the covercharge option is great, it is now profitable to be a AFK entertainer.....once again SOE thank you for further streamlining macrotainers....end of may, still no fix of the recursive macro.


sorry for the downer post, but ive complety given up on expecting any kind of respect from SOE for entertainers, if you been playing SWG for over a few months and seen what all they have done for us....you'll see it to

I'm just wondering. What aspects of the game currently use recursive macros anymore?

Entertainers - to afk-skill/buffbot/chat-while-dancing (I don't think the 3rd point is a valid one, but it gets brought up again, so i mention it - and I could do without the first two)
Crafters - craftmacros to grind XP (granted. The removal of recursive macros would hurt new crafters to a point)
Starport Spammers - I guess 98% of people hate them, the other 2% spam

Pre-CU alot of people used it for CoB and similar things during combat, but my understanding is, this doesn't work very well anymore, so most combatands wouldn't notice if rec. macros are suddenly gone.

Anyway, it seems a lot of use for recursive macros has been removed. There are rumors about a crafter-revamp... perhaps the skillup system gets changed so they don't need macros either, then the devs could remove it without to much of an uproar against us, since the only people it would affect are us.

Well I'm not sure the devs actually plan this or if its just coincidence... but I can hope

Crafters - craftmacros to grind XP


You know, When I did the Doctor grind, I tried useing a recurisive macro to help with my crafting.


In the end I just found it easer to make 1 Macro per crafting tool and then set them up on numbers 1-5 and then all I had to do was push 1,2,3,4,5. 1,2,3,4,5. Over and over to craft once I was done with one tool.


I ended up with less Screwups because the macro speed was controlled by me and I could compensate for loading lag better.


Starport Spammers - I guess 98% of people hate them, the other 2% spam


Who the *&(# cares about spammers?! LOL Spammers are prolly 90% of the reason why Slowconnection players can not go to cities like Coronet, and Theed.

I know, as i said the 3rd point is not valid, you can easily make macros that run for 10 minutes or longer. THink the limit is around 900 chars, it depends on something else, i could never find out exactly. But something around that.

And yeah there are solutions for crafters too.

And i never said i care for spammers, i was just mentioning people who use recursive macros, and tehy do

While Kirah hasn't ventured beyond the safety of her player cantina on Naboo, Bria, Shianne decided to take advantage of the double XP offer and visited Mos Eisley on Chilastralast night to pick up some ID training. Upon entering the normally kicking ATKcantina, what didmy wandering eyes meet? A good half dozen or more "entertainers" who either proudly wore the AFK tag or clicked it off in hopes of not being caught. Not one person in there responded to my requestsfor ID training or to my rather snide comment about AFKtainers. I /addignored a couple of them for spamming for tips before heading to the NPC trainer for assistance. As a matter of fact, in the 45 minutes I was there (before logging in disgust of the AFKers and rampantlag) I must have /addignored about a dozen players in and around the cantina and starportfor spamming.


Oh, and what's with the NPC dancer who's hogging the top of the stairs? All she would do is show me how well she dances and - quite frankly - I'm better . . .

I think she's got a quest for novice ents, but one that you HAVE to be novice ent to get. Not sure. The reason why I noticed her was because she was talking to someone else with what looked to me like quest info.

Mebbe I try to talk to her on Bria.

They promised that recursive macros will be removed in May and I for one completely believe them. After all, they never said which May. It will probably be in May after the fix the incomplete dances that will be fixed soon after launch. It's all relative.





well....they also promised the removal of recursive macros in august of '04....

Yes, but did they actually SAY August 2004? Or was it just being done away with "soon"?


Remember player vehicles, player cities, mounts, and even our dance fixes are all "soon" after launch.

I think she does the previously dubbed theater quest.... or perhaps she just handles the "promotion" part of the quest.

Only char I have that's close to novice dancer with no theater quest is on TC, so I can't test that and see. Kinda wish I could get to novice with the double exp weekend but I guess not. I should have right after CU

I think there's a delicate timeline for this, a certain progression that they have to stick to or the backlash from the player base will be nasty.

Mostly, they had to remove the valid reasons why people rely on recursive macroing right now. Most of that stuff was done pre-CU but what would have happened if they had removed them then? Lots and lots of buffbots using 3rd party programs. More than anyone could find and track, and they and the players who used their services would feel completely validated in their belief that SOE was "forcing" them to break the rules. It would have been *possible* to get rid of them eventually, I think, but it would have been difficult and there would have been a great deal of anger levelled at us live people.

Now, today, why are people botting? We're back to "'cause they can," and "free money." They really have removed the need for bots' services, right now. Very, very few people are going to be able to justify SOE "forcing" them to use 3rd party programs to run a bot in the current environment. Unattended levelling was never the reason why the majority of the playerbase supported leaving AFKers in game, the majority of the playerbase has always hated and resented the ease of AFK levelling entertainer. So if they remove recursive macros now, the people who set up 3rd party bots are going to be viewed by the majority of their peers as the cheaters they are, instead of being considered heroes as they would have pre-CU, and will have a hard time being successful.

But what happens if they remove them too early, and before the player base has adjusted to the "nothing to see here, these aren't the ent buffs you're looking for" metality? And what if they remove them before most respec periods have run out? Well, people respec their bot/mule back to master and keep their old attitude and we're back to the pre-CU 3rd party hell scenario, regardless of the fact that they've promised that any additional skills we're given in the future will be "ATK only."

I know it's tough to get through this, but I really think we're nearing the end. And as much as it frustrates me to not have a real marketable skill, and as much as it frustrates me to see 5+ new AFKers in each cantina each day so that I can't even find a clear space to stand again, I want this done right and I want to work. And if it means the first week of June instead of the last week of May, I'm willing to hold out for a few more days.

When they say they are removing recursive macros, is it removing the ability toconnect a macro to itself only, or to connect macros period? Because if it just removes connecting macro to itself, then you could make a macro like your old recursive one, and link it to another that links it right back. For example:


Macro1: /flourish1; /pause 6; /flourish2;/pause 6; /flourish3;/pause 6; /flourish4;/pause 6; /flourish5;/pause 6; /flourish6;/pause 6; /flourish7;/pause 6; /flourish8;/pause8;/macro macro2


Macro2: /pause1;/macroMacro1


If they eliminate recursive macros, would be affected? And if not, what will they do then?
