Thread: The Path of the Jedi: Reckoning of Effort

I will admit I have not been playing as much as I used to. I have been a player since July/2003. I have always been a huge fan of Star Wars and have remained hopeful for thisgame through thick and thin.Nevertheless, I never hologrinded because despite the amount I always wanted to be a Jedi, I did not believe a game should feel like a chore. I have always been in the medical profession and I am even known as "Doc" among my peers, to drop that and pursue Squad Leader as my holocron directed seemed futile; especially if I would have to master doctor all over again (When I unlocked a second character Jedi).

I think about the reasons I would like to become a Jedi and I suppose it boils down to power. In my mind, there's not many science-fictions conflicts more instensely entertaining than to see opposite powers of equal deviation fighting each other. That is why combat balance had been so important. People enjoy PvP, but more so when they feel they have a sporting chance. When they are both equally powerful in different abilities. The problem was, as we all know, certain professions/hybrids became more powerful than others. There was no balance in the system. I had addressed the need for counter-defense for area poisons way way back when. If there is no balance, certains professions will always have an advantage in combat, discouraging other players to even participate. Finally, area poison and disease stims are created...but in my mind a little too late. Maybe it's me, but the energy to PvP just seems tohave diminished over time.

Regardless, over the past several patches I have seen a lot of great ideas. I practically jumped for joy when I heard the jedi-unlocking system was going quest-based. Now, I am left again with that familiar feeling of helplessness. I look forward to Lightspeed because I will feel I have more control over my abilities and destiny.

I understand the Devs' concerns about limiting the amount of Jedi in the game; I don't believe they simply just never considered placing additional villages. Nevertheless, I do not believe in nerfing Jedi. The journey to achieve such power should be long and merited, however, it needs to be defined. Can we please dispense with all the mystery?

In response to many individuals concerns of having too many arrogant and poorly named Jedi, that just goes to show how unimportant continuity really is in this game. I mean seriously, how vital is it we're true to the history of the Star Wars Universe? I care about entertainment, having good friends, and an ability to become more powerful with effort and determination. Is it effort and determination to simply have mastered 32 professions? Yes, I believe so. But does it make much sense to master all these when the required amount we actually needis less than 1/6 the total? In my opinion, that is not only hard work (and kudos to those who have achieved) but boring, tediously redundant, and pointless.

I mean if I put in the effort to master 32 professions whereas others achieve 8 and we both receive the same reward, something does not seem right. I mean heck, after all that work, I would want to be ALL POWERFUL, I should have the ability to target someone in PvP and they fall over dead.

Well, all I am asking is that development would please reconsider vaguely answering some of these questions posed by some of the mature, humble, and understanding veterans on these forums. We have been there for you in the past and stood by you on countless occasions. We deserve to know what we do now besides simply waiting. Thank you for your time. Please do not be too discouraged with the many negatives responses from some of the community. We All know you guys are trying and appreciate your efforts. The complaining does at least show there still remains a sense of hope for the game; if there weren't complaints, I would be concerned.

What will you conformists say when most of us are here 2 days later with no old man? Wait another 3 days? Wait a week? Wait a month? Wait a yeah?

Nuts to that.

It's not about being a conformist at all, but at least give the first 3 days (asTH said)a chance. We're only in the middle of day 2 for pity's sake. Quit trying to crucify them beforethat time.

If they had provided information at least 24 hours before Patch 10 went live, most of this could've been avoided. But they didn't. They raised all our expectations and are now telling us to wait. I can and will bust them down for this farce.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: We were promised new content. I am glowy, I am pre patch glowy. I qualify. I should not be waiting in the wilderness like an idiot for the dirty old man to give me that content some day.

Touche, and point taken. I too was on for hours last night running missions and waiting for the old man. A little heads up would have been beneficial just so I would have that expectation, but I still would have been on. Just to see.

I have mastered 27 professions.. in the system before pub 10 there was 8 silent professions.
What if after doing my 4 holocron professions i did not master any of the other 4... this same problem must be atleast at thousands of other people too.. i would rather master the 5 professions that i havent done , than to do in the new system 4 FS branches.. think about this...
I would need to master some professions i ALLREADY did and to get HUGE AMOUNTS of Force exp.

This is not FAIR to us who did 4 holocron and 17 - 24 OTHER PROFESSIONS
to get back to the point where we started to seek out the silent professions !!

If some of us havent been any lucky and with 28 profession the last remaining 4 professions would have been the silent think about it.. !

HE would be in the same situation like someone who only grinded the ones the holocron told !!!!!!

AN ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF..
sorry about my complain but i ABSOLUTELY dont think this is fair.

OK, its starting to seem that the "gates" / "groups" / "virtual valves" are different for each server. Is that the case?

That would explain why we can't get a uniform answer to 70 pages of posts. Its relative to your server population.

Vettego - thanks for the info on Farstar. Hang in there everyone. If you were "glowy" when pub 10 went live, it appears that you will in fact be visited.

Since there is a large wave of players that will be going through the system, we are going to be monitoring traffic daily as players start and finish the Force Sensitive quests. When enough people have completed their path, we will open it up the village to the next group. Groups 1 – 4 will qualify for a visit when the village traffic has died down. Of course, if you qualify for the visit under the new system, you will automatically be granted a visit from the old man.

Read that again. Then again. After that, once more.

