Well, we know from the complete mis-read of Droid Engineers' desires that led to the wonky DH plan how reliable 'lurking' to get information is.

Okay, I realize that I will probably get one star for this, but can we PLEASE move on? Let it go already.

Thats easy to say when its not your class.

I agree. I was against it being closed and I voiced opposition, but the decision was made. Instead, I want to encourage you all to incubate your good ideas in the many other forums as well.

In terms of getting community input on key issues though, this new direction is having a strong effect. I understand that SWG discussion was a great watercooler, but there are other forums here that work the same way.

And on that subject, may I hijack this thread a moment and ask you to pop into the Chef forum (I'd ask in the general forum, but it doesn't exist now )
I see posts on DE's all over the place, but a fundamental change happened on the TC to chefs, and there are issues with it. Any other profession sees a dev in there discussing the ideas with them, but not us (I know it only just went on live, but now is the time to get it sorted, not 2 days before patch day).

We would really appreciate some dialogue here, the DE's are getting it, teh CH got it, Merchants got it, please treat the Chef the same way

yeah TH,

I think you should say 'Oops' and go back to drawing board with DH/DE plans, as none of the stuff your discussing was even remotely close to correspondents plan.

----Thunderheart so are you guys planning on taking the holocrons out of the game?

Thanks for the all the hard work you guys have done for this game, it really is a cut above the rest.

Thanks

Yes and no.

No they most likely wont be in the new system. Yes you can keep your if you still have it. (Im keeping mine cause I save silly items )

So how long till the new system goes into place? If I'm still working on my Holiday Holo, should I just give up b/c it's useless to go for Jedi this way anyways?

Thanks

If you read the Friday Feature on the Jedi Path it has been stated that by changing from a holocron method to quest that those who have progressed along the path to date will NOT lose any of their progression....so if you're working on your silent holo, you're still pretty closeto becoming a Jedi. I say yay to the Jedi path changing....holo grinding always struck me as stupid

I for one amsorry to see the discussion board closed. it was hard enough getting a dev's attention in there, now it's going to be divided into them reading every profession/server to find areas that need to be changed overall. the bugs that still run rampant or continue popping up are not profession specific nor server, they are game wide. I feel it's just another way that they've alienated the player from the game.

Scrapping the holocron system then..?

I would notmind if come christmas they had put their hands up, admitted that the system for obtaining your force sensitive character slot wasnot what they wantedand that they had plans to change it in the near future. Sure, there would be a lot of people unhappy at the grind they had done and the work they had potentially lost, but it is better than what they have done now. Not only have theydecided to change a system which so many people are very close to completing, but they even gave us these holocrons to give us the illusion that we were one step closer to that Jedi Initiate title we all long for. They let us work at it for a month or so, and then quite simply move the goalposts and tell us that the holocrons we have are going to be degraded to decorative items? Im not one to bash Devs or other people who generally take a lot of community criticism, but I am seriously taking this as an insult to our intelligence, and time we have spent on this system.

If I have said something which is actually wrong, please point it out. But if this is how it is, I am really not impressed.

I have one more suggestion for ID threads, if anyone is still monitoring this discussion (pretty late, I know)

With the start of the first major ID thread that has worked it's way through the ID announcment section - Droid Invasion - there are a few more things that must be considered.

This is the first real test of the Dev Cycle system, and things are still a little rough.

1) It MUST be stressed to ALL players that ANY discussion of the ID topic that will be thoroughly analyzed by the devs will ONLY be in the ID thread.

So many people started parallel threads in the DE forum, and we all (devs especially) were somehow expected to monitor BOTH the ID thread AND the DE forum for discussions on Droid Invasion.

While all of the threads that were started in the DE forum had great ideas, the place to discuss Droid Invasion was the ID thread that the devs had started for that exact reason.

The time had passed for discussion of that topic in the DE forum. It was time to post ideas and opinions in the ID thread where the devs attention was focused.

