Thread: Mustofar content for Entertainers

I am looking forward to the new expansion and will be getting three copies, one for each account. Yes, it's possible that it will be a no go area for my CL1 crafter, just as Kashyyk is, but there may still be stuff she can do so I'm not going to shoot it down in flames until I've tried it.

I was a little disappointed with RotW as it was so quest based and I get bored of doing those quickly. Also the planet design didn't seem to quite fit in with the rest of the galaxy, a bit too cartoony in an EQII way. Having said that, the space quests have been fun.

So the new expansion will offer things for at least one char to do and perhaps the other two will find some fun as well. I'm at the stage now where I play SWG for the friends I have made, rather than the content, so anything new is worth a try.

Having had more time to think about it, I am leaning towards the preorder. It's pretty much my old source of entertainment. Considering the amount of money I'd otherwise spend going out, $30 is not so much.

im sorry... but..

A skill set that is animation is NOT content.. just cause ther is a dance.. or music.. or some animation.. for SP spent.. thats not CONTENT.. i dont care.. that there is what.. how many danced?? how many songs?? that is NOT content..

how many jedi would stay... if there was not one quest.. not one thing to do but just kill rancor on dath.. please.. id love you to find me one.

If i had a combat skill... and a place to go and sit and kill ohh i dont know.. 30 critters.. in a static spawn that was added.. i would not call that not content... but guess what.. thats more than an entertainer has gotton besides fixed dances.. that have been broken since launch

besides.. western. and theatircal.. name one quest that is geared towards entertainers... besdies.. droids, and props.. name one add on that has even come close to being content..(might as well.. just give us a new armor skin.. or weapon skin.. cuase that is the equivilant). If Jedi had been ignored this much.. there would not be one person to renew an account... Im sorry but having a skill set that allows animations.. to do while you sit in a cantina and make your own content... with

NOT ONE QUEST,,,, (besdies the 2,,,) is not content !.... im sorry if you think im wrong.. but ohh well.. this will be my last post .. my acc are cancled.. this game has become.. all about the jedi.. and EQ2.. its to bad too.. cuase this game had soo much potential..too bad that all the creators have left the game.(anyone that has been around since launch knows that).... a game that was soo unique and origonal. has turned into... well what it has become..

Je'Cy

Explayer... since day one launch

Je'cy Dax artisan/armorer (cancled)

Teyanna Yar bounty hunter/carbiner(cancled)

Sssllkks chef/starship enginer/musican(cancled)

alts of dancer/musican/tailor/architect/pikman (cancled)

Good bye all.... I hope one day.. this game could be all it could have been......but for some reason i dought it....

Yep. I've been spreading the word, and have gotten pretty favorable (albeit cautious) feedback from everyone. Every single dancer so far has also made a 'Hot Foot' Lava-dance joke

I would really like to see everyone who frequents here actively encourage the live performers they know in-game to at least keep an eye on the forums, and be more 'in the know' on issues and possible changes.

Just to put my own comments in perspective as well as illustrate the sort of Neanderthal I am - I don't even own Jump to Light Speed. It didn't do anything to enhance my game. Rage of the Wookies didn't offer anything to enhance my game. I don't own it either. (Though I'm reconsidering a bit now that I've taken up Creature Handler, as that expansion does offer some interesting opportunities for CH.)

I'm not "raging against the machine" here and I don't think anyone else really is either. I'm just noting that one tune is not really going to enhance my game all that much. Heck, I don't even have Western yet, and if I did there are precious few people to play it with. Having Gordon proclaim "Yeah, we've got new resources, a new tune, and a new dance so yeah, we're aiming this for the CL1's too!" just tells me that the upper management at SOE doesn't have a clue what the CL1 game is really all about.

