Thread: Developing a Solution for the Faction Base Issue
If the main issue here is using this tactic to destroy bases, why doesn't your average PA with a faction base move all of their houses into a ring around it?
If you place the houses just right, I'll bet you could set up your own no-build zone that was every bit of 100 meters away from the base. Remember, houses have a pretty big footprint. And you don't have to place them edge to edge, you just have to place them so that there isn't enough room between them for another house.
Restricting the solution to this issue to anything that only applies to private structures or structures with fees won't work as long as houses have banned-player lists. And getting rid of banned-player lists will have an even bigger effect on merchants than getting rid of access fees will.
That being said, yes, I have one building in my compound that has a 50,000 credit access fee. I keep it public so I can use backpacks to sort my storage stuff. I keep the fee at 50,000 credits so that if somebody of the other faction catches me while TEF'ed from running some missions, I have some chance of getting away - or at least of charging him more than enough to cover my insurance and cloning costs. If I were overt and the kind of person who goes around picking fights, I can see why someone would have a problem with that, but right now I'll use it for self defense with no regrets at all.
THUNDERHEART, please, whatever the fix that goes in can we have a TEF Indicator, I dont mind if it last 5 mins or 5 hours just as long as we have somesymbol on the HuDas to why were getting shot at.
Thankyou
Please do not allow for a safe haven such as houses to be eliminated from sheltering ppl that are low on combat skills. Its bad enough that doctors and artisans get ganked by uber BH and multiple Imperial players around Anchorhead just running missions while the rebels are overt. The overt status allows for faction pet support which now it totally necessary since grouped factional missions are so difficult. If I (being a doctor am ganked by an Imperial while concentrating on attacking a mission I would need my house to offer some sort of shelter until this nasty player go away. LOW LEVEL COMBATENTS NEED A PLACE TO RUN TOO! Rebels must use guerilla tactics on Tatooine since the only city of any strength for rebels is only Anchorhead. We need a place to run and hide since rebels are so outmatched on Tatooine. If my only safe haven kicks me out when I try to defend myself from Imperial attack then where is a rebel safe on Tatooine? I'm already using my slot points for the house when also be penalized to not be allowed to use my house as a place of shelter from ruthless Imperial stalkers. Seriously we need some sort of shelter to be able to not be ABSOLUTELY killed every time we are attacked. In the wee hours of the evening it is not possible to get aid from other players. If my house is surrounded by nasty Imperials bent on killing me then let them wait! If they want blood so bad they should have to use their skills to stalk non PvP players and not mercilessly kill ever Rebel they attack in groups because the rebels have no shelter to run too!

i think i have experienced the lowest of the low...group of rebels are set up near the imperial outpost on lok. they come out, fight, run inside...we burn them, we destroy them, they just come back and fight based on the group TEF. im fine with that...basically, by the time we were done with them, they had mostly black HAM bars...
here is the clincher though. the leader (i think) of a PA called VICE on our server, goes over and starts talking to them...like they are old buds or something...high school friends i believe, and they are both still in high school. then one of the rebels goes "ok man, you can get in now"...and in he goes to heal them all up. then they all sit there throughout the duration of their TEF...so, if a person is TEFed while they are in a locked house, are you going to punt them out? if so, you are going to have to find a better ejection method, cause i dont think we could attack a person that was sitting under the house.
I have an even better solution...how about the Double Agent/Spy Faction Class? I dream of the day when I can (even though nevervisible in the movies or this game but always a mention of it!) be a double agent and can pass information to a side I choose. Wouldn't it be cool to 'seen' as an imp to imps and a rebel to rebels? Earn badges on both sides (this would double the content)? Backstab friendlies in their hour of need? Possibly receive faction perks from both sides? Spy on factions/PAs undetected? Be able to declare overt and suffer the same consequences of whatever side your currently on?
Didn't the rebels constantly receive info about the Death Star from sympathizers or spies? Major underlying part of the movies...why not the game?
If you need any other brilliant ideas you can call me at 555-...... (j/k) Keep up the good work!
