If he can't then it has already been sliced.
A backwards workaround required by the Devs not fully considering and accounting for the impact of making sliced items contraband.
I understand they're working on adding the "feature" of being able to tell whether an item's sliced via the examine window with (I believe) the next publish, but this should have been implemented at the same time as the crackdown.
It makes no sense to have the certification to use a weapon, but not be able to tell whether it's been jury-rigged; and it makes no sense to hurt the newer players that don't know any better (what experienced player is going to buy a sliced CDEF weapon from the bazaar, or doesn't realize that his Scout Blaster is sliced--when chances are he's the one that asked a smuggler to do the slice?!).
Hilcalanthe, I apologise I had no itention nor a desire to start a rant or a flame. I am trying to understand the other camp's interpretation as it were and searching through these forums is an exercise in futility in itself. I understand if it is too much to ask for some quotes or links to other threads so I will end it on your note "it's simply a matter of two camps with different interpretations"
I love it love it!
Now it should be in every Imp city!
Bah that sounds like an incite/flame it's not meant to be
Off topic: Where's all the advanced features like quotes, bold, italics and the EDIT button?
Patch notes for 13th February 2004
Spawning: Fix for multiple NPC spawns in crackdown cities
Jedi: Sometimes NPC Imperials would mark a Jedi Overt during crackdown events. Jedi are now only given a TEF.
Nice job devs
OT: Look who's learnt how to bold an item
I am livid about the stealth nerf of Droid Compartments to 50/50 OQ/COND vice OQ.
This stealth change in droid compartments has nothing to do with DE's, per se. Name one single item that DE's make where experimentation on this single component has either A) any effect, or B) any effect nearly are dramatic as that of stations.
This is, yet again, a stealth nerf that has literally wiped out just short of 5 RL months of planning on my part since the only spawn of highOQ metal on Tempest was early September 4 days before I started playing the game. Literally 36 million game credits have been put aside by me to build stations as soon as a single high OQ metal spawn occurs on Tempest. FIVE MONTHS OF PLANNING GONE DOWN THE DRAIN INSTANTLY BY A STEALTH NERF.
Hey, Thunderheart, since you've touted that you're playing an architect lately tell me about fairness in this gem. With an otherwise good publish that comes out without the previous earth-shattering problems you have to grieve architects that have spent FIVE MONTHS OF OUR LIVES in anticipation of overcoming a nigh difficult formula to achieve in the first place with this STEALTH NERF.
I think I'm gonna post this in a few places. I was just stunned lastnight.
Does the nerfing never stop? Seriously does anyone there give a damn about the dedication of customers to this game?

Np. It's just that you can only hear and respond to the "if you don't want to pvp, either drop the contraband or quit the rebellion" argument so many times before you begin to get frustrated with arguing the same point over and over again.
If you do indeed want to read a few threads other than this one, here're two others I'm following:
Weekly Roundtable Discussion (Week Ending 2-16-04)
Imperial Crackdown - It is FORCING us to do PvP? I thought SOE would NEVER force PvP!
- Stormtroopers need to be able to call for backup on their own, alerting all Stormies within, say, 60 meters from where they are when they get attacked to come to their defense. It's too easy to isolate one and kill them without drawing any other aggros.
- The cantina harassment will be old after maybe 3 or 4 views. Either vary the dialogue ormake it interactive somehow. There's no reason for me to not just ignore the Imperials if they come in and harass us. As far as I know, there is zero consequence to just sitting there and ignoring them. Why would anyone in a cantina need to group with a Smuggler again?
- The "town crier" Stormiesthat announce that you're a suspected sympathizer should broadcast that message about Neutrals, too. There needs to be less certainty and mathematical precision to identifying a Covert Rebel. This is suspicion, after all, not certainty. Make it randomly choose Neutrals to say that they're sympathizers, too. Smugglers should have a chance of not being called out like this.
- Don't put tons of ATSTs in town if you want to beef up the Imperial presence. Strengthen Stormie resists and/or HAMor add more of them altogether, but don't cop out and just add the one-shot killers.
- There may be too many Rebel Commandos spawning. At any rate, they should probably run in from out of town or pile out of a house rather than just warp in to the middle fo the city.
- Civilian Patrolmen are a joke. They may as well be replaced with regular Stormtroopers (though the spawn rate will have to scale down), because they can't survive a single shot.