As with Kashyyk, the primary reason for me to eventually buy Trials of Obi Wan will be for the CH content, such as it might be. No matter how wonderful and compelling the song-acquisition method is, it's still just a toy. Build in a new way for me to PLAY with the toy that makes the non-ents want to play with it too, and they'd get my attention and my money. I've got City of Villains to pay for in a couple of months, and I might get interested in the WoW expansion that's coming out soon. I'm not a captive audience and if the devs want me to pay them instead of paying Blizzard or Cryptic then they should be listening with an open mind if the reaction to their offering is more negative than positive.

I understand where you're coming from, Esharra, especially in your correspondent role, but anyone who designs and builds games for a living had better be able to seperate his ego from the game. Any devs who would say "Those ungrateful entertainers, nothing makes them happy" are the sorts who shouldn't be working on games like this in the first place.

From reading Esh's post, I don't think she was talking about the Devs' feelings but her own. I think she is sick of this reaction when we get something we have asked for. As for the Devs and their egos, I don't think poopooing at every new thing they give us is exactly the best way to get them to give us more new stuff.

"This is awesome!! You know what would be even more fun?!?" will probably get us more interest than "This sucks!! Try again, losers! Do your job!!" At least, that's how it's seemed to work best so far. *shrug* Have you looked at your old issue lists and seen how many things have been checked off... and when?

I read some things about it and they MENTIONED something about us, entertainers... can you imagine???

*beams* they know we are alive.

I am going to recommend to everyone I know that they get this as it will change the shape of everything
and from now on, if someone thinks of grand, beautiful and glorious, they will think of what the
entertainers got from the new expansion and all rush to be one.

I apologize for my previous negativity. It was unfounded. Esharra is right, we have no need to fear this,
we have no cause for concern or alarm. Everything we have ever asked for has been granted to us, and this
will be the same, I feel it in my bones.

I for one, now have full confidence in the dev team to do right by us. Let the combat classes tremble in fear
for the age of the entertainer being supreme has just begun!!!

My bad. Grant. *heh* Some weird wiring in my brain keeps calling him Gordon.

From reading Esh's post, I don't think she was talking about the Devs' feelings but her own.

This is the one I'm thinking of:

Lol..I know exactly how it looks to the devs when they see threads like this and others that show absolutely no appreciation for what they have given us. Why should they even want to give us more?

Besides, if this content was being tossed into Publish 25, say, I WOULD be properly appreciative. I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. As it is, I'm not unappreciative, but I do have an opinion as a consumer. My own opinion is just a drop in a bucket. If the collective opinion is uniformly lukewarm, then it might suggest to the devs (assuming they are concerned about such things) that something different might be in order.

As for the Devs and their egos, I don't think poopooing at every new thing they give us is exactly the best way to get them to give us more new stuff.

Aside from the fact the devs are certainly aware that the forums represent a tiny fraction of the playerbase, I'd reiterate that in my opinion devs who let their feelings get hurt instead of taking stock and wondering just why their efforts aren't pleasing their target audience are devs who should be doing something else.

Have you looked at your old issue lists and seen how many things have been checked off... and when?

Yep. In fact, I've been planning to revisit those old lists publically, just to illustrate how much we HAVE gotten over the last two years. Despite being an opininated SOB, I AM sympathetic to the fact that we're a small cog in a big machine, meaning that the devs give us attention mainly when they're between high-priority projects. I don't have a problem with that. I'm willing to wait months for content and yes, even pay for it IF the content is meaningful and improves my gameplay.

If the devs are meeting that benchmark then I'll be right there on the front lines patting them on the back and giving them all the gratitude they could want. If they're not, then I'll let them know that. I'm one opinion. Meaningless by itself. If some measurable fraction of the three forums agrees with me then that has some weight, and if the majority of the comments are in agreement (I'm not claiming that they are, BTW) then they ought to be asking WHY the reviewers are unhappy.

