That would let you move in armies of safe people to the location of a fight, and have them all go overt at once and ambush...
Frankly, Rebels should be able to do that anyway. What's the point of being an underground movement if we have to put on a uniform?
The Imps get huge powerhouse weapons, Rebs get the element of surprise. Sounds like a good trade-off to me.

After watching a battle in Tyrena where 5 Imps walked in and a horde of Rebel's ran out the back to declare and come back in and overrun the Imps, I think that something needs to be done. The big issue wasn't that the Rebels could declare, it was that the 5 Covert Imperials that were in the cantina couldn't do anything to help their Overt buddies.

I agree

As much as I hate to say it and knowing it will come back to bite me in the rear I think rebels should be able to do this. The scruffy terrorists would disguise themselves to ambush an Imperial garrison but I as an Imperial do not feel the need to hide my identity. We all but own the galaxy and soon shall bring order and harmony to all

True but it would bring out the guerilla nature of the rebels. Did you ever see an Overt rebel walking down the dirt road yeling I'M A REBEL KILL ME IMPS! No they would hide and initiate attacks when they felt they had the advantage. Simple tactics and more realistic.
Now we had alot of great ideas too stating you needed an overt "recruiter" in your group to be able to go overt yourself. This would prevent people massing up in towns and jumping every opposing faction since the "recruiter" would be overt and open to attacks. If you manage to kill the recruiter, you have prevented an opposing faction's attack. It would add more danger to PvP and more incentive to participate in it since you wouldn't need to be overt all the time to go to an opposing faction's base. Most people's fears are to travel overt because for a few seconds your open to attacks and you can't defend yourself since your still on the loading screen.
I think some people are thinking that covert means something else. If you are covert it means u support that side. it doesnt mean that you can just get up and fight when you see an overt getting attacked. If you want to be able to support overt members then you should be overt too. Being covert and able to attack is like wearing civilian clothes in a war then attacking the enemy, its cowardly and morally wrong. If you want to be able to fight then you shoudl wear your uniform(being overt). It would also screw up the judging of the battle. A bunch of rebels see 3 or 4 red dots and fancy their chances. Then as they are attacking those 3 or 4 red dots suddenly turn into 10-12. Its better if you see new red dots coming in from far away, like support.
You can always group with the overt imps and attack that way.

Yeah, so?!? THe Vietcong in Vietnam had no problem doing that, as well as a myriad of other rebels that have fought in conflicts throughout the history of our world.
Yeah, So?!? When you killed a Vietcong or I don't remember him having an option to clone and reattack.
This is a game and certain consessions have to made that aren't quite RL.

this is my concern, a different type of camping will evolve.
they stay on top of the recuiter so they are in fireing range of anyone who goes overt. in some locations buildings help but not in all.
I'd like to see 70m as the limit that keeps it out of fireing range so that the tactics of recuiter camping will be even more diffcult.
now about shuttle camping.. no player should be visable to the world (players or AI) untill the world is visable to them. Sorry had to stick that on in.
Well Its meen mentioned severy times in this thread and i fully agree that if an overt member of you faction is under attack you should be able to assist them with out having to run to god knows where to declare just so you can help them out. And by that time its probably too late anyways.
I could be implimented like this.
If an overt faction member of your faction gets attacked, then any covert member of both factions (ie both the attacker and the one attacked) with in weapons fire range (64m)will havelike a 1 minute window to do a /declare command if they choose, and assist whichever faction they may be aligned with. I think the fact that the coverts on both sides will be abel to do this reguardless of which faction attacked first and the 64m/1minute limittations on the /declare optionwill reduce any issues with ambushing and other greif type tactics.
Just a thought, that would make PVP a little more fun, unpredictable, and a little risky.

I cannot even begin to describe how wrong you are.
Covert was included for the express ability of players participating in the GCW with the chance of no PvP.It was also ment for Overts to take a break from PvP when they need it.
TEFs were introduced to allow the PvPrs to "Preserve thier immersion" if we kill a Faction NPC in front of them.
I know, because I was there when they introduced this form of combat when they rejected the Outcasting rules.
Try again.
Hang in there Silver...
I agree with you about needing to be careful with Covert Detectors. I have some folks in my PA that won't go rebel because they are strictly wanting to avoid PvP.
I understand that the GCW is mostlyabout PvP, but would love to see something like a Deep Cover option or a Sympathizer Flagin declaring that let's these folks in while keeping them safe. This is a roleplay tool IMHO that is necessary to relieve these folks minds.
Those that are arguing that anyone going Covert should be exposed to PvP is being one sided... Having options is what makes a game like this great. Neither side is wrong it's just a matter of allowing different playstyles have their fun as well. I don't remember Uncle Owen fighting much, but I'm sure he leaned more towards the Rebels philosophies despite not wanting to get involved.
Sorry if this is a bit off topic.

Yeah that whould be more helpful not havng to run alll the way to the cantina during a raid at the starport.
But, high ranking players should have some recruter abilites like captian can declare overt or/and surface marshal has has all recruter abilites. And so ppl don't use it to ambush doing 30 second limits between each declare or/and not allowed to declare while fighting.
Why not just make certain professions OVERT ONLY. Additionally only another OVERT profession can attack them. Also when entering an unknown area via shuttle you have 1 minute before your character goes overt.
Horrible idea. That would ruin any entertainer/combat hybrids on the server.
I say have it in targetable range e.g. just like /conv on quest NPCs (about 100 meters)
