I am new to posting on these boards. I think this is a wonderful idea if you can implement it properly. I will try not to say anything that has already been said on this post however I enjoy playing too much to read all the pages of posts that this one has.

So I will get right down to my thoughts.

I think that factional ranks could maybe have an overhead icon. Almost like a badge floating over my head, as it is not other members of my faction only know my rank because I put it in my bio.

A badge or stripes or something would be cool. Or, on the same not it would be kinda cool to add it to your name, such as "Sargeant So and so" Or better yet the correct abreviation for sargeant, which I cannot recall. I personaly think this would be a great idea. If possible an overt reb/imp would have this viewable by all, and a covert would have it shown only to his/her other faction members.

I drool at the thought of having a target floaty, I do not know even one squad leader though, and limiting it to them would not be very effective at all on my server. However I have a general idea for this.

Any Group leader can give a target, perhaps with the comand /showtarget which would allow everyone in the group to see the person targeted. I personaly like the idea of a large target box over them, like some of the shooter games. However even something simple would be good. I think it would be effective if anyone could do this in a group. But SL should be given the ability to give the other members in the group the adds to hit, damage, or whatever against them ie anyone can target, but a SL gives everyone in the group a +5 accuracy or something to that effect.

As for the general idea I do use medic on the side, having a icon would be a good thing.

It should only be available to a Master Medic as a new skill, as anyone can get Novice medic and use it in PvP to kill the weak.

I don't see a problem with it as an option. However, most of the stuff in game simply takes me out of the game (mental-wise). I have chatbubbles, names, objects, just about everything possible turned off.

I realize you want to make it so the average simian can play this game, but I honestly think we're more intelligent than you give us credit for. And this is coming from a person who thinks most people are fairly stupid.

could it be possible for ONLY medics to see these icons?

I agree with some of the other posters that it could be used to single out the weak players to get more kills. There may not be a statistic reason for this nor a reward. But all that they usually care about is being able to say I killed this many guys! And even if nobody listens they will be content with themselves and the grief they cause

I think to see the badly wounded players make it a Master Medic or Doctor ability. I just can imagine people in PvP using that ability to scope out targets. If they do at least make the earn it. Other than that.. I have no ideas.

How about doing something like this that you can see that it tells you that you have a TEF. Others can also see it and know if healing you would then give them a TEF too. So then all the cry babies that whine about getting a TEF in a med center while healing someone would stop.

great idea as long as the only people who see the icon are the people you are grouped with

I heard someone talk about Medic's and healing and i thought this was a good opportunity to bring up one of my only pet peeves with this game so far. Stimpack healing during a battle.
Just because my weapon i'm weilding takes 4.9 seconds to recharge, that won't explain why i have to wait for my weapon to recharge before i can heal myself. Stimpacks are used and have a timer, and you have the ability to access a tree in the medic profession to heal more times per minute then other players can using stimpacks. Now all of this goes down the drain when i'm using my flamethrower because i have to wait so long to heal. I find myself at the point where i use a special and 4 mobs aggro me (i still havn't used a stim yet) So i'm waiting around for 5 seconds for my special counter to tick down so my stimpack will work. But it doesn't. infact it takes alot longer to work then expected, i find i have to estimate when in the battle i need a heal and i have to punch it in with my attack combinations before any damage even occurs. so i hit: special - heal - special - heal - special - heal, just as i'm taking my first shot. Yeah it works but it's not right! infact i feel so gimped that i can't just pull out a stim from my backpack while my weapon is recharging and healmyself as long as i havn't used a stim recently (according to my players healdamage timer)... I really want the dev team to look into this matter and test it out with something other then a 1.4 sliced scatter. Try healing yourself after a special with a slow rifle or flamethrower while your pistoleer friend is covering you with stopping shots.
I sent in a CSR ticket and i was told stimpacks are stacked with Combat Actions, well if so, atleast let them pop up on our action box during a battle, if you don't want to change how the stacking of heal's works on combat action.
I love the game the way it is, and i see you make alot of changes because of complaints.
Well whats ruining this game for me is all these people complaining.
I know i'm sort of complaining with the item in question above, but it's more of an action order during a battle. I hear people demanding to nerf entire professions. I've been across the galaxy (server i'm on) finding people to fight, and let me tell you.. Noone stands a chance.. I'm not a master at anything except marksman and i found an awsome combination of skills using the points i have to put together one of the badest, bloodthirsty pvp killers....

i'm a mix of a Commando, Medic, Creature Handler, Scout, Marksman (i used to be bountyhunter but it got really boring, now i kill master bountyhunters when i get bored so don't get my started on they are strongest) Infact when i get enough heavy weapon exp (i love to let my pet tank on dath while i reap the benetifs from baz nitches) I'm dropping CH and Scout i'll complete master medic and i'll grab the fourth column of combat medic so ontop of burning you to death, i'll drop a mind disease after you die to keep you down.

BTW i just picked up my 80% resistance composite helmet and chest to acompany my 75%-79% resistance composite suit.
Encumbrance: 739 / 663 / 772 HAM.
Worth it? Yes.. every last bit. Find a chef, grab a doctor, watch a master musician for 15 minutes, enjoy

-Obie EcoJee - If you see this then you have been warned [Lowca] {BBFE}

p.s. to all you whinners, Once you realize that mixing professions is the most powerful, you are going to demand the devs NERF professional combinations. Can hit 2K in pvp and still fully heal himself with 1 stimpack.. run b**ch run...

Today one of the programmers decided to add a floating icon over people's heads who were badly wounded (he was playing a medic, and found it useful). This led to a discussion on how a feature like this might work--what filters you'd want, who should be able to see the icons, how you turn them on and off.

Another suggestion was the ability for a group leader to set an icon over a target (I believe that the squad leaders have already asked for something like this as an ability). Ability for anyone? For SL's only?

What do you think about all these notions?

This really needs to be a Squad Leader only tool. Even the part about having the icons over the heads of people needing heals.

Squad Leaders are in DESPERATE need of things that will... you know... actually make people want them to lead their squads (groups).

The ability for a Squad Leader to mark the target he wants the group to attack would be an invaluable tool to keeping things organized, and I like the idea of having a Squad Leader in the group automatically putting a marker over the head of someone needing a heal, though from what Ive seen with working with medics and healers, its not really necessary. They generally pay more attention to the group members bars than to the actual avatar.

Let me clarify that last part regarding the Squad Leader automatically putting a marker over someone needing a heal.

What I meant by that was that it should be a passive thing. Like if a Squad Leader is leading the group and someone goes below 30% in a pool, the icon automatically goes over that persons head for the medic (or anyone for that matter) in the group to take notice of. It shouldnt require the SL to actually click the person and hit a "mark targer for healing" macro, by the time you do that a good medic will have already taken care of it.

Also, marking targets should be a LOW END Squad Leader skill. Like Novice Squad Leader or 1st tier. Like someone said earlier, we shouldnt get an interface organizer on the third or fourth tier.

Personally I don't need some Squad Leader telling me who to heal. I can see just fine from the group UI. I don't need an SL yelling for me to heal someone who is obviously about to go down from mind damage and not health or action. That happens WAY too often. No one but a Medic/CM/Doc has any business directing triage, not even a Squad Leader. Let me do my job and you all do yours. And by the way, Kudos to the idiot Dev who came up with No rezzing or dragging while rallied. ,,i,,That was a real milestone in your career I bet.

Bad for one reason enemies will automatically target you, you should make it viewable by faction members or nuetral and not to enemies. also will we have to stare at this on the screen? or will it just be viewable by other players like your name ?
