Thread: In Develepment #2004-1: Changes to the Official Forum Take 2

This is a double edged sword though.

First there is the "Implementation/Development" Factor, which describes the effort to implement a given feature (or suggestion by the community). In some cases it can be done in a week by one developer, in other cases it would take a team of 10 six months, and would require an entire new DB structure.

Second there is the "Desirability" Factor, which describes how much the community desires a given feature. Right now we are getting better at the desireability side of things, we have correspondents, we post issues, they get prioritized and reported.

Butthis processdoes not take into account the other side (Implementation). So that means that a lot of the desirables get lost in the transition as "Just too **edit** hard to implement". Add to it that response from devs is few and far between, so we never know what to drop, and replace with an easier more quicky fixed/implemented feature.

So how do we get that information? How do we know which of our requests will not get implemented so we can inform the community, and move on to the next one?

This is my first post and I have an off topic question, sorry.

----Thunderheart so are you guys planning on taking the holocrons out of the game?

Thanks for the all the hard work you guys have done for this game, it really is a cut above the rest.

Thunderheart, you need help. Get those cheap SOE bean-counters to hire at least 1 more person to take some of your load off! 4 million dollars a months in subscriptions alone......whats a measely 2k or so a month? If this were so, then you could actually do ONE THING till its done, and at the same time the other issues wouldn't be ignored.

Jedi will never be a starting profession...Looted items and quest items will never be better then crafted items, this is not a loot based game...CH will return shortly...CH and BE will not be back in game...Rangers are getting their revamp next!...The stealth system will not be changing in the spy expertise...Need any more examples of things the devs said that did not hold true?

The big challenge here is meeting expectations and reality. SWG is so big that there are thousands of different discussions we could have, but only some of them would actually be appropriate for what is actually in development.

Exactly TH... we want a place to chat about things that are not in development. (Even if it's just for us)

Otherwise you're kinda saying "Anything worth us knowing isn't gonna come from you. We'll tell you what is worth us knowing". ... that does NOT inspire a feeling of open communication.

You can post 150 threads about issues you want our input on... but what about those other 25 that are gonna take 3 more weeks for you guys to hear about (pulling data bit by bit across 32 different forums) when you could learn about it inside of 1 day if we had a place to post issues WE know about.

By removing the SWG Discussion forum, you have closed off all new communication with the community. We can't open threads in the new forums, and you don't read the galaxy forums. Please, something must be done

You're forgetting one bit- what if the correspondant doesn't like your idea, and refuses to "gather that information" for your review.

It *IS* possible for correspondants to push their own perspective or "pet" issues.

It is possible, but not probable. I take their lists and then lurk in their respective forums to get an idea of how accurate they are, and right now there is a very dedicated group of corrsepondents. They do a very good job of representing your issues.

I agree. I was against it being closed and I voiced opposition, but the decision was made. Instead, I want to encourage you all to incubate your good ideas in the many other forums as well.

In terms of getting community input on key issues though, this new direction is having a strong effect. I understand that SWG discussion was a great watercooler, but there are other forums here that work the same way.

Its never easy though. I still miss the original forums and the original set up. I also miss the old gray beta forums too, though. I just adapted and made the best of it. Its not always easy but I never let it prevent me from getting involved...

Well, we know from the complete mis-read of Droid Engineers' desires that led to the wonky DH plan how reliable 'lurking' to get information is.

Okay, I realize that I will probably get one star for this, but can we PLEASE move on? Let it go already.

TH--Please, correct me if I am wrong, but are you reworking the whole formula to become a jedi? I.E. No more "follow the holo" and now a new formula, maybe a quest based system? (If so,Yay)

Does this mean that the path to Jedi is being changed or that you not be able to attain Holocrons anymore?

I been holocron grinding for along time. i cant see why you need to change the system if some people are now JUST getting close to that last needed profession (i know its random). Is there any way that the old system could stay when you add a "quest based"? (Get FS byprofession or by quest?)

Thanks

I would alsolike to note that theres still a lot of broken quest in the game, name the 2 of the 4 badge spawns on tatooine (mark of courage and mark of honor). I dont think it would be a good idea to take out a system that you guess to where u would need to run around an area camping to get a "quest spawn" to become a jedi. just my 2 cents
