Thread: Publish 6 Feedback: Imperial Crackdown

Am I missing something? Seriously, can someone please tell me how this is FORCED PvP when you, YOU the player have 100% total control over the factors leading to possible PvP?

If you carry contraband into a cantina or an Imperial controlled city then you MUST accept the consequences. If these are genuinely not acceptable to you then a)avoid the above areas when carrying contraband, b)group with a smuggler, c) become Imperial or neutral d) stop carrying contraband altogether.

No one is FORCING you to carry contraband therefore no-one can FORCE you into PvP. The choice is ultimately yours

This was not meant to be a rant or a flame, I am genuinely interested in why people think PvP is something they cannot avoid now??

Where is the soooo anticipated Imerial Crackdown????

All i can see is a bunch of walking_faction_points, you really thought those wimpy stoorm troopers could be anything else than a exploit?

Now is not needed to travel to get tons of XP an FP just stay at city and farm them lol

Im rebel, before Imperial crack down was announced i was planing on sift imperial cos they were so outnumbered, once the IC was annouced i thought "time to stay rebel" maybe it will be now hard (as supposed to be) to be a rebel, but once it was stated how IC would work i was sure it was time to sift imperial, was pretty obvious Rebs would be farming.

It coming live have confirmed it, soooo easy, so pointless, so exploitable, so weird.

TH has already admitted that the crackdown brings a change in gcw and pvp philosophy. Rather than feigning ignorance and asking people to explain yet again why this is so, why don't you read the numerous threads about this with an open mind and find out for yourself?

Explain yet again? I haven't seen any explanation, not even from TH, as to why this is FORCED PvP. The philosophy has changed in that now you are MORE LIKELY to be involved in PvP but the situation remains the same.

Again I say: If no one FORCES you to carry contraband then how can they FORCE you to PvP?

Travis75; "Imperials aren't better at Smuggling, being immune from consequences and being better at it aren't the same thing."

One definition of smuggler is a person that moves contraband past authorities.
Before this publish smugglers have had nothing, nil, zero content to smuggle. They were smugglers only by title not by any actions.
Whilst what you say is true, the biggest gripe the smugglers have is that the first ever occurance of illegal content in game and Imperials can achieve the same result they can but for a lot less work.
Let me highlight with some numbers:

According to the patch notes the punishment for overt Imperials is nothing; "junior officers will salute their superiors"
For a human joining the faction it costs something like 200 faction points, this gets them the lowest rank (Private?)
They can now declare overt and 'smuggle' contraband with out punishment.

A smuggler must get 91,000 unarmed experience and 91,000 pistol experience just to make novice smuggler. That gives them a 15% chance to avoid scans, not much. To get more chance they need to get the underworld skill tree. To get to underworld 3 and get a 60% chance of avoiding scans it will cost them 375,000 pistol exp, to get a 75% chance they will need to get an extra 300,000 pistol experience on top of that. I'm not going to outline the cost of getting to master smuggler to get the 95% chance to avoid scans.

Bottom line; smugglers have been waiting since launch to actually 'smuggle' They have gone through the bugs that plague every profession, they have sat back and watched as other professions get tweaks and/or additions to give them more meaning whilst they play as something between an artisan and a mid level fighter (ie NOT a 'smuggler'). Now that contraband is put in the game 'smuggling' becomes a faction perk and all their hard work is for nowt - and that hurts.

Kai, you may not belive it, but some people dont like PvP, but would still want to experience everything in a game. They want to harvest, be a rebel/or an imperial, take on some NPCs, monsters, make lots of money to buy the best weapon or armour they can afford.Taking on a PC as oppose toa NPC is a much more risky affair, and they don't see the risks invovled justified as they dont get as much gratification killing another player.

Why this form of 'forced' PvP, IMHO, should be reconsidered is

a) players that fit the profile above will feel that they are deprived from certain items and aspects of the game if they want to totally avoid PvP.

b) my friend -a girl - plays as a rebel, cos she wants to be like Princess Leia, minus the fighting. She doesnt like fighting. She'll go on missions to make some money, but mostly, she likes to craft items for friends and spend her time chatting. So she's pretty affected now that she knows she can get 'killed' in Coronet, where she's grown accustomed to hanging out. She's stopped logging in, contemplating on going back to EQ.

c) nowhere on the box does it says you have to engage in PvP to enjoy the game. This is not suppose to be CS.

Yes, its lame, wanting to be a rebel or have a slicedweaponbut not wanting to PvP blah blah... Some adults have enough stress in real life, so they just want to live out a fantasy after work, not having to look over their shoulder all the time. We have enough of that outside our homes!

So I urge the developers to think this through. They need to find a balance - give PvPs what they want, but dont forget about the others who just want do some missions, craft an item, chat with friends etc. I believe the SWGgame world is big enough to accommodate both.

Regards

Mukkie

Again, I say read existing threads.

The fact is, your simple assertion is nothing new. It's been said enough times already, and more than enough adequate rebuttals have been posted that it's simply a matter of two camps with different interpretations. If you have something new to add, please do.

But rather than merely asking us to say the same things we've already said before, how about you try quoting and rebutting specific points that have been raised in defence of this being forced pvp?

If you're unable or unwilling to do that, you either prove that you haven't read the arguments or are unable to debate your point.

I'm incredibly disappointed.

Theme Parks were supposed to be revamped? They're the same, boring, tedious missions, with mildy cool rewards now.

Crackdown? The crackdown is a joke. The crackdown will do nothing but make the Rebellion stronger. I haven't been 'shaken down' once. I really don't feel any increased Imperial presence.

Bah, I'm really let down. I used this as a means to drag a couple friends back into this game. Lame.

This is probably a dumb question that has been answered many times (but I didn't see any during my search). If sliced weapons are illegal now, how can you tell if you have one?

Thanks.

Ask a smuggler to slice it for you If he can't then it has already been sliced.
