The worst part is, no matter how many people in the community feel this is a bad idea, the development team is going to go ahead with schedule.

They are killing the game.

There are a lot of statements on this 2000+ combined post, but a lot of questions also. This is really upsetting the community here and we could sure use some interaction from you guys. You guys should be all over the boards this weekend helping us understand.

Please...

I don't buy the arguement that the "Core game" chould be fixed before JTL comes out. JTL was supposed to be in the core game. so were Player cities, mounts and vehicles. Not only have we been paying for a buggy game, but we have been paying for a buggy game that is only half complete!

No one really cares if you buy the arguement or not you blew all credibility when you opened your mouth and stated that JTL was to be originally part of the core game, next time do a little research and you wont come off looking like a noob.

Sorry but thems the facts

Sorry but it may be you who needs to do a little more research. In the very early days it was in fact planned to launch the game with space content. I remember very well that the announcement that space would be added in an expansion was not very well received by the community.

Think again buddy...I have been around a while. Here's a link to Gamespys review of the game from E3 2002 for ya...

http://archive.gamespy.com/e32002/pc/swg/

At the end of the review on page 2 is the following...

How soon before we get to play? Well, if you're lucky enough to be selected for the beta at StarWarsGalaxies.com, you might be able to try the game out as early as July 15th, when a beta test goes live. After the developers have put the game through its paces, assuming all goes well, the game could be launched as early as December 2002. An expansion pack, allowing you to fly around in your own spaceships from planet to planet, will follow a few months after.

There was also video footage showing the game running on a Geforce 3 (The card of choice at the time) and a quick look at the EXPANSION of an x-wing flying over a star destroyer.

Whats that.....sorry I cant understand you...oh that's why, it seems your foot is firmly entrenched in your mouth.

If this is going to work out there needs to be a whole lot more communication between the developers and the players.

Like developers actually wasting some of their time going into threads and answering.

There needs to be clear and non-ambiguous answers to questions like "do poison resistances work, and if yes then how?"

there needs to be a very short time between the small "quick patches" I'm talkin like one per week... just a few things here and a few things there... but really... do some intense quickpatches of broken and not-working things for a month or two without bothering to do any content or fixes of utterly meaningless things like typos and the community will regain some confidence in the developers.

Then they can go on ignoring things and working on the blasted space expansion for as long as they like.

However... I will not purchase the space expansion untill the combat re-balance has gone live... and I suggest those that remains faithfull to the game but still feel slightly trodden upon by this latest turn of events do the same.

Just curious how people could play this game for over a year? I've been playing almost a month now, and its easy to tell this game is broken, almost beyond repair. Only thing keeping me in it at the moment is roleplaying. So i figure that should hold me over till Guildwars and WoW comes out. Wait EQ2 is coming out soon to!! Oh wait same company that made this failure, so think i'll save my money then buy a game taht will just be a waste of time. JTL?? ah no thankgs, fix your current game first before you make us waste any more of our money. Though I am betting that we will get our combat balance ... in another expansion that you will want us to cough out another 30-50 bucks for.

Would be really neat and satisfying to have a system like this.

Not me, that's for sure. I've played it for two months and you cannot get anywhere in this game without grinding. Be it crafting or combat experience. At least the buffing expediates the combat experience. I'm trying to honestly assume the title of Master Weaponsmith and Master Smuggler. The game is broken in so many ways.

I'm on City of Herose now. I'm on the Protector server as Blue Infinite. I'm not that far along and I want to make a second character, so if anyone'd have me, pm me here.

Thanks.

As I posted on the last page of the thread you just deleted.

You had over ONE THOUSAND ACCOUNT CANCELLATIONS on that thread alone within 24 HOURS.

TH, Devs, SOE you need to FIX THIS and fix it FAST.

This isn't going to go away just cause of the week-end. Heck, the weekend players are JUST NOW finding out about this and many of them will be quitting too.

Also, at least 20 people I know have already sent copies of your CB thread to every online gaming mag and showed how SOE is MORE interested in getting future profits rather than maintaining a playable game for those already paying for it.

WE PAID for a game that is BROKEN TODAY!

and we DEMAND it be fixed TODAY! NOT 6 months down the damn road!!!!!!!!!!!

WHY should we PAY money to sit around and do NOTHING for 6 MONTHS until basic COMBAT is fixed?

We were assured by YOU THthat the core game would not suffer as a consequence to the work being done on JTL

We have BEEN LIED TOO several times by YOU TH specifically when you said DEVS were NOT being pulled from Daily SWG maintaince and put on JTL but yet you have just told us about needing to put the whole team back together and so on.

