Doing some very quick calculations, a Master CH requires 106 skill points and a Master BH requires 217. I believe that a Master BH is approximately a level 25 (correct me if I am mistaken) - i.e. a level 25 creature cons white to a MBH. Even with a level 15 pet (assuming levels are additive - a bit oversimplifying I know, but still in the ballpark) a MBH could be a level 40 (25+15). That is 5.4 skill points per level (217/40). A MCH can have 60 levels in pets, thus are 20 levels more powerful than a MBH. This is 1.8 skill points per level (106/60).

I don't agree with your calculations. There is more than calculated CL (which system is totally broken IMO) as to what's more powerful.

Creature CL vs player CL doesn't equate because not only is armor not taken into account properly (no creature can penetrate armor at all) but damage output especially considering multipliers like special moves output also is not properly taken into account.

The real balance issue to me is that dabbling should be left only to the first tier proffesions, and elite proffessions should not allow so much power for so little investment. Many of them allow most of the power (damage output/tanking ability/whatever is the strength of that preffesion) in a similar "two tree wonder" that CH is bieng adjusted out of now.

Either lock people to a single elite proffesion, or force all first level skills to be attained before a second level skill can be attained (require 1/1/1/1 before 2/1/1/1 or 1/1/2/1 for example) or simply raise skill requirements for elite proffesions to the point there is nothing extra after mastering one of any of them.

The player strength is so far out of whack with the environment and getting worse. atst's farming Krayts like baby seals, Commandos dropping anything with a single shot etc. I would think a Krayt would smack an atst down in one swat personally, and make a tasty snack out of 20 players.

Specials are way out of balance, bleeds, flame and other DOT's are way too damaging for way too long. Special moves are not even special... What is "special" about a move you can spam throughout a fight. People use "specials" more than regular shots. IMO a special move should be one per fight, one per few minutes, the cost should be 50% HAM to use one, and heals should go from instant to a reverse DOT adding health back in ticks over time.

Either we all have to get toned down or the environment and our HAM's are going to have to be tuned waaay up.

Anyway that's my soapbox speech.

I really like the changes as now proposed, and I think the communication has been improved 1000% between development and players now, thanks TH.

This changes make my new petsI just bought useles, soI wasted my money as non ch for petsI cant call anymore soon. I think that hits the majority of non CH players that have now worthless pets. Would be nice if they at last get nerfed to level 10 and not made absolutley useless so we have to destroy them.

That seems like a decent idea though. Right now there's seriously only about 4 non-ch pets people use regularly for combat:

Cowardly Gurreck

Rock Beetle

Mountain Krevol (a bit better than the rock beetle)

Mountain Murrah

However after these changes those mountain krevols and rock beetles all the non-ch have are going to be a low level CH's best friend. (unless they nerf the armor of course)

There's no need to panic right now though. Everyone will get plenty of time to get rid of thepetsor regrind to a new ch template. I think once the stuff hits TC, that's the time to start taking advantage of changing your boxes around.

any ch worth his salt know there are tons of great level 20 pets.

also having storage in one tree is a great idea.

if you want the power of the other trees pluss storage you need to be master

So, how will the new plan affect the Wookiee CH racial bonus? Looks to me like a wookiee will POSSIBLY be able to tame something in less tries. Since this is random anyway, it's not even guaranteed to be easier to tame. Will we still be able to control more vicious/aggro pets then non-Wookiees?

I've got to say, I'm absolutely gobsmacked.

It's clear the issues you've teased out of the forum's responses are bang on the mark and I assume the fine tuning will be done on TC.

Whether everybody will agree with these changes is debatable. What isn't debatable is the fact you have listened, correlated and provided solutions in a timely fashion. Truly remarkable from my experience with MMORPGs. This bodes well for the future and encourages me to contribute.

Here's ten stars for the accomplishment..

Pt 3Nope, ANYONE and EVERYONE can have a mount. If you arent a CH, you just have go get or buy a critter and have it trained. You could even buy a critter from a BE, but then you would have to get it trained by a CH..."

but my creature is lvl 15 for some reason and it's a male kaddu. I read that the change is going to be that 10 is the max lvl. How am i gonna mount if i can't take out my pet to mount on? Kaadu's arn't even that strong. Probably the weekest creature out there you can mount. I think anyway. Will training it to mount reduce the level or something? meh - i'm all confused i guess i'll just wait until it happens. thanks for answering my question though!

