I think garages should be placed along the main road in/out of town or by the starport.

One Question - Why Bother?
if you want to encourage growth in the economy make do not give player city grages, allow for vehicles to perish and either droids to repair them (Heck finally a use for a repair droid or droid witha repair module and include the credit cost and or materials needed to repair them) or just let them burn up encouraging continual purchase and renewel of vehicles and the stimulation of the economy. Otherwise like anythging else it is a stale comodity that will sell initially but fetter off once everyone has one.

There are two types of garages: survival and monetary. Survival would be outpost garages that creators of an outpost would be insane not to create to fix THEIR OWN vehicles, and monetary, the ones that exist solely to bleed off the fat of the land.
Lok/Endor/etc would have only survival garages.
Tat/Corellia/etc would have both, one assumes.
I'd LOVE (love!) to come across a lone pit stop garage when tooling about on Tatooine with some guy sitting in a chair, happy to tell me stories and/or deliver small quests. How quaint is that? Spread about three of those per standard planet, and you've just added some character to SWG!

There's also a bug that allows you to pay for a repair without receiving it.

Place them in every city that has a spaceport. And closest to the startport you can.

There needs to be one in Nyn's on Lok. It fits with the atomosphere of it being a smuggler outpost and all.

From what I have seen, there are plenty of garages... but they are WAY too hard to find.
My suggestion... add garage to the /find command.

Easy and simple, let the mayor of every player city, build a garage and problem solve, becuase the problem is not fiding them, is to travel to them, for exmaple, lets say you are in jabbas palace and your bike gets attack but its not yet dissable and the only two garage in tatooine are in mos espa and mos ethna, you have to travel to anchorhead or bestine, wait for 7 min or more till the shuttle arrive for then get into espa or ethna and stat looking for the garage, probably by the time you hit the garage your bike is dissable.

1. Player Garages. They'd either require a droid or yourself being there so the vehicle can be fixed. And you could decide how large a structure you'd want (small=2lots,one vehicle; medium=3lots, two vehicles; large=4lots,has a "spare parts" backyard). As a role-player I'd like to see more "real" buildings with you actually being at the place (or your droid). Let's say I want to "work" as a Chef but don't really want to go master. I still would like to own a cantina-like structure. Cantinas are huge buildings, why can't Chefs have diners?
2. Garages shouldn't be in every city. Might be in larger faction outposts (thinking that factions actually should have vehicles like tanks, ATATs, ATSTs (shouldnt be a droid, it should be a vehicle as there's actually a guy inside driving it) and other vehicular items. (If you'llbe able to fly a spaceshuttle down to surface, choose where to land and such these vehicle garages should also be able to fix these shuttles). Garages should be located near starports (or under them? ramp down, gives chance for shady parking lot businesses)or in a city's industrial district. Role-playing again here. Reason for why there shouldn't be garages everywhere is from a story point of view, not because of the need. Now a NPC (dubbed Vehicle Repairer) or just an artisian with vehicle repair kit/droid would be a diffirent thing.
A side note from a diffirent point of view. Now I don't know if Devs have realised this but there's actually alot of folks wanting to role-play their characters. But these folks are not exactly given the necessary tools to do so. Another group of folks just want to Sims in 3D - that is, decorating their homes or business place. Devs should increase the variety of choices for furniture and build a "tool" (window) that helps you move items around your house. In 3D space too. Combining your house and your business would be nice too. Another thing on player buildings. Why wouldn't you be able to put up a cantina way the heck out there? A weary traveller might be thankful for that cantina up on that mountain. Some RL towns are known to be built around "once-upon-a-time" inns.
Roleplay scene:
"Welcome sir. Please have something to nibble on in the waiting room whilst repairs take place."
Customer nods and walks into a small waiting room where he can find a nice relaxing sofa, hot coffee and some papers to read on the table.
In the meantime the vehicle repair guy walks to a computer and "hits" analyze. Exact amount of damage, what materials is needed for repairs, how long it takesand how much it costs is shown. He goes to let his customer know of the costs and other details. Customer replies: "Repair it all."
The repair guy walks to the computer again and "hits" repair. At this time a droid (or a mechanical arm, or a droid with a mechanical arm) starts up and starts repairing.
The repair guy suddenly realised he forgot his wrench at home. So he runs upstairs (where his home is) and fetches it. The customer is still reading Galactic War News when he returns downstairs.................
Sorry, went a bit off the topic here
