Thread: “Oh my…sir, he says there are several creatures approaching
I believe on test server they said that growth can be arrested at a lower level to makea pet a mount for non CH. Basically it doesn't grow anymore once you train it to be a mount. There is specualtion that even a grown one wil revert to CL10 when trained as a mount, but that doesn't seem to be the way it works.

Here is my concern:
I am not a Creature Handler. With at least two of my characters, I don't intend to be. I want a brackaset as a mount. I don't want it to fight, I just want to ride it. Please, please, please tell me that non-CHs aren't going to be stuck with the really ridiculous choices of carrion spat and kaadu. (Because if they are, I'm stuck for another month until vehicles come out, as I am far too dignified to ride either an overglorified duck or vulture.) I understand that BEs will be able to lower the CLs...please tell me they'll be able to lower them enough to give me some dignity...
Say no to mountable fowl!
where are the current patch notes for TC? You promised them last week. Thanks
Yep. you are right, but there are some things going on that have delayed that a tiny bit.
And, are DEs about to have a similar discussion about our issues with the new "plan"?
Yep ![]()
Can both be fighters? Or is it one mount and one fighter?
Yep! That example in the post was just an example...
A step by step addressing of each of the correspondant's issues without resorting to the typical "we'll look in to it" response.
Please take time to consider what a massive amount of work that is. I *will* be doing that, but if you expect it in a day or two, then Im going to have to dissappoint you. My goal is to do a good and thorough job, not a quick and shoddy job. It will be done, done expiditiously and that's that.

What the!? soo no one will be able to have mounts but CH's?
Nope, ANYONE and EVERYONE can have a mount.
If you arent a CH, you just have go get or buy a critter and have it trained. You could even buy a critter from a BE, but then you would have to get it trained by a CH...
More if I can. I have to go visit the Correspondents, the Droid Engineers and the TC Colony ![]()
Well I just want to thank the devs for labeling me an "exploiter". Your game adventure manual states skills and professions as this.
"The character you define during character creation is only a starting point for your online persona. As you advance through the game, your character will evolve, gaining new skills, abilities, and even entire professions over time. You are free to choose exactly how your character grows and changes, deciding whether you want to specialize in a small set of related skills or to expand and deversify."
I guess that last part should read.. unless you want to be a creature handler then you must be a master to control a high end pet because we dont want any dabblers in that profession. My character in game was a Master Ranger I chose Rifleman because that seemed like the weapon of choice for the chosen profession. I also went creature handler because I assumed a Ranger would also have a little creature empathy. So the combination of skills seemed appropriate. I went out and tamed all the pets I owned or used. I have been waiting for creature mounts to come out with my mountain dewback sitting patiently in the datapad for just that use. Now it will just sit there until the changes and then get deleted since I most likely wont be able to use him as he is a level 20 pet. Thanks once again for making my game play and the countless hours of skill buildingworthless.
Yes, this makes no sense. Don't put all the storage bonuses in one single tree. Isn't things like this the very problem you are trying to fix? Spread it out more. Make it one per box and then have +5 at master for example (I am aware that this increases the total to 25 - I don't see a problem with this, especially with mounts coming).
Tzan wrote:What happened to One Number to rule them all?
Looks like you just kept them same system but spread out Taming skill, but lumped Storage into one column.
No complaints from me, but it looks very odd seeing a developer (not you) swing to extremes like that.
There's something seriously wrong with Reply. I replied twice to this thread, and both responses ended up getting tacked onto the Pt 1 thread! Here's a response directly to Thunderheart's original message in this thread. Hopefully it'll end up in the right place... ![]()
Thunderheart, my concern with the reintroduction of rare and more challenging babies is their effect upon the BE. I'm about 25K XP from BE mastery, and am still having a difficult time finding people interested in buying clones. When everybody and their grandmother is a CH, everybody and their grandmother can tame their own pets. Of course the proposed changes will likely cause a lot of people to drop CH (one can hope), leaving it for the more serious players.
BEs need something to give CH the incentive to buy from us. We need rare clones, better clones than can be found in the wild, or clones that can't be found in the wild at all. While I understand there are supposed to be an upcoming set of clones at some point in the future, there's currently little we have to offer in the pet department. I'm hoping these proposed CH changes are being made in consideration of the effect they'll have upon the BE.
"However, in the case of riflemen, unless the warping issue is resolved, you're still going to be in a situation where you'll need a pet or another player to take on higher level mobs, because someone will need to tank for you given the melee penalties you suffer."
Yes that's exactly my point. If you solve the ability for a 1 2 0 1 rifleman to solo at an interesting mob level, not a master rifleman, not a TKA, not a group, THEN you have solved pet wars.
I use rifleman specifically because it is the most, bar none difficult profession to solo before master.
Solve that. In solving that you will have to havesolved them all.
Well I don't like the new changes at all.. Once again you are making a big change to a profession that has little impact to those who already made Master and don't have to deal with it but pity if you are trying to climb the trees and aren't a master. Once again your making it a bigger grind as now you won't get that extra pet benefit so pity if you aren't already a master... Oh, and don't worry about grinding to Mngt 4 so you can even transfer a pet, now you have to grind to Master... But once again, the Master CH's applaud you as they didn't loose as much as the could have as we all know how badly you can nerf a whole profession, masters included, at least they can applaud your major nerf. Every profession skill tree has particular branches that provide more benefit then others and every profession uses that to their best advantage when deciding how they want to advance. To me, your changes take away more then they provide, there are no advantages, just disadvantages now. Pets I have been using will no longer be available for me to use and it will take longer till I can use them. Do you think this is going to spark my interest in this game or motivate me in any way? Seriously... I thought the grind was insane enough as it was... Now I have to evaluate if I want to even accept this new "challenge". Well I suppose this will sure stop all those people who were jumping on the CH bandwagon but have you considered where they are going to go next instead?
I guess I was having too much fun...
If everyone has an "inherant" lvl 10, then it begs the question that doesn't Novice CH +10 give you command of a lvl 20 pet... on no, that can't be...That would make becoming a Nov CH worth too much... I suppose now instead of a Durni they will get a what? What animal in the game is even lvl 12??? One of those chicken things?
"Oh my...sir, he says there are several durni's approaching" be afraid...