That was the whole purpose of instituting the ID forum - so the devs would have one, easily accessible place to gather information on a specific topic.

2) Linking to discussion threads in the DE forum was also a problem in the ID thread.

Again, if people expect everyone (including devs) to monitor their ideas, then they MUST be posted in the ID thread, not linked to the DE forum.

3) There were several people (no names) that got on the ID thread every few hours and posted the same stuff over and over.

While everyones opinion is important, ELEVEN posts in THREE days by the SAME person crying "THIS IS STUPID! THIS IS STUPID!" did not help explore the topic of discussion, or the devs ability to ascertain the opinions of the players.

I realize that there's no way to physically prevent people from multiple postings, I wouldn't want to have any kind of limit imposed, and that most people did not abuse the ability, but it could be stressed in the opening post how important it is to be constructive and how much the devs want to hear peoples opinions and solutions, not repeated cojmplaints.

Maybe even going as far as to say, not only will rants and repeated griefing of an ID thread be ignored, but that the posts might even be deleted to keep the thread on topic and communication clear.

"When Sony and Lucas set out, we said, How can we do this and not make another EQ? We didn't want it to be all about Luke, or combat, or lock our players into a class. So we created a system that would allow players to switch professions during the game, and there would be a lot of gameplay around making that change. If you want to go from architect to scout we've created a system to make that happen."

You're forgetting one bit- what if the correspondant doesn't like your idea, and refuses to "gather that information" for your review.

It *IS* possible for correspondants to push their own perspective or "pet" issues.

It is possible, but not probable. I take their lists and then lurk in their respective forums to get an idea of how accurate they are, and right now there is a very dedicated group of corrsepondents. They do a very good job of representing your issues.

We do need a better way to pass along ideas... I know that there are a FEW good correspondents but unfortunatly the professions that i am involved in .. house correspondents.. that ONLY push what they believe to be a direction that profession should go.. they ONLY respond to ideas or posts that pat his own back.. or to ones that he can hold up and say "See I am RIght" It is frustrating especially when one of these professions is right on the Devs Palet know .. and it is our Opportunity to present great ideas.. I have went through these forums that I am talking about ..(I have a hard time Sleeping) and it is sad all the GREAT ideas that didnt get Ackowledged.. and i went back almost as many pages as I could..

If we have to keep the corruspondant system we neeed to at least have a way to hold them accountable for passing the ideas of the majority not their personal campaigns.. Most of YOUR great sources of ideas wont even bother with the forums anymore becuz it is pointless their ideas NEVER get heard even if it would mean a huge benifet to the Profession..

I am not just crying here.. I love starwars.. I love the POTENTIAL this game has.. And I like many of the UNHEARD just want to see it get better..

Freedom of speech is a term I like.

Freedom to reply to topics SOE deem necessary is what would apply to the forum changes.

I liked being able to post a topic that I thought was relevant and replying to posts made by other players.

In my opinion these new boards have no relation to the old SWG discussion board at all, its only silencing the unwanted statements and complaints about the many poorly made aspects of the game and its multitude of bugs and bandwidth-saving server code, nobody likes people to be saying harsh things about you are what you make but taking away our right to postOUR thoughts on topics WE MAKE is just for-lack-of-a-better-word lame.

To sum it all up, these new forums don't replace SWG discussion one little bit, it has zero, nada, zilch, to do with In concept, In development and In testing, these are all forums which have their own point (well only your points which u decide on), SWG discussion was a place where players could talk about what they wanted to talk about.

Funny story. Actually when SWG launched, I epitomized "bad item collector". The fiction behind my live character is that he is a gun runner for the rebels. So everytime I killed an NPC and looted a gun, I kept it. I kept my hatchets, my CDEF pistols, CDEF rifles...everything. I kept them and I put them in unlocked barrels (which are very cool when you set them down in a structure).I had about a dozen barrels loaded down with cheap loot weapons just for the sake of having a bunch of crated up weapons hidden in my house like an enterprising rebel....
