Thread: Thoughts on the Warren?
um, ya, looks like it isnt what its cracked up to be. I havent been yet, and I wont until the camp aspect has been removed. Same thing for any future "content" that promotes camping. Come on Holo, dont you have anything to say to all these folks that have valid gripes, or are you content with your last post on the subject??
I have had many reasons to quit this game, but I swear to you if I witness EQ-like camping on a quest I'm following, it will be good-bye, just like I did in EQ years ago, after only playing a month of that trash.
More content of this type will not solve the problem, there will always be some pimply faced loser that has to steal the item to sell it to the next sap that comes along, or worse sit there and laugh at you and not even offer the itemfor sale. This isbreaking the immersion of the quest, not to mention player griefing which shouldget themselvesperma-banned.
Its sad thatthe best and worst part of these MMO games are the players themselves. No NPC code ever written can compare to what a real player can bring to the game, and conversely no demon ever spawnedis asevil a 14 year old with little-man syndrome.
first of all i liked the warren a lot! in tarquinas... didnt know about the escapee key at first , but there were some very helpful people around to help out....
met a lot of cool people and was cool place to be in.. kinda like being in a disney world theme attraction...
thing i didnt like was the letter spawn in the med center.... not fun at all... i did have fun talking to the people on the line we created to get the letter in a civilized manner... waited for 4 hours bcause i was 3rd in line..... some people were coming in and trying to ninja-steal the letter though...
also it wasnt clear what the requirements for the missions were..... i learned about them by talking to other people who had been there before... heard there was another mission that gave an imperial badge ... being a rebel, im not sure i want a badge that says i am a helper of the empire though.....
i hopeto see more of these big dungeon/badge/cool stuff to see and do places... I was losing faith in swg.. im actually playing again!!! yay!!!

In my server, someone are campingthe letter in the medical room. Also the letter spawn one every hour, it is too long. Sometimes four to five people are sitting around the corpse and waiting the single letter to spawn. I don't think this way to get a badge is fun, or interesting. I hope the developers can think of some other better way to do it for next time. More fun, more interesting, no camping or arguing over camping item etc.
Overall the warren is great.I and my guildmates alllove static content. I got some idea too, maybe you could make some puzzles which requires the players to go out of the dungeon to do something, then need to go back again to solve it. Or giving specific profession rewards for finishing the dungeon, like +skill ring or attachment.
On bria we just farm keys, bout 40-60 to go everywhere in the warren lol
talk to slave get ley, put key in backpack, rinse and repeat.
Confirming extensive problems with The Warren. The first day I was in there I only needed one key and I went in and out of the building several times. I got what I went for, except that the second mission involving the control rods and drums is busted. The second day I was in there, I suddenly had the key problem where it wanted the Main Entry Gatekey for every section of the dungeon I moved into. Obviously that makes it utterly impossible to stay in there. So I'm waiting for a fix on this before I can continue and get the second goal.
I would also say that there is a flaw here in terms of Star Warsiness. The Warren is interesting, but in some ways it exaggerates rather than corrects the ways in which SWG is not especially Star Warsy--it feels like a dungeon created on the model of other MMOG dungeons, created in part to use existing creature models. It doesn't feel like something you could have read about in the EU novels or seen in the films. It's good content but not good *Star Wars* content. So that's good as far as it goes but it's not good *enough*, a step in a right direction but not the most urgent steps that we need.
Last night I ran the Warren with a group of about 8 people. We only needed one key (thankfully!). I was pleased that for the most part, the experience was bug free! The only issue is the aforementioned letter for the badge. Thankfully, it appears this will be fixed in the next patch.
Otherwise though, a great job! Only problem is if you don't run it from start-finish yourself, you can get a bit confused. e.g., You can start collecting evidence before you're told you need to collect evidence!
Haven't bothered to check it out yet ... with buffs & stats so thoroughly hosed, not much point in taking on anything challenging ...
Fix the basic, basic, basic underpinnings of the game, then I'll go worry about the fluff.
Here are my thoughts. I've not completed the Warren but these are my initial impressions.
- Navigation. The overhead map, how it currently works, is useless because of the multiple levels of the Warrent. I would like to suggest that the overhead map only show the current level you are on. I wouldn't be surprised if this would require some major rework (I'm guessing) but it would be a very beneficial feature.
- Giveus an option to view one level at a time on the map. The reason for this is that I was with a group and we got seperated.I could see they were close to me but I did not realize that they were on a different level.
- Make it easier to get the letter of compassion. When I reached the room with the skeleton corpse, players where camping it just so that they could get the letter. Either increase the spawn time or make it so that a player automatically gets the letter if they open the corpse.
- Crowd control. Limit the number of groups that can access the Warren. Ideally, an instance of the Warren would be created for each group but I have a feeling this would be difficult to do. Instead, deny access to the Warren until a group has finished the quest.
- Should healing be allowed? Not really a suggestion but a question if this was intended. I forgot to heal my wounds, including secondary ones, and tried to do so while inside the warren but could not. I pulleda surgicaldroid out and found out I wasn't allowed to. Maybe it should be left the way it is so that it's more challenging to complete the Warren.
Overall I enjoyed the Warren and I hope to see more soon.
It did remind me about the current debate regarding rewards. Getting a badge is nice but I doubt that many players will be content with obtaining a badge. While it does give bragging rights, it lacks immediate and satisfying gratification for players who are used to and want rare items/loot. I would argue that a flaming sword would be more valued than a badge because of its visibility.
Case in point: Maurauder armor. Composite armor and faction armor have better resistances than Maurauder armor. Yet, Maurauder armor is highly sought after because it's unique and highly visible. I understand the desire to not undermine crafters and I would suggest that ways be found for crafters to be involved in creating items that could not normally be obtained. Krayt scales are a step in the right direction. I would add color and new schematics to the formula.
I want to end my post by reiterating that this type of content is welcomed and by saying thank you to the devs. Thank you.
Can somebody give me the cords? Is this the dungeon that is behind the waterfall that is behind the sith temple?
thanks
