Thread: Mustofar content for Entertainers
I am looking forward to the new expansion and will be getting three copies, one for each account. Yes, it's possible that it will be a no go area for my CL1 crafter, just as Kashyyk is, but there may still be stuff she can do so I'm not going to shoot it down in flames until I've tried it.
I was a little disappointed with RotW as it was so quest based and I get bored of doing those quickly. Also the planet design didn't seem to quite fit in with the rest of the galaxy, a bit too cartoony in an EQII way. Having said that, the space quests have been fun.
So the new expansion will offer things for at least one char to do and perhaps the other two will find some fun as well. I'm at the stage now where I play SWG for the friends I have made, rather than the content, so anything new is worth a try.

Most of the entertainers with whom I've spoken in game were unaware of the expansion or our inclusion in it. Those who participate in these forums are the vocal minority. But we do have the responsibility of being the voice for the rest of the dancers. We are the ones the devs hear. But no..I would fight tooth and nail to keep any inclusion for us from being removed. I'm just tired of the first reaction to any dev mention of entertainers being negativity. People here are condemning it before we even know what it's about.

Just to put my own comments in perspective as well as illustrate the sort of Neanderthal I am - I don't even own Jump to Light Speed. It didn't do anything to enhance my game. Rage of the Wookies didn't offer anything to enhance my game. I don't own it either. (Though I'm reconsidering a bit now that I've taken up Creature Handler, as that expansion does offer some interesting opportunities for CH.)
I'm not "raging against the machine" here and I don't think anyone else really is either. I'm just noting that one tune is not really going to enhance my game all that much. Heck, I don't even have Western yet, and if I did there are precious few people to play it with. Having Gordon proclaim "Yeah, we've got new resources, a new tune, and a new dance so yeah, we're aiming this for the CL1's too!" just tells me that the upper management at SOE doesn't have a clue what the CL1 game is really all about.
Who?

I understand where you're coming from, Esharra, especially in your correspondent role, but anyone who designs and builds games for a living had better be able to seperate his ego from the game. Any devs who would say "Those ungrateful entertainers, nothing makes them happy" are the sorts who shouldn't be working on games like this in the first place.

I think the new expansion will be wonderful!
I read some things about it and they MENTIONED something about us, entertainers... can you imagine???
*beams* they know we are alive.
I am going to recommend to everyone I know that they get this as it will change the shape of everything
and from now on, if someone thinks of grand, beautiful and glorious, they will think of what the
entertainers got from the new expansion and all rush to be one.
I apologize for my previous negativity. It was unfounded. Esharra is right, we have no need to fear this,
we have no cause for concern or alarm. Everything we have ever asked for has been granted to us, and this
will be the same, I feel it in my bones.
I for one, now have full confidence in the dev team to do right by us. Let the combat classes tremble in fear
for the age of the entertainer being supreme has just begun!!!

From reading Esh's post, I don't think she was talking about the Devs' feelings but her own.
Lol..I know exactly how it looks to the devs when they see threads like this and others that show absolutely no appreciation for what they have given us. Why should they even want to give us more?
As for the Devs and their egos, I don't think poopooing at every new thing they give us is exactly the best way to get them to give us more new stuff.
Have you looked at your old issue lists and seen how many things have been checked off... and when?
Yep. In fact, I've been planning to revisit those old lists publically, just to illustrate how much we HAVE gotten over the last two years. Despite being an opininated SOB, I AM sympathetic to the fact that we're a small cog in a big machine, meaning that the devs give us attention mainly when they're between high-priority projects. I don't have a problem with that. I'm willing to wait months for content and yes, even pay for it IF the content is meaningful and improves my gameplay.
If the devs are meeting that benchmark then I'll be right there on the front lines patting them on the back and giving them all the gratitude they could want. If they're not, then I'll let them know that. I'm one opinion. Meaningless by itself. If some measurable fraction of the three forums agrees with me then that has some weight, and if the majority of the comments are in agreement (I'm not claiming that they are, BTW) then they ought to be asking WHY the reviewers are unhappy.
Pretending enthusiasm in order to encourage them to make more content sends the wrong message. It says that I'm happy with what they're giving me and that they should give me more just like it. If that's what I wanted, well, we wouldn't be having this conversation. *heh*
Anyway, I suppose I'll drop out of this thread because it looks close to becoming an argument and that wasn't my intention at all. If there appears to be "heat" in any of my writings, then please accept my word that none was there then they were written. Criticism, yes. Emotion or attacks, no.

Your Not all that"Neanderthal" ish..
The only reason I have JTL is because it was a gift. I don't like Twitch games, and I never would have bought it on my own. I don't have RoTW beccause I knew it didn't offer me anythign I really wanted That and I'm not paying for expansions to a game I can hardly play (56k Modum Support my ARSE!).. as it is only I have access to about20% of (The Origional) games content.
So let me just ask this for my own edification. If we don't consider new songs or dancers or props to be content but rather tools, how do we express that without sounding like we're "poopooing at every new thing they give us"? Because this has been my concern all along. If I don't speak up then those voices that are heard are from the entertainers who do consider these tools to be content. I assume that would mean the devs look at theresponse and say "good we're all on the same page and the entertainers like the new content". So I'd be stuck never actually getting anything that I consider to be content in this profession. That fear is why I finally registered and started posting on the forums long after I'd been playing the game.
I don't have any problem with entertainers getting more tools and I'm not trying to complain simplybecause I can. But at some point I have to say, my toolbox is pretty full but what do I do with them? If I could have some measure of reassurance from a developer or other spokesperson that they agree that new songs and dances are tools and that they intend, at some point, to give us a use for those tools, then I'd be less apprehensive. But when someone posts that entertainers will want to buy an expansion because it contains a new song and a new dance, but doesn't say anything about content or purpose for the entertainer in that expansion, then I am left with the impression that the people designing my game think those tools ARE my content.
So I take it some marketing department came to a conclusion that way too many entertainers didn’t bother purchasing the last expansion, there’s nothing like lost sales to spring marketing heads in action. So they came up with (in their book) making sure this time around entertainers do purchase their expansion even thru there is really no place for them there.
Yes, I’m cynical, hmm wonder why ….
Will I buy it? Most likely yes, just coz I’m a blonde and usually buy all the expansions for games I play. *shrugs*
Do I think some song and dance is an actual content? Hell no! It’s just cosmetics. How would Jedi feel if their “content” for expansion would be only new color oftheir glowstickor few more pleats in their robes?