SOE SHOULD HAVE HIRED A SECOND DEV TEAM TO DO JTL and left the original devs on SWG to do revamps, fixs and content.

Now, we have FLOODED the forums on GCW and professions with QUICK FIXS that the Devs can do QUICK AND EASILY and VERY SOON that MAY save this game for all of us.

PLEASE go check them out.

Also, you THINK you are leaving for the wekend? Think again, IF we do not see RED NAMES on these boards responding to OUR quick fix ideas and responses TODAY, TOMORROW and SUNDAY, by Monday this game will officially be DEAD.

WE WANT TO SAVE THIS GAME!

But short of HACKING in and coding it ourselves we have done eevrything else FOR YOU!!!!!!!

JUST READ our IDEAS on GCW and the PRofessions board. Spend a few hours and by Monday we can have QUICK FIXS LIVE that will make ALOT of people happy.

yes, JtL will be cool. no, this does not entitle it to take precedence over fixing the current product so that it works as intended. in all the dev team communications, it seems that The Development Schedule is this big immutable force that cannot be altered - i'd suggest taking a long look at this, as the dev team clearly have a very serious situation on their hands. fact of the matter is that even if profit *is* what is driving these decisions, there is more money to be made by retaining customers than by flogging one-off expansion packs, and this is where there seems to be a certain blindness on the part of SOE. sure, it'd mean putting JtL on the backburner for a little while, but it'll still be there when you get back to it. we might not.

The truly sad thing is that many of us who have been here from the beginning have a long history of giving the dev's the so-called "benefit of the doubt". Some of the 'trolls'in this thread refer tosuch actionas stupidity (as they somehow think that they posses clairvoyance enough to avoid all of these problems), but I see it differently. Many of us have offered up months and months of dedicated loyalty, hoping, update after update, that our continued support would helpguide the development team in the right direction. Those of us who wanted this game to succeedhad no problems with waiting a full year for fixes tothe hundreds of basic gameplay problems, especially after being told, repeatedly, that such fixes were 'in the works', and 'being worked on', and 'just around the corner'. Because of our loyalty and the seemingly newfound ideology of the dev team, a lot of us were at least curious about the JTL expansion.

After seeing this announcement, however, and coming to the realization that the dev's have absolutely no intention of fixing the ground game before shipping a new expansion, I can honestly say that many of us 'old-timers', as it were, have finally reached our limit. Personally, I refuse to even look at the JTL expansion box, much less buy it, and I refuse to renew my subscription until the game is fixed. Putting off these core game changes yet another 8 -10 months is just absurd, and has worked only to lower any potential sales of the JTL expansion SOE might have anticipated.

WIthout a doubt, this is probably just a 'calculated loss' on their part, their hope being that future sales of their new product will outweigh the revenue cuts they're receiving now. But to treat their oldest customer basein this fashion is just reprehensible. As such,I (and several RL friends) willbe boycotting all SOE products from here on out. In my view, this gamble of theirs hasseriously back-fired.

Here's the hope I now have since I do love this game:

Reason for no response this weekend: Huge meetings discussing changing it back and reworking the schedule to fit the mass communities view.

Great Expectations
There are great expectations in the community for the upcoming Combat Balance and the Galactic Civil War revamp. These announced upcoming major features are pivotal to making the Galaxies experience more of a Star Wars experience. To deliver on these major features, we will need the full development team and re-assembling the team isn’t going to happen until after the upcoming Jump to Lightspeed expansion is shipped.

Yeah, well.

A lot of people across the forums have been complaining for a long time about combat and/or GCW elements that are fundamentally broken from day one. At least from the last six to eight months or so there had been some 'light at the end of the tunnel' for a lot of us, even those, like myself, that aren't diehard PvPers.. combat across the spectrum is broken. In fact many points were raised by people, to be put off repeatedly with 'wait for the combat rebalance'.

It seems to me that it should be obvious that, given the complexity of the changes that were required, -a lot- of effort would be needed. You guys should have some idea of this, you designed the game in the first place. -We-, the playerbase, operated under a similar assumption; we don't have your insight into the issues. And now you rather suddenly decide it's a 'big job' that has to be put off. What are we supposed to think?

All I can really say is that I'm very disappointed, though hardly surprised. It is consistent with the lack of downward communication demonstrated in the past. I would hate to think that you guys didn't really know what you were going to do until the last minute, finding your GATT chart or whatever chock full of critical path elements impossible to fix between now and Pub 11.

I don't know about other people, but I would have preferred a plan from you guys that said something like: "Man, this is going to be a lot of work, but we've got Jedi and JTLS aready plotted out and we've got to do those first or we'll really be SOL, and that's gonna take a while" rather than getting ambushed like this. That's something I can easily deal with.
