yeah, and I barely have any boobs...

I think most of the girls that attend were taken though there's that thread in the fanfest forum about Randon's girlfriend getting hit on, although she *is* cute

Admit it Pappi, you were hitting on her too.

And the only reason most were taken is because n'Jessi wasn't taken for.. what.. 2 minutes?

This issue fascinates me because until today, I had no idea this was an issue. I have actually only been aware of one character (a buddy on Kauri) who is a male playing a female character (his explanation is that he got drunk one night and the next morning there was an extremely hot girl character on his selection screen).

I personally am 100% real life gal playing three girls (Smuggler on Kauri, Dancer on Eclipse, Tailor/Fencer on Starsider). The only guy character I've played in this game was a character on the JTL test center. I know people have asked me about my smuggler character being a real girl, but it never really clicked in my mind that people assume that most female avatars are played by guys. That is until today...

I was playing Laera, my dancer on Eclipse. When it comes to this game, I like to try to maintain roleplay as much as possible (unless people just won't cooperate... which is frustrating because this is a roleplaying game after all). Laera is very sweet, naive, and shy.... and she speaks fairly poor basic, speaking Ryl in-game instead. Some guy started up an ooc /tell conversation with me and asked if I was a real girl. I told him yes...

And for the first time I was made aware of the misconception that most of the galaxy gals are actually galaxy pals... (yeah cheesy but you get it, lol). He actually was convinced I was the only real girl he'd ever met in the game.

I'm curious to find out how accurate that is because I've always felt like there are more girls in this game then you can even keep track of and I figured only a fairly small percentage of those were actually guys.

-Lyr' Terei, Rebel Pilot and Spy, Kauri

From my experience on Corbantis most female toons are in fact female players. There are a few guys and for one reason or another most of those are working up buf-bots. I know of one guy who is playing a female going Jedi. I flirt a lot and I find that often the "pals" fess up or in some way let a guy know its not a girl behind the toon. I could be surprised by some but I don't think it will be often; its just so basic some of the ways guys and gals interact that give clues.

There have always been female gamers, no doubt about it. At one point, however, the perception that most gamers were guys despite the avatar they played was fairly accurate. My guess is as good as anyone's, but I'd say 90% or better gamers were guys. More recently more women have been getting into games. It's spreading to mainstream, and everyone is getting in on things. On top of that, SWG is a game with very broad appeal, so even in this time of growing female gamers, it's probably got a lions share compared to other games.

The reason I post this is I have a BH mentioning me in the BH forums and everyone was like "Don't worry, that Ay'la chick probably isn't reallya girl anyways" and it just got to me more than it should.

Ok, two things....

Firstly, it's not strange at all. Many females play as male characters. Many males play as female characters. Certainly it's not strange to play as a completely different race. On the same note, playing a character of the opposite sex should not be frowned upon, in my opinion

Secondly, there is certainly alot of truth to your second statement. In fact, my experiences on characters of both sex absolutely support that belief. As a female, I receive more tips, and in larger amounts. I meet more repeat customers (even if they know I'm a male at the keyboard.) I interact with many more patrons. Most male combat players absolutely refuse to interact with a male character, watch a male player dance, or even be buffed by a male (a simple business transaction, really.) I find it difficult to sell a buff at any time and in any place on Chilastra. Til has many friends, but some would rather be buffed by a female before coming to find me. It's not really something that's said, but simple acquaintances rarely make a special trip to see me. I know of many female players who have regular customers that hardly know them as more than a dancing woman.

Trust me, a pretty face will get you far in a game filled with young boys

I just started a dancer on Infinity, and stumbled across this thread when I came here to read up on the profession. Most of the people I play with in-game know I'm a female IRL, but it doesn't really bother me if people think otherwise. I grew up with 4 brothers and have always been a tomboy. My main character has always had a combat profession, and it's what I enjoy playing most. So, I can see where people would think that I'm really a guy, as I didn't go the "traditional" girly route with her. Some people have tried to be mean about accusing me of being male, but again, I usually just laugh it off.

On a side note, though, while playing my tailor alt, I ran into some guy that wouldn't leave her alone. I finally lied and said, "I'm a guy." and he ran so fast in the opposite direction. Yeah, /addignore would have worked too, but that was just more fun. So sue me.

LOL I've never been able to bring myself to do that, even though I am accused at LEAST once a play session of being a Todd. I've been spending some time playing another game as well... and it's even WORSE there. People flat-out tell me I'm lying when I say I'm a girl. Well, I'm not going to send them pictures of my uterus to prove it, so I guess there is a small percentage of the world's population who will be forever convinced that any Fuschia they meet in game is a dude IRL.

Poor Tarquinas must have collectively had their psyche singed by "Todd". I have been asked if I am really female in RL a few times, but not that often. To my memory, though,I have only once been "accused" of being male and actually that one occasion was in the midst of a heated argument with a guy who i later flirted with a lot, lol. Truth is, I think on Shadowfire, the assumption is that you either are the gender you portray, or if you do it convincingly, it must not matter. We are a small server and may have a more mature player base [average] than some of the larger servers? (of course I'm generlizing)
