Thread: Publish 6 release date...

I think the whole idea is pretty cool, and while I'm covert because I am not good at/don't wish to participate in PvP, I think it's perfectly fair for me to have to make a choice here: keep my sliced weapons/armor/drugs and run the risk or get rid of them and not have to worry about it. I think that coverts *should* run some sort of risk of exposure, it's much more realistic and adds a sense of excitement to the game.
Thanks G for posting this, and I hope that all future publishes are done this way, I'd rather wait and have less bugs/issues to deal with then have the publishes rushed out to meet some date and be full of problems that we the players have to deal with.
One thing I would like to see more of however is more dev response to the larger issues on the boards. While I understand there is not enough hours in the day to respond to every post, there's some posts that are obviously big issues and it would be nice if we were kept less in the dark on what's going on. Lack of information is causing a lot of anxiety among a lot of players in regards to Publish 7 for example, and it would be really nice if we hadsome idea what's happening.
I think you are missing something, but I'm not going to rehash all of my and others previous posts explaining how this is a game and that it's not fair to force some PvEers into PvP while not forcing other PvEers into it. The Devs can and should think of ways of immersing PvE playing rebels in the oppressive Empire without have to resort to forcing them into PvP.
However, I will say the following for those who think it "makes sense" that rebels have "risk of exposure": it should also make sense that covert rebels be able to attack overt imperials (as well as covert imperials attack overt rebels). This would bring more realism to the game, and be more in keeping with continuity. Other than Rebels at bases and with the fleet, those "in the field" did indeed do so covertly, mostly through underground cell networks. None of them ran around waving a flag saying they were with the Alliance; but that didn't keep them from striking Imperial targets while operating "covertly", did it? The element of surprise was their main advantage, not technology--as many Imperial players like to point out.
So, for those of you wanting to talk "making sense" and how covert rebels should be forced into pvp for doing no more than carrying contraband, how about we make it so that covert rebels can attack overt imperials? This "makes sense" realistically, doesn't it?
Of course, I'm sure Imperial players would be against this in practice. Could you imagine the outcry? But I'm also sure they'll continue to refuse to see how forcing coverts into pvp is just as detrimental to gameplay.
The point is that what "makes sense" realistically doesn't always make sense in a game. In a game, players don't have to worry too much about whether they die; or their family; or any other numerous things in real life. Players can focus on combat (or not), and any advantage that they can get, they'll utilize to it's fullest.
This change, if it goes through as described, is indeed going to have a negative impact on the GCW.

My apologizes, I thought I was replying in the other thread started by TH about the crackdown...
Feel free (if you're a sadist :wink

There would be far too many covert TKM's walking up to overt factioned players and simply kd/dizzy/deathblowing.I'm sure it's been thought of, and ruled out. The ability to join in pvp while covert is in, you just have to be in a group to do it.
(sigh)
I wasn't arguing for that to actually be put in. I was making a point that what sense irl doesn't necessarily make sense for a game. Just as allowing coverts to freely attack overts would make sense realistically but be detrimental to gameplay, so will forcing coverts into pvp.

A slightly off topic question, but can someone clarify for me whether or not holocrons are disappearing / being made useless for opening the FS slot in this publish, or whether the holo grind is still going to be the method used until a later publish.
It will not be in this publish. They will be changing the Jedi perma death first and the revamped path will be at least the next publish (publish 7) but probably even later than that. Making a more involving path with quests will take some time to code, so grind away... Just don't take too long.
Here's a quote in case you might have missed it. This was from the main www.starwarsgalaxies.com front page. It is still there.

This process is going to take some time, so it will happen in several phases. The first phase is to make some changes (where possible) to alleviate some short term discomfort with gameplay. The second phase will be to rebuild the Jedi system to be quest-oriented; and toinclude the familiar elements of Force Sensitivity, Jedi-oriented quests, as well as many other elements the developers and the community feel should make up the process of becoming a Jedi. (It should also be noted that players who have put in work towards becoming a Jedi will not lose their effort. Some sort of recognition of players' efforts will be included in the new system.)
The first phase is for short term and those changes will appear in Publish 6.

Lol ok DeQuoseak.......read the last line of what i said.
I did read that line, and while clever, it does not accurately reflect the state of SWG. ![]()
You are not taking into account the multitude of things that do work and the complexity of the game that is shared by no other MMORPGs out there.
This is a very fun game and I love playing it. There have been very few bugs that majorly affect my gameplay.
Thanks guys, good job overall.
My only complain...regressions you brought to the game months ago... and still not fixed. Like the missing extractor animation. Eye candy is important for us, that's why we pay lots of money on graphic cards.
