **edit** you all posted before this. But after pub9 came out all you see is jedi knights EVERYWHERE. being an impi like to fight in some pvp. but now all you see is jedi every stalking you killing you every second. Just look at the intrepid server there is aleast 3 jedi knights in each city. SO if any imps want to do some pvp the little knights come around and kill y ou in like 5sec flat, not a chance. this is getting waaaay out of hand. Soon there will be nothing but jedipvping. let me ask you in the star wars moives/books how manytimes did you see a jedi justrun up topeople in the city and kill the.pvp is the only way to get someenjoyment in the game now its lame. why should the most powerful players be allowed to just run rampid on us. Isnt there anything you can do to even the playing field.I know some **edit** head is going to flame me but i know im not the only one that feels this way.

ps. **edit** spelling, you can figure it out.

It's pretty clear that there is a good deal of frustration concerning the Jedi situation. It is currently getting out of hand. There have been some great ideas (some in this thread) and a great number more that were deleted by moderators (for some odd reason). At least 5 or 6 dicussions that I participated in were removed.

It would be easier to remove the Jedi profession completely than try to "solve" the current issues.Jedi simply don't belong at this point for many esthetic and technical reasons. Savethe player Jedisfor when the SWG timelinegoes beyond "Return of the Jedi". Many companies have scrapped huge chunks of code and development time such as Blizzard. I recall a game that was near release about 4 or 5 years ago and they scrapped the whole game because it didn't meet their standards. Scrapping a bad idea or implementation is a common practice in the software development world.

SWG has a new Jump to Lightspeed package coming out that is sure to contain it's own set of bugs, exploits and etc. that will need to be fixed. The old professions could use a make over. More quests, items, in-game eventsand other features (such as new PvE entities) could be added. There are a good number of minor bugs and annoyancesthat should be fixed (such as having to keep re-selected Show Detail World Objects everytime one logs on). The list is quite lengthy. This alone (without the player Jedi)seems like plenty of work to keep the developers, world builders, and marketeersbusy for the next several years. Spend the time to cross the "T's" and dot the "I's".

The player Jedi profession should simply be scrapped or deprecated until it isbalanced and fits the Star Wars timeline and can be re-introduced.

If there is a need or demand for some force like powers that players can yield do something simplier like add limited force sensitive skills that can be earned or items that help players become more attuned for the force or something along those lines. This would be something that the even the casual player could enjoy. The power gamers will still power game regardless and find new avenues to become the uber characters they want to be with or without Jedi.

Thanks,

Fej

Fustration has become a great deal in SWG.In the beginning, players complained about there not being any jedi and today we say jedi are too powerful and should be scapped. It seems that everyone wants jedi to be exactly like they want it to be which can't happen, because everyone has their own unique opinion. It seems the only way it can be solved without scrapping jedi would be for you(Dev) to set out a bunch of ideas whereas players can vote on them point out what should be changed. Otherwise, we will be returning back to the beginning of SWG where players complain about not be any jedi.

I think that's a great idea Jediforcefighter. As long as the items to vote on are broad in scope. I can't stand those votes where there is no "None Of the Above" or the chioces force you into voting for a lesser evil/good.