You're overexaggerating. Take a chill pill. You're not entirely crippled by any means.
TH,
I liked the changes as initially posted. I love them now. Thank you for all your hard work in getting things addressed.
Now, could you possibly take up the torch on a couple of other CH issues???
1) pets stopping at zone borders. it is nearly impossible to travel cross country with a pet in tow, and without one CH are not a combat class and are fairly vulnerable when we get jumped and send our pet on the mob only to find him lounging 500+m away at a zone line picking furballs out of their butts
2) pets disappearing in the middle of combat. nothing quite so interesting as sending in two pets into a group of hostile red creatures only to have them poof and watch as the swarm of red mobs come over and make me into a chew-toy...
3) make a /namepet command. in real life it takes no special skills to call your dog/cat/horse/goat a name over and over when you interact with them and have them recognize their names. It should not take a creature handler to teach a pet its name. this would also save CH from having to do Fluffy a(ttack), Fluffy g(roup), Fluffy f(ollow), Fluffy s(tore) and then RETAME them again to use the shortcut commands without having to type their name. Should be able to do a /namepet Fluffy and that should be available to both CH and non-CH.
If we could get those two critical items (and one convenience item) addressed I would say you could check off CH as your work being done and you could focus on the other classes. Thanks again for listening to the input and for working to make the game better. Your efforts are recognized and appreciated.
Gydeon, Master Creature Handler (well...soon anyway, hehe)
i think you guys should apologize to TH!
hehe
or some of you!.
Deart THunderheart!
i have 2 questions
1. are level 30 and below losing armor? it was mentioned and then wasn't mentioned again with the other changes.........will this change level 30 only, how about level 32? level 33?
2. will this be a retro fit change or only on new spawns.
thanks for all your work.
If a master CH trains a mount with commands like Stay and Follow, can a non-ch execute those commands?
(This would be nice for using "Stay" to stable your mount outside a bar or camp)
