Thread: Holy frijoles! AFK going away in May?
eldiablo2k3 wrote:Yes, but did they actually SAY August 2004? Or was it just being done away with "soon"?
Remember player vehicles, player cities, mounts, and even our dance fixes are all "soon" after launch.
No. According to the original announcement which was dated back in last August, there was never a specified date for the removal of recursive macros. Only that it would occur after Publish 10 so as far as that goes, they were accureate, though we never thought 9 months later we'd still be wondering where it was. The announcement that started this post is the first we've seen of any target date for its release. While it appears that they are going to miss it, I would still encourage optimism that they are still on track to deliver this promise, and may be very vlose to actually releasing it.
To Arturun, I don't think they've specifically mentioned anywhere how, exactly, they plan to remove the recursive macros, but I would imagine they will attempt to address all existing forms so that looping, recursive or overly nested macros of any kind are no longer possible through in-game means. Whatever they do come up with, I'm sure that there will be several people testing the changes to see if they can find any way of working around the fixes and finding a new way to run continuous macros. If they do, we and the devs will definitely hear about it. If you have ideas you want to try out, if and when we see these changes go live you should go ahead and test them when you can and see if you can you can find any flaws, and let us know what you find.

I think there's a delicate timeline for this, a certain progression that they have to stick to or the backlash from the player base will be nasty.
Mostly, they had to remove the valid reasons why people rely on recursive macroing right now.
Thats exactly what I wanted to say in my post when I mentioned who is still using recursive macros.
Right now there are only a few left, I think they're working on the others... I hope at least.
But then, I've said it before: Recursive Macros are not the source of the Buffbot evil. They're a tool used by them, but the main reason recursive macros can be used is that the disconnection routines are really crappy.
They disconnect ATK people if they just sit on a chair and CHAT in guildchat, groupchat, tells and chatgroups, write emails and notepad, but DON'T move or say anything in Spartial. And they don't disconnect AFK people that just run a macro that spams spartial.
THAT is the real problem, if they'd fix the disconnection routines, a lot of issues with unattended gameplay would be solved.

I was in Mos Eisley yesterday handing out BE clothing items to the new players and had no less than three new players tell me that they chose entertainer as they could let the toon run while they were doing something else.
/sigh
Times up ……
Come on Devs, don’t be scared and push the Red Button ….
Or at least do give us a name of the joint where the guy who did make that statement now flips burgers.

What else can we expect, the Devs have made turning an Entertainer into a PC NPC a very easy process. And now, /covercharge let's them sleep sounder knowing they can charge people for their AFK services.
