Thread: ID#2: Two Changes to Bazaars and Vendors

Let me follow this up with a third idea

Let merchants "rent" vendors. If you set a cap at 150, fine. But don't make every crafter have to become a master merchant to display all their wares. Let merchants give access permission to put things up for sale on their vendors for a set cost, say a minimum of 10% and up to 50%. This way, an armor smith can have a merchant set up extra vendors wherever the armor smith wants. The armor smith can put things up, set prices and sell through that vendor. The merchant gets his cut.

Asking a merchant to go through hundreds of items other people want to sell and manipulate each of them individually is ridiculous.

Most Crafting professions require Artisan skills and getting Vendors does not require a whole lot of extra skill points. Bio-Engineering, however, requires Scout Skills and Organic Chem IV. Since my BE cannot place a vendor, raising the bazaar limits will be very helpful, at least for selling Tissues, Pet Stims, and Pet Vitality Packs. (Off topic, a bit, but related to this post: BEs need an easier way to get a vendor. I suggest +1 Vendor somewhere in the BE skill tree. Or, perhaps at Org Chem IV.)

Couldn't much of this be easily solved just by adding a quantity column? If there are 25 factory identical pieces of leg armor, instead of listing the same thing 25 times as the current system does, just list it once and say there are 25 available. Do this in the database as well. 1 row in the database while the items are on the vendor, and only 1 row on the vendor. This would allow 100 unique items on a page, which would be much easier to navigate.

Wow, it looks like this is even more unpopular than the CH nerfs...oh...wait! You didn't nerf them...you just made it more difficult for the dabblers...uh...well, that didn't exactly turn out well did it?

Just a thought...while reading thru all the pages...most folks who are against the changes are crafters, those who don't care or think its great...are consumers. The consumers, however, don't realize how difficult it is going to be for them to actually get the stuff they want and pretty soon we'll be hearing cries of...you never have your vendor stocked...well...doh.

I guess you have gotten the drift by now Trueheart...at least I hope so. You'll make a huge number of folks very unhappy with these changes...and if we don't have some warning...those unhappy folks are going to walk out of your game world...which btw, contrary to what is in the newsletter, I do not believe is gaining momentum, but rather dwindling.

If you ever create a new character, look at the server load...most of them are light, even at prime time. Can SOE really afford to lose more customers...and if they do what is the future of SWG? Its sort of a worry of mine, since I have spent time and effort to build characters in this game.

Bridget

PS...instead of NERFING...try building. Try making things better, not worse...like...isn't it about time that you guys gave us more schematics to put more items on our vendors that you're going to nerf?

whoa...I'm tired...that's a run on. LOL

I have a thought that would be VERY nice for the large multi planet buisness people. Not sure if this is way off topic or the wrong thread or even if it was covered already but here it is.

I want to put a vendor on 5 different planets and they each sell the same thing. It would be kinda cool if you could have the option to stock ONLY one vendor and have all the other vendors (on the different planets) link to the one you stock so you only have to stock one vendor. This would be VERY nice. You would not have to run to every planet stocking them all. Just have to OVER stock one and they will be all set.

I want a new vendor type:

iNerf-Bot 2084

Features of the new Nerf-Bot 2084:

1. No ad barking

2. Unable to register on the planetary map

3. Destroys every other item you put on it

4. Item limit of 10

5. Total value of sales limit of 1000

6. Item "auctions" last for 2 hours, not this stupid 30 day stuff

7. Any pre-nerf colored items you put on it will have the colors removed

8. Takes 3 hours to initialize

9. Coolest 3D Model in the game.

This would solve all your database problems.

This would not work for many reasons... The bazzar does all that and far better....

Im okay with raising the limits of the bazaar, but im not sure it will help lower end players. I suspect that things being sold at the 3k range will increase. However, perhaps some things that currently sell for more than 6k but close to it may find a home on the bazzar in the 6k range. I suggest that you implement on the test server and pay close attention to what happens.

I am against putting a cap on vendors. I suspect that vendors will not lower the amount of products they make and will potentially suffer annoyances by having to restock their vendors many more times. This would bring into an issue with storage. Crafters may find themselves needing more storage space and have to chose to sacrifice lots spent on harvestors and such for another house.

The repurcussions and advantages of these changes will be more apparent over time and short term discussion and observation may not be significant to sway the issue either way.

If your going to change something... give me a way to find what I want on a vendor OR the bazaar. Now, I don't even use them because if there is more than 25 items on them or more than one kind of thing (ALWAYS on the bazzar) it's impossible to find anything!

Give me SORT OPTIONS!!! Let me RESIZE Item Name/Type/Description fields!!! Give me a reasonable search option!!! I know searching text fields is database taxing, you could at least let me search by item type!! (has GOT to be a coded ID of some kind!! Right? Right!?) Come on,I know you guys have heard of Unique Indexes, keys, etc...

You know how much easier it would be to find a Laser Rifle in a sea of 100 Rifles instead of a Sea of 5000 Weapons!!!

If all else fails, you might also want to think about dividing your databaseservers into one database server for each Galaxy, rather than one server with a ton of databases on it, one for each Galaxy. (Surely you don't do this, but....) You've got to do something. You guys are having more database problems in the first six months than the last two MMORPG's I've played had in the first 3 years. Yes, it's possible that this game is just that much more popular, but if that's the case you need to spend the money to keep it that way. That's just good business sense.

Will we ever see bazaar vendors in player cities? Or will player cities have to support their commerce through local vendors there?

There is a sort option. And you can resize all the fields. And there's a Next Item button to go to the next page too. No worries. Lots and lots of people don't know those things are there. I have to explain to people all the time about the next items button on my vendors. This game is rife with undocumented features.

Sorting: Go to the panel at the left. Click on the yellow folder next to the name of the type of item you are searching for. A submenu will open. Then click on the submenu item type you are looking for. Then go to the main screen and click on one of the tabs at the top to sort by whichever field best suits your needs. And maybe someday they will fix the items that are not sorted into their correct categories too.

Resize Tabs on main screen: Hover your cursor inbetween the spaces between the tabs. Slide left or right to resize. Once you exit the bazaar or vendor, it will reset to default and you will need to resize the fields again.

Next Items Button: If there are more than 100 items (and there always is on the bazaar) go to the bottomright of the screen and click the Next Items Button. Then on each subsequent screen you will see a Previous page or next page button.

Each page can be sorted by any field, and any field can be resized.
