Thread: Weekly Roundtable Discussion (Week Ending 3-29-04)
There is a very simple fix to the AWOL voters issue. Give the mayor the ability to cast all absentee votes in the direction he wants. Since they default to him, he can't cheat, and if he wants to resign or the people want someone else, but the AWOLers are locking him in office, it gets taken care of. No one loses they're shuttleport, OR cantina.
* NPC MOBs all thinking they're TKMs now... bad, very bad
Well then what is the chance of getting them to clear. It doesn't make sense for your clones stomach to be full when you clone and rather annoying. That was the original question that didn't get answered.

What's the status on stomachs being emptied on cloning? Wasn't it supposed to be in the last publish?
No. The effects of food buffs are not cleared when you clone. They have to naturally time out.
Okay now you will have to clarify. You say the EFFECTS of Food Buffs are not cleared. But the EFFECTS are what clears when you clone. The only thing that stays is the TIMER. Your HAM goes back to normal when you clone and the TIMER remains. If the EFFECTS are not supposed to be cleared you have a nasty bug on yer hands that needs to be fixed ASAP.
1. CMs - so far overpowered as to be laughable. "Here, let me disable an entire group in 1 shot"
2. Armor - destroying the game - everyone running about in uber comp feels more like AO than SWG. Put in defense penalties for armor
3. Faction base defenses appear to be broken, still....
4. Craftable faction items - how hard could it be to make faction weapons, armor, installations, and furniture craftable? The art is already in game.

How do you vote out a mayor who no longer plays when alot of the town no longer plays?
An incumbent mayor has to run against the absentee mayor and everyone has to vote for the new mayor.
You missed the point of the question. IF the mayor is absentee *AND* some other player form the town are also absentee then there is NOTHING that the active players ca currently do about this situaton.
Welp if that many people are absent from your town - seems to me like you need to move and find a more active town or pa. I see this scenario as something your most likely not going to get anyhelp with because. The only way this sort of scenario would happen is if someone has gotten lot swaps lined out...something SOE working to prevent with the six week timer...or you have had alot people leave the game recently and havent timed out yet at either route....over time it will fix itself...a long time....or you got yourself into the padicament you are in. At either rate the awnser youll probably see is - that there is nothing you can do.
Iknow who logs on in my city and who doesn't. I regularly "bank tip" them 1 credit, and when they log on, I get an email saying it was delivered. It's a crazy way to do a BASIC politician function.
So your flippant answer, TH, about "how do I know they are AWOL" is answered. I can even point to houses in my city where the player is known to have cancelled their account. One house is in the way of FIVE redesigned streets. There is a 50m gap all around his house because he logged on while I was offline, distributed all of his money, dumped about 90 days of maintenance in, emailed me he was quitting this "buggy, piece o' etc." game, and cancelled his account. I spoke to him via IM, but really, he's a teenager, his parents cancelled the account, and they aren't going to let him restart it just to redeed a house.
Now, what are YOU, the development staff, going to do about the issue. You came into this thread, and hammered us with flippant and intentionally vague answers, and placed a burden of proof on us. Now that we have answered your off-the-cuff answers, we would like real answers.
Mytop 5 issues, suddenly are:
- Armoires and Bookcases do not store anything in houses, I have to use backpacks.
- The "shuttle from anywhere to anywhere" situation, in which I believe will destroy the sense of place in the game.
- Cloning is obviously not cloning if someone enters the universe with strange food in their stomach. Interestingly enough, the Star Wars continuity form of extreme healing would accept this [BACTA].
- Houses are littering cities/Politicians are a combination of ridiculously overpowered dictators and impotent gardeners with no access to vital information.
- Blasters are not the most common weapon in the galaxy amongst the elite. Blasters are the weapon that defines Star Wars, and should be reflected in the game.

(I think Ragnaatmeans the incumbent mayor *IS* the absentee mayor, and TH probably meant a 'challenger' instead of 'incumbent mayor')
How do you verify that all of these people are indeed AWOL?
We recently had a situation similar to this with our Guild City. We wanted to change mayors, but since votes are defaulted to the current mayor, it was extremely difficult to get a new candidate elected mayor due tothe sheer number of "AWOL" votes. Not everyone in the city was AWOL, but not everyone logged on every week, or took the time to swing by the voting booth. The most votes we were able to gather for the challenger wasabout 40% (and this was in coordination with the incumbent mayor!).
I believe this is why the 6 weeks of inactivity rule will be going into effect. It will take some time to tranfer, but eventually it should happen.
The way our guild solved our problem was by moving to a new city... not an easy accomplishment, but it did get rid of some of the dead wood...

In a metroplois with 94 people it took almost 8 hours a day for 5 days straight for 5 central city people running down players and doing everything possible to get them to vote for a new mayor when the previous mayor got call overseas for the military.
Mixed in the fact that we have MANY european players SOE has created a virtual IMPOSSIBLE situation to achieve unless all the players in cities are physically one homogenous group living in time zones right next to each other. People that want to live in a city but not deal with politics, not deal with anything other than the FEW hours they have to game weekly do not follow every email. To assume they do is short-sighted on the psychology of the group.
IF NOTHING ELSE, mayors should be able to flag structures for movement outside the city and CSRs would then provide warnings using the expansive and informative feedback similar to what they provide me when I have a problem now to contact the individual. If they are removed as a citizen after 6 weeks they should get 2 weeks and then the house and contents are moved outside the city by a CSR.

Easier said than done.
On Tempest there is a city called Vesnia which was a metropolis but is not only there as an exploit by the mayor. One of the accounts I pay for, Lamaerina, and a few other of the original day one sigups for the city cannot be removed from the city roles. The only house in the city limits are all hold overs from players that have quit the game completely.
I tell aCSR the player (AneEste)is using my character as a citizen and it is a bug/exploit and they say "Oh Well". Now tell me it's our fault/problem mate.
