Thread: Player Cities: Where we are and where we are going.
I have waited a month now for a chance to be able to play with a city or within one. The release of cities was done in such a fashion that more than half the people are left without this gaming experience. That is why the cap needs to be lifted come what may.
Had they truly wanted to control this they should have made placing and making a city on the big 3 planets extremely hard so as to make people wanting their own little spot go to one of the less used planets.
We were promised things like the ability to take over a city due to politics yet at the same time stopped by the required permission to place houses. I was on test center when this problem was discussed. Zoning was intended to give mayors the ability to zone areas for future building making for nicer looking more planned cities. Not as a tool to keep people out which is exactly what has happened.
Most people cannot even visit a city to see what they are like. There is no way to move in and try to take over politicaly since you can't even move in.
What we have are mostly faction controlled cities and due to the mass number of rebels over imperials they are mostly Rebel cities.
Politicians have no way to exp, making this an extremely unfair profession. The caps need to be raised asap due to all this and nerf away to control over urbanization. But open it up to everyone to have a chance to make one or take one. Cities are not a MINE thing. To have a MINE type of a city should require mass work to maintain.
One thing that could help this situation, and I've heard it was a possibility, is that outposts don't count against the city cap. Maybe Thunderheart can verify for us if that will in fact be the case?

Yargh.... monday or friday, easiest to take off a day from work and class. The 7 hour server downtime was brutal last time, had no idea what plans i needed to cancel. =/
Canceling plans in order to play a computer game.... strange priorities, but to each his own i suppose.
ummm i cant read the names of the regular cities anymore on the overhead map due to the amount of urban sprawl going on we dont need anymore cities. cant go anywhere on som planets without running into a PC city every 1500 meters. it is getting out of hand. please dont increase the cap
That brings up another thing i think should be taken care of. On the the datapad (Ctrl-D) how about they make it a bit different. You can leave the option automatically to display the main original cities, then click on a tab to show the level 5 Player cities, and then one for level 4 and so on. That way everything isn't on the map at the same time

we are raising the Player City Caps with this publish so when it goes live, now is your chance to create your cities.
Arghh noooooo
There's too many player cities smashing the immersion and continuity already
The planetary maps are like junkyards for the unimaginative now, I'm so fed up with the rubbish names... "Krayt City", "Mos Quito", "Death Valley", give me a break ![]()
Player cities are the MOST un-StarWarsy thing in the whole game, please don't raise the caps any more ![]()
Player cities are actually one of the most star-warsy thing i've seen in this game. people should be allowed to be "nomads" if they so feel it necessary. I want a town to call my HOME and not just a house in the middle of no where.
Any idea when this patch is actually going to drop and go live? I cancel plans to get things done as soon as patches drop and it's hard to do that when you go to school and have other obligations as well. Any information on this would be great. Thanks ![]()
Thunderheart ....
Could you elobrate a little on the next wave of the "player cities", please?
Is the number of player cities, per planet, going to be the same as before? Reason for asking? Because of the mad rush to place .... it seemed as if all of the first 10 city halls were placed within a 10 minutes time frame.
What happpens if you are preparded to "place your city hall" ... (on land you have layed out/reserved for your "city hall") .... and come up with the current problems of placing houses, factories, etc .... if there happens to be "game generated spawns" on the location at the time that we have to kill to free up the space before placing .... and/or ....a game generated "temple or camp" that has been placed preventing you from placing?
With a 10 minute window ....... timing is of the essence ...... it appears.
WHO'S CITY WILL BE NEXT TO BE DESTROYED?
I do not know if we were the first to have a crooked politition or not but this is a magor problem imho.
Having a City so that ONE player can destroy it is totaly insane!
I hope you all know that if the Mayor (for whatever reason or how ever it happends) is deleted so is YOUR city with him on the server shutdown after his char is deleted. You go to nothing, your city hall is destroyed, all the funds in the treasury are destroyed with it. Your taken off the map and have no way of controling this.
IMHO there really needs to be a backup for the citizens of these citys. They could be making political exp at a slower rate so if you need to change mayors your not taken back to the dark ages. There should be a min of a 5 council group to be able to destroy a city hall. They should be voted in so the mayor does not appoint all his alt char's to the positions and so on. But not many could have 5 char's playing all at the same time to click destroy to take the city hall down.
Further more...since there are funds in the treasury, the city hall should act as if it were any other instalation and sit there untill it rots if no funds are going into it and you can not get 5 council member to agree to take it down. It should NOT disapear with the mayor!!!!!
After all it is the citizens that make a city not the mayor!
I would like to know what is going on with citys now. We had ours destroyed by a deleted mayor and had to start over but now we can not get back on the map and we havethe same number of people and structers as we did befor, if not morepeople, living there doing business there. I have not seen anything saying that you have to be rank 3 now to be on the map, How and when did this happen? In all fairness we should have never been taken off the map. We had a new city Hall up within hours of the one being destroyed and never went below our numbers needed. We donated again to the new city hall and had over 500k in there as a new begining.
SWG is looseing a lot of good people because of all the bugs, also, you keep adding more stuff that causes more bugs and yet you never fix the ones we have had for months... A lot more will be leaving when the new wears off the vehicles and they can't deal with all the bugs all day long no mater what your doing. The lag is now so bad in some places you can't hardly move, and you want to add more befor you fix the problems.
well my rant is done, I had to wait several days befor I even dared come here and put down my thoughts.
short timer
(if things don't get fixed)
The cap should be raised, however, I agree with the posters who are saying cities should cost tons more than they currently do to maintain. As of now they are too cheap and any old PA can scrub one together.
I am speaking as one of those a"any ole PA's too!"
