Thread: Declaring overt
I thought there was a recruitment officer faction pet. Does he not work as a means to become overt?
Hey instead of working on new stuff how about you do something about all the broken stuff and the crap that needs balanced ?
For example being able to shoot people from 80m away ?
Dizzy not letting you stand up or do any posture changes until it wears off ?
Being able to catch someone who is burst running away from you down a hill ?
The fact that there is no way to heal a burn bleed ?
The fact that faction missions taken in Bestine don't spawn most of the time?
The fact that waypoints move every single time you get 250m away from them ?
The fact that when they move they can jump up to 500m+ away from you ?
Are disease's suppose to not cause any damage and just nail you for 1000+ wounds ?
The fact that Rebels are taking out at-st by using burn bleeds and then just hiding in their HQ ?
What about those combat changes that were suppose to go in ? what happened to those ?
Whatever happened to no 1 shot kills ? Happens all the time now because of the **edit** commando weapons.
Anythign with carbines
The fact that the DX2 and the Elite Carbine don't even compare to guns that you can get LOWER in Marksman.
The fact that all the rare resources have borked stats ? The basic reason why the above statement is true btw.
You guys need to concentrate on fixing broken stuff alot more than what it seems now.
I like the idea of being able to declare anytime, anywhere... But only if you have gotten a faction uniform. This would give more purpose to having them.. besides looking nifty
I think this would work if Imperials were overt all them time with the rebs having to declare at a recruiter or within the 50m. This would add to the "feel" that rebels are gurellia fighters and can't stand toe to toe with the Empire.
I think the Imperials should not fear any rebels so that is why they should be over all the time unless some kind of "spy" profession is implemented.

No, it was not. Holocron (Mr. Koster) has already stated as much in other threads. They consider you as signed up for PvP at any time when you belong to a faction. Covert means nothing more than that, covert.

BZZZ.....Wrong again!
I was there from the BEGINNING!
What Holo ment is there was a CHANCE for PvP , if a Covert was unlucky enough if a Overt came along while he had a TEF. And thus, Coverts were open to PvP while we had a TEF.
What it also ment was, if we go out and kill a Faction NPC, and were carefull not to come back to town untill the 5 min TEF was up, we had a CHANCE to participate in the GCW without PvP.
Also, there are PvE Battlefields (which are completely broken at the moment)
So you have NO basis of saying that there is NO PvE GCW.
It is there.
For all of you who argue this isnt safe. It's very simple.
DONT STAND OVERT WITHING 50 METERS OF A RECRUITER!
I mean come on, your are crying about your ability to be hit if you are camping a recruiter...
See this thread to an excellent alternative to the current PvP systme SWG has:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=GCW&message.id=28636&highlight=reversion#M28636
Please read this and read the examples at the bottom of Part 2 titled "Making sense out of all this". You'll see that this system is very well thought out and deserves some discussion.
Yes, it could take up to half a year to re-work and create this system, but isn't waiting half a year for a system that SOE probably prefered and envisioned better than using a buggy, patched, and short sighted PvP system that we currently have?

My opinion, make it so you can declare Overt anywhere, anytime. To become Covert you have to go back to the recruiter and wait an hour. There is no reason that I should have to be within 50m to put on my uniform or flash my military ID and fight for my ideals.
That would let you move in armies of safe people to the location of a fight, and have them all go overt at once and ambush...
What's wrong with that? Hiding militants among the local populace until you can ambush is a logical tactic, and I'd be surprised if the Rebels didn't use those very tactics often. Maybe make it a Rebel only ability, or perhaps a faction perk that is bought. Another alternative is that after using the "surprise attack" ability a player cannot go Covert again until after they have had an image designer hide thier identity with a little appearance change. Please don't dismiss the chance to add different tactical abilities and ways of waging warfare in favor of making a completely even (and no fun) playing field.

Since when is a even playing field not fun?
This game is supposed to be fun for ALL players, not just those who with to ambush/grief.
I for one like this idea a great deal. Also, this makes things better in places like the Dantooine Imperial Outpost, where the recruiter spawns inside the wall (and some cannot see him due to graphics options).
And while you are here:
1. What about the revenge TEF issue? Is it possible to give us an overt option upon death
instead of the revenge TEF?
2. What about eliminating permadeath for faction pets? Droids and faction pets are largely
missing, especially from PVP battles. I think this should be the other way around
(excluding creature handlers), and we should see great battles of player controlled
factional npc's instead of "Clash of the Cowardly Gurrecks".
3. What about better combat droids? Really the same issue I have with #2 above. Creatures
ARE star-warsy, but only if they are largely outnumbered by droids and troopers.
Thanks,