Pretending enthusiasm in order to encourage them to make more content sends the wrong message. It says that I'm happy with what they're giving me and that they should give me more just like it. If that's what I wanted, well, we wouldn't be having this conversation. *heh*

Anyway, I suppose I'll drop out of this thread because it looks close to becoming an argument and that wasn't my intention at all. If there appears to be "heat" in any of my writings, then please accept my word that none was there then they were written. Criticism, yes. Emotion or attacks, no.

Oh, I didn't think you sounded heated. I think the mass effect of many posters stating these opinions (many of which I share) does tend to affect the tone of this forum though... and I understand how that might be making Esh a little edgy as our go between.

Corrs take the brunt of a forum's mood as you know first hand, so I think a little cheerleading from the active corr is totally reasonable and doesn't make one a fan girl who is blind to the consumer view. Just wanted to give Esh's comments a little support for that reason along with the fact I believe she is giving us sound advice.

Your Not all that"Neanderthal" ish..

The only reason I have JTL is because it was a gift. I don't like Twitch games, and I never would have bought it on my own. I don't have RoTW beccause I knew it didn't offer me anythign I really wanted That and I'm not paying for expansions to a game I can hardly play (56k Modum Support my ARSE!).. as it is only I have access to about20% of (The Origional) games content.

So let me just ask this for my own edification. If we don't consider new songs or dancers or props to be content but rather tools, how do we express that without sounding like we're "poopooing at every new thing they give us"? Because this has been my concern all along. If I don't speak up then those voices that are heard are from the entertainers who do consider these tools to be content. I assume that would mean the devs look at theresponse and say "good we're all on the same page and the entertainers like the new content". So I'd be stuck never actually getting anything that I consider to be content in this profession. That fear is why I finally registered and started posting on the forums long after I'd been playing the game.

I don't have any problem with entertainers getting more tools and I'm not trying to complain simplybecause I can. But at some point I have to say, my toolbox is pretty full but what do I do with them? If I could have some measure of reassurance from a developer or other spokesperson that they agree that new songs and dances are tools and that they intend, at some point, to give us a use for those tools, then I'd be less apprehensive. But when someone posts that entertainers will want to buy an expansion because it contains a new song and a new dance, but doesn't say anything about content or purpose for the entertainer in that expansion, then I am left with the impression that the people designing my game think those tools ARE my content.

So I take it some marketing department came to a conclusion that way too many entertainers didn’t bother purchasing the last expansion, there’s nothing like lost sales to spring marketing heads in action. So they came up with (in their book) making sure this time around entertainers do purchase their expansion even thru there is really no place for them there.

Yes, I’m cynical, hmm wonder why ….

Will I buy it? Most likely yes, just coz I’m a blonde and usually buy all the expansions for games I play. *shrugs*

Do I think some song and dance is an actual content? Hell no! It’s just cosmetics. How would Jedi feel if their “content” for expansion would be only new color oftheir glowstickor few more pleats in their robes?

Just to be fair, Esharra is entirely correct about her main point - Namely, that we don't really know anything about how these new entertainer bits will be delivered. It's easy to focus on Grant's one-line blurb and say "Pfffttt, one tune/dance? That's it?". Grant's a project management type who focuses on selling the golden ring because he figures you already want to ride the carousel.

It's entirely possible that JFreeman and the other devs have built some ultra-compelling and exciting story quests and mini-game activities around the acquisition of these new entertainer bits. It might be that the entertainer bits are the afterthoughts rather than the real content. "And for playing, you get these lovely parting gifts!"

Given that SOE gutted the profession and then took only half-hearted measures towards restoring it, I admit to a certain amount of cynicism in the anticipation of _Trials_. Despite that, I certainly recognize the wisdom of saying "Let's at least wait for the beta test and find out what the real story is". Heck, they might have finally added the ability for entertainers to teach non-ents how to dance/play and Grant would ignore that because "that's not helping entertainers, that's helping non-ents..." when most of us would probably drop the money easily for that sort of ability...

Anyway, I'm willing to wait and see in spite of my diatribes. SWG is quite often a case of "look for the best, expect the worst".