The main problem I have is that these houses stay in my player city.
I have a PA of 130+ active members.
We spent a lot of time on our city and bases for them to come and ruin it all.
There are several PA halls around.
They seem to have found an exploit where they could shoot from the walls, and not be targeted.
If one does come out, and we kill him, the master doctor just drags him into the house.
This happens several times a day on Scylla.
I think if you're overt or covert and in a house, the opposing faction should be able to enter it.
Some Imp outside AH kept shooting people then running into a house.
I found the soltution was to go back to AH, go Overt and wait by the house for him to run back after hitting a Rebel player. I then set fire to him and DB'd him. Seemed to work, I didnt see him again that day.
Yes I have seen this tactic as we have 3 faction bases by a allied PA in our town. The imps placed a private house outside the biggest and proceed to FARM faction points by killing the NPCS and destroy turrets by lobbing grenades from the house steps. Whenever they get targeted they run back to the safety of the house.
Solution:
IF player has TEF and enters Structure, the structure becomes public. As only ppl on the Admin list can actually pick up stuff there is no chance for theft. Also fix it so the stucturs ban list does not work when it is set to public..this will prevent players from putting houses down and then adding to the ban list faction
imperial or rebel) and Guild
pa name)
In addition fix the Faction scanners so they work thru walls (especially thos of the faction HQ's). The same is to be done with dish towers, so their covert faction scanners work thru walls too.
The tactic we have been seeing is where a small grp of players are inside the private house. One or 2 being a medic who can drag their members back into the structure and rez/revive any member of their grp. since the drag command is about 15 meters the medics never have to leave the private structure and thus no one can ever target them to shoot them as they have no Line of sight.
This results in players simply popping out of the house and using their specials (such as commando using flamecone2) and hit everything, they get incapped/Deathblowed and the medic just drags them back in for a quick rez and the player repeats the process till everything is dead.
another tactic is where 2 commando's do this. One pops out of the house and gains aggro on the entire HQ force and goes back inside...while inside the HQ defense force is trying in vain to shoot at the commando. The 2nd Commando pops out with no risk and AE's everything in sight and also goes back into the house, waiting for everything to die to the fire bleeds.
Another tactic is where they can place a private stucture within 64 meters of a Detachment HQ and can pop out one at a time and shoot the turrets gaining the aggro so the next person can pop out and shoot the turrets, all this while the medic heals up the person hit by the turrets....
None of these tactics are a valid tactic, but are pure and simple exploits.
The non enter a private house when tefed is not enough, i can make my house public, place it near the base i'm attacking come with my friends on night or morning when there aren't enough defenders ans start may griefing plan of destroy the enemy turrets one by one just shooting at them and hidinng in the house for healing. Even if the house is private that can be done, just ply the house for break LOS on the turret and you are coverd behind the house and you can grief bese owners.
I have alreday heard of ppl doing so for destroy as much turrets they can before they acctualy start the real attack. The solution for that is simple, not allow to construct not factional buildings (ie houses harvester or factories)in a 200-400 mt radius from the bases, but let place other factional installations (ie. more bases, minefields, turrets) near other bases of the same faction.
Another issue i want to make your attention to is that some times even if you have a green zone for the base placement the system don't let you place your base, maybe couse there are too many trees or some rock in the square, please make so if there are some minor terrain constraint like that make appear a window that ask you to pay a fee for remove the obstacles to the placement of your installation, we are placing military structures, do you think that the empire will not place a base in one place couse there is a rock or a small hole in the terrain?
Find a large enough are for place a base is a pain in some planets, find a one larger enough for place more than one base and construct a near city for the base users it's really hard.
Without reading the full thread (sorry):
Why not just make it impossible for players of an one faction to place houses within 500-1000 meters of an active enemy faction base?
This would also give the appearance of some form of territorial control.
If an enemy house is already present and someone places their faction base close to it, that would just have to be their problem then, out of fairness to the people who were there first.
Perhaps add faction symbols in front of house titles the same way you have them on harvesters, generators and factions for people to realize its an enemy house before placing their faction base close to one.