"Message Body: You don't have permission to post HTML. Tag contains restricted 'dir' parameter:" - this is very frustrating!!! why give us the ability to add HTML if we can't post it? Took me 10 minutes to figure out why it wouldn't post.

Thunderheart,
Thank you for the info. Sounds better to me. I especially appreciate the back and forth feedback in this post, instead of one statement and then the rest being people arguing back and forth for 10 pages, without a response from SOE, in the mix. The bidirectional communication gives me new hope.

Thank you,

ps. Im still gonna grind while I have the option for the 2x XP to get master or as close to master as I can before the changes go into affect

Pt 3This does nothing for balance, it removes the exploiters who were dabbling. It will now take a few more skill points to get the same power.

Did notice one thing, no mention of when they are going to fix the bugs mentioned during the closed beta and the first list the correspondents sent in.

As for thoses saying this is a good first step, just a little history since most of the people who started this game when it game out have left and it mainly is newer people still around, this is the second big change to the CH class. Another big change was made to the CH a few weeks after release, and like theses ideas did not do anything to limit the pet classes(fraction, now DE, and CH)

Pt 3Dashida I am just tired of seeing the devs more concerned with nerfing something and not looking to fix things that are truely broken. Creature repel on Ranger camps.. Broke since beta.. Honor Badge quest, I believe that is the one with the ranchers/pirates.. broke since the first time I saw it and is still broke. Creatures that warp 60+ meters because theres a twig on the ground.. I liked using creatures in my gameplay because with the ludicrous 2.5x damage in melee that a rifleman takes. At 4004 rifleman unless I want to kill womprats for fun I cant go out and fight challenging creatures with no pet because I will simply die. Atleast I have a chance with a decent level pet.

A step by step addressing of each of the correspondant's issues without resorting to the typical "we'll look in to it" response.

Please take time to consider what a massive amount of work that is. I *will* be doing that, but if you expect it in a day or two, then Im going to have to dissappoint you. My goal is to do a good and thorough job, not a quick and shoddy job. It will be done, done expiditiously and that's that.

TH,

I think you misread my post. I said "correspondent's" possessive, not "correspondents" plural. It was a complement for going through and addressing each of the Creature Handlers' correspondent issues with the changes, not a criticism for not doing this for each profession, which I realize is a monumental task.

Pet Issue: What will happen to 'legacy' pets that are currently CL 10-15? Will they become unusable by the non-CH who has purchased/been given them under the current CL 15 system? Will they be rebalanced to CL 10 either automatically or through some voluntary means? Should people like me, who have been giving CL 12 and 14 female and male kaadu as gifts to non-CH friends be worried about whether they'll be mountable?

Unfortunately, most of these pets will be stuck in your datapad. You won't be able to call them or trade them (unless they know the transfer command), because they are higher level than 10. Your only option will be to destroy the PCD.

This seems pretty broken to me. Non Creature Handlers have been able to use up to CL 15 pets to now. Changing this is something I think most people are in favor of (or at least understand the reasons for), but this is design change, not a simple tweaking.

By making CL 11-15 pets that a non-CH has non functional, the Devs are punishing people for something that was acceptable up to now. Whether these non-CH's purchased their pet from a CH or whether a CH was simply nice enough to give the pet for free doesn't negate the fact that a non-CH isn't able to get a pet on his/her own and will need to pay again (or otherwise beg a CH) for another pet to replace the obsolete one. The new pet won't be as tough so it will add insult to injury, where if the Devs devised a way to shrink (de-grow) all pets held by non-CH's to CL10 it would be a little more palettable.

With mounts, every CH is going to be harassed non-stop for weeks by people wanting faster, "cooler" means of travel. Why add even more pressure to CH's by forcing them to deal with players wanting to replace their CL 11-15 pets?

Again, just to be clear, I fully support the suggested changes in the name of balance. Pets in general are way overpowered and while I'm sure many people will miss them, there is a level of understanding coming about by the communication the Devs are bringing forth here. I do, however, strongly encourage the Devs to work out a migration plan for players that will over their CL limit in the new system so that any bad feelings towards this change aren't made worse.