What this means:
The traffic is measured DAILY. This means that you will have to wait a week (at most) if you are in the latter groups. The quests will be completed by most people in a few days. You're not going to have to wait as group 1 goes through the ENTIRE village in all four phases, you're going to wait as people finish the quests for the current particular Village phase. If you can't wait 4 days to go to the village, than go ahead and quit. Go ahead and try to find another MMO game that "listens to it's customers" by allowing them to become all powerful immediately.

Sheesh.

People need to calm down over this. Everyone is crying about how they can't make Jedi today. You know what? Too bad. You think you deserve it because you're paying $15 a month? Well, I pay the same amount and i'm a mid-range Pistoleer. I'm not crying that I haven't gotten 4/4/4/4 in that or in Medic (yet). It's part of the game. But all the wannabe jedis here (not the people playing mind you, i know that you are not the majority of future jedi players) are whining because they can't become the uber jedi in days. Instead they're going to have to work for it. You'll have to play the game as intended. Mastering your class should take time. It shouldn't be obtainable in days, or hours. If you had to take a month in order to get jedi, should you be upset? No, you should be able to say in the future "yeah, I got jedi through hard work and determination". Just like any class should be able to say the same.

The way the game works now is broken. If you want to see what SWG should be, try getting a group of unbuffed people and doing missions. Watch the medic frantically run back and forth while healing, as TKNs attack in the front lines and ranged classes sit back and support. It's fun, believe me. But instead of that, we have 2600 buffs, people tumbling in the med center (which i refuse to use, even though i'm going for CM), and the powerlevel grind. Now we have jedi who are going to have to wait a few days before they can start the village who are already upset that they aren't getting credit for randomly grinding professions. And of course, people are already saying the threat they use most often on these boards: "that's it, i'm cancelling my account!!!1!"

Look, I know some of you did the grind in order to better yourselves for this. I can't say i understand why you did. Content like this doesn't come every day. The village looks to be one of the cooler pieces in the game, and you all want to skip it?

Ok I know I am post #500,000,000 on the pub 10 jedi stuff.

noone will read this but....

CAN'T SOMEONE TELL US WHAT THE ACTUAL TIMEFRAME [IN REAL TIME] IS FROM THE MINUTE YOU ARE A GLOWY TO THE APPEARENCE OF THE OLD MAN. IS IT 1-2 DAYS NO MATTER WHAT YOUR HOLOGRIND STATUS ONCE YOU ARE GLOWY OR IS IT 3 WEEKS FOR GROUP 1, 6 WEEKS FOR GROUP 2, 9 WEEKS FOR GROUP 3 AND 11 WEEKS FOR GROUP 4? wOULD THEY REALLY REWARD THOSE OF US WHO ROLEPLAYED A PROFESSION AND HELPED OUR FELLOW PLAYERS WITH BUFFS OR MOUNTS OR WEAPONS OR ARMOR ETC... WITH AN 11 WEEK WAIT UNTIL WE CAN BEGIN OUR JEDI QUESTS??
HOW WILL YOU KNOW WHAT GROUP YOU ARE IN BEFORE YOU GET TO THE VILLAGE? MOST OF US HAVE MASTER A FEW PROFESSIONS EVEN IF WE DID NTO HOLOGRIND AND SO WE DO NOT KNOW IF WE HAVE MASTERED SOME OF OUR REQUIRED HOLO PROFESSIONS OR NOT.

my real rant is how the busy working adult players who only have a limited amount of playing time are being left in the cold. I couldn't hologrind because I only get 2 hours a night to play and I never would have been able to grind out 32 professions in the amount of time I have to play. I hate powergaming because it causes developers to put in time sinks to slow down the powerlevelers at the expense of us all. I play to have fun and I have been a mch for a year, i want to be a jedi I do not mind waiting my turn to get it but is it fair to make everyone who did not hologrind be put at the back of the line. i was exploring and doing quests instead of mindlessly grinding droid engineer or squad leader [the only holo profession i know i had to complete and I could not stand it and never finished it]. Isn't exploring and questing what the game is supposed to be about? According to the pub 10 rules exploring and questing only gets you a lottery ticket whereas grinding gets you some of the prizes.

This is just dumb, I have also been playing for a year and I mastered 17 profs with no idea of when I am going to get 'a visit'

Note to devs at this point, if the rumours I hear are true, then it might be worth adding the old man, this would help I am sure.

Hologrinding was such a better system imho

Gave the people who wanted to unlock the chance and the people who didnt want to unlock to do what they wanted to do.

TH, wonder post i am happy the devs finally came clean.

Now on to the criticsm.

OK you admitted that the sercent # of master boxes achieved went from 5 to 8 as more players unlocked jedi. Very good job now I hope being honest and truthful will be a new policy of the devs, because it certainly wasnt in the past. If you wish I can bring up posts by YOU TH that said the formula to unlocking has not changed when it clearly did. I can also bring up posts about the great CH nerf, when you said that master ch's will hardly notice a difference...............

Anyway if i reading your post correctly about the whole group thing. I ground my 4 holo professions and about 9 more so i did a total of 13 or so.At worst case in group 3 or at best case in automatically in. I am going to lean to the side of me being in group 3 with any luck being in group 2.

So are YOUR CUSTOMERS going to be given any sort of time table as to when thid old man will show up? I mean for all that is listed the old man show up the day after JTL goes live.
