Thread: In-Concept 3: Entertainer, Dancer and Musician Missions & Quests
Couple of ideas, not sure if they've already been thought of...
Dancer - A mission for Jabba's palace. You find out from an NPC outside the palace that their sister/friend/lover/whomever has been kidnapped by Jabba as a dancer, and he won't give her/him? up. You have to go in, and by dancing for Jabba, get his attention instead of the kidnappee. Jabba dumps his old dancer, inpreference to you.
Dancer/Musician/Entertainer - How about for particularly difficult entertainer missions in cantinas (like the more focused artisan survey missions), the crowd (spawned at time of mission) wants a particular song/dance in the player's repetoir, and favours certain flourishes over others. Thus, when the player starts entertaining, the get a pop up/system message telling them what the mood of the crowd is. If they keep the crowd above a certain 'happiness' rating, they get paid (and lots of it), fail, and they get nothing! Possibly, when they first enter the area, depending on their skill, they get a 'The crowd seems sad' or something, and a clever entertainer would learn which dances/songs that suggested. The crowd could also heckle or cheer depending on the player's sucesses.
Dancer/Musician/Entertainer - Group missions. If several entertainers are grouped, they can get a mission for a certain number of them (a band, or a troupe). Their success is then based on their band flourishes, but otherwise much like the above 'favor rating' mission.
I'd like to see lights or something that glow/flash when an entertainer is dancing/playing in a cantina or hotel. Better than spamming /yell Entertainer in Cantina!!!!
Image Designer - I'd like to see missions for them. They have to get to the customer, and depending on what that customer wants, give them a particular hairstyle or similar. For example - one might say "I wan't something like that lovely Organa girl." - cue Leia hairdo. Or possibly as vague as "I need a change - surprise me!" They get their image design xp, a bonus for doing the mission, and a payout depending on how 'happy' the NPC is with the result.
I have a couple of points.
First, stop with the bard requests. If you want to play an active role in combat, spend some skill points in a combat profession. You can be a master dancer or musician, and hold your own in combat. I don't want to see pure entertainers with no combat skills playing a role in combat - distracting through music is completely ridicoulos in Star Wars. We don't have magic music in Star Wars. Any band on a battlefield would just get shot in Star Wars, or ignored if they arevery, verylucky. I myself have mastered dancer, and spent the rest of my skill points on some combat skills, and I can hunt with anyone.
Second, a bazaar category for jobs would be very, very nice. It would not take much imho to code that in - just add a section to the bazaar terminals, and add an item "note" that people could rename with their job description and a way to contact them (Tells or email). That way you can check for open jobs and thencontact the employer - to check details, and make sure he is online.
IMHO, just adding such note items would make hiring entertainers much easier for players, and entertainers could also advertise that way - artisans already do similar things. It would also be easy - most is alreday there, the local/planet/galaxy check etc. Much easier than adding more terminal missions.
Third, I support the notion to add more entertainer content in theme parks anyway. I hated the fact that I had to kill and dodestroy missionsto enter Jabba's palace as a dancer. There should be another way. I would be wary, however, of just adding the token entertainer need to the usual go there and kill missions. Better make an entire quest not needing combat, or a quest where you can use multiple options do do it.
Fourth, I don't want to see EQ style quests where you have to camp and grind just to play your profession. I don't want uberloot, so if you add new dances etc. through quests, make it quests anyentertainer can do without requiring a) either a full group of maxed combat characters or b) has to grind or even camp for days to complete it. If you add new clothes and dances, just add them.
I would lke to have the Big Warrior Dance with us Dancers.
Once i Prpposed to change the /Dance Command to something
looking like the "Basic" Danceloop. So Yo can have Pair Dances
with 2 people standing head to head, even if you Dance with a
The drums of war...
Your alone, seemingly stranded in the wilderness. The enemy appears to be everywhere, but you are not sure if they are aware of your presence. Then, seemingly through the fog comes the dreadful sounds of the drums. The drums that signal one thing and one thing only; a battle is about to begin. The hair on the back of your neckbegins to feel heavy...it perks with sweat. And you realize the sweat is from fear. Fear of being discovered? Nay, the fear of death.
The lone drum's beat begins, at first, as a simple beat, defining rythym and defining motive. Then it begins to quicken in pace and intensity...the whole time you are realizing that your fear is turning into intimidation. Intimidation by the apparent frenzy which is forming in front of your ears. The drums are now being joined by the sounds of a definitve and confident step, the stepping sound that only a force of soldiers in armor can make.
Have they found you? It appears to be headed towards your hiding place, your only refuge. The step of the soldiers is still accompanied by the drums.
Those drums... if only they would stop, I would be able to think about how to get out of here... they cloud your judgment, they dizzy your thought process, they invade your very heart. The drums are right upon you. Or, is that the soldiers?
The drums? The soldiers? Which is it? They seem to be one and the same, as if they are feeding off of each other. The march seems more confident with each step and the drummers are beating the drums as if to call to arms and to call the order...
Such discipline, such order...
You find yourself in utter chaos, not knowing which way to turn...
Then... you hear, in the distance, but yet it might as well beright next to you--the high pitch of the slitherhorn, forming with its every move on the scale - a song, a communication, a voice of reason and, yes, hope. A song with which you are most familiar. The song of comrads, the song of allies, the song of friends, the song, in all its glory... a call to arms.
Now, the sound of the infernal drums is dismissed by your own thoughts as they begin to form up and become steady with the sound of your song. The song that calls you to arms. The song that makes you stronger. The song that drowns the drums of war...
You are not alone.
------------------------
I do not want to sit in a cantina while my friends fight for my freedom. I want to go into battle with my song. I want to rally my guild, my faction, my army. I want to confound my enemy with my song. I want to go to war too. I want to be useful in the battlefield. Not around it and not of it... IN it.
Bump to:
Entertainer entertaining the troops
Entertainer spying
Entertainer working in Jabba's palace
Entertainer missions being bought by Player Cantina Owners and placed on the Entertainer Mission Terminals
would add:
Drop those silly special effects tree from the Dancer skill path. What a waste of time! Replace with 1- Dancer combat dodging +20 on dodge, 2-Dancer music (i.e. they have a boombox to play music on and can have music even if no musician is present!) 3- Dancer self buff, 4-Dancer Multi-buff to buff more than one person at a time. At Master Dancer add- Vendor placement (for the cantina so people can buy drinks) Robo Dancer so they can have a droid that will dance and heal Players that visit the player cantina when no Player dancers are present.
Besides Profession/Mission the player cantinas need to be fixed as they are terrible right now, they are silent non-healing places with no point in players visiting. Boombox and robo dancers would partially help to address that. Right now as a cantina owner I see no point in having a player cantina. Its a waste of time to sit in this ghost town and a waste of money to pay for it to be maintained. It doesn't need to be that way and the concept of having a cantina is very kewl, its the execution of having a cantina that is lacking. Maybe a play bill could be added to the planet map where cantinas are listed?
Heres a good one for IMAGE DESIGNERS:
I am an imperial and in my guild I keep hearing the alien players how it sucks to have a penalty on all faction perks. Ive also heard alot of alien players ask to be able to wear stormtrooper armor.
My sugestion would be to let Image designers give alien players some sort of "formal look". It would be some kind of buff that would let alien Players be treated just like a human player because of the Image designers makeup on the alien. Then that player would be able to wear stormtrooper armor just like anyone else, I think this would please alot of them and you , as IDs would get to be very usefull for alien players =)
This idea can be extended to many more aspects of the game, such as wookie issues and stuff but I will let you guys develop on this =)
