Thread: Dance Pole
lol, I was on the third page by the time I noticed this thread was started back in November. Nice Necro-posting ![]()
My stance: yes yes YES! Props would be a great thing to add. So far I use the most appropriate thing I can find: either a combat staff or a Ryyk Sword (which I can actually use btw)
Now, dance pole specifically, I think is a great idea. To all you people who think using a pole makes you a stripper, I'm sorry it doesn't. Stripping makes you a stripper. If you're lewd, accept /licks and nasty comments, that says one thing about you. If you respond to lewd comments with /nono, then that says another thing. The difference between using a pole and not using one is the same as dressing in fleshwraps and wearing a dress. We already have the bad reputations thrust on us, it's up to our character to change people's minds.
Now, someone made a good point that really only poles were being seriously mentioned. Why not start a list right now. Please add whatever you can ![]()
- dance poles
- spanish fans
- castanettes
- pompoms
- batons (flaming or otherwise)
- streamers
- I don't know what they're called, but the balls you see the olympic gymnists use...
- dance partners - that's right. Imagine two people in a group doing formal and actually dancing hand-in-hand

- chairs
That's all I can think of right now. Please add more!!

I say yes to all those props! We certainly could use something to spice this prof up!
I like fans, ribbons, and flowers. Then when we "offer a flower" we could actually be holding a flower.
As far as dance poles go, people have been placing metal staffs in their cantinas for awhile now and if you want to dance with it, try exotic 2. I choose not to place a pole on my cantina because I wanted to give the feeling of a Casablanca typenight club, not a gentlemen's club. Yes, dance poles definitely give a more "casual" feel to a place, but I think it's less classy. I think dance poles are a non issue since metal staffs already work. I've tried dancing with a pole as a lark, but I agree with those who feel it's clearlyselling sex. Dancers can be alluring without poles. And I haveseenplenty of contemporary ballets and don't ever remember seeing dance poles being used. Though a dancer in the play "Rent" used the equalivant of a ballet bar to dance... a horizontal bar... and her character was a prostitute.
(btw it was an amazing dance),
Anyway, point being, you can always go to a player cantina with a dance pole, I don't see it being necessary to carry a portable one.
I'm always up for some good old necro posting! ![]()
I'm also up for any and all of the props suggested in this thread, tame and not so tame.
I think I said this earlier in this thread (or another like it) but I'm so dying for dance cages a la go go! If they had collision detection and could really be entered, you could use them to prevent drift in crowded places too (I think someone else said that first, but it's a _really_ good idea).

Just a thought, but if they can't get our long hair to move and flow with us, how are they ever going to get a ribbon to flow? I love the idea of a ribbon, but I just can't see it happening.
Hmmm true, it would be difficult to implement this kind of prop to work with every dance. But maybe if they designate this prop to only work with one dance, or to allow you to dance a specific dance only is you have this prop, then I can see it as doable.
Love the ideas everyone ![]()

Just wanted to add a little factoid to this conversation. The use of a pole while dancing would not make you a stripper, anymore than being a stripper automatically makes you sleazy...........
ok i'm tired.. i think i need a nap...
oh i think masks and specific costumes would also be a nice addition... too bad we can't do lion dances too...
