Woohoo! Yay! Hurrah!!!
To the above poster: No more recursive macros doesn't mean no more macros. Is it too hard to ask you to be around to invoke your performance macro once in while when you are playing the game?
This is going to be so great. Poetdancer said it all. There might now just be a reason for PA's to have more of an interest in their entertainers and for entertainers everywhere to feel like their profession is being reborn.
And if people want to use 3rd party macroing tools, well bots are not very hard to recognise for what they are. The message is out now: use 3rd party tools to macro and work around this change and you will be banned. And don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Well I was nervous about this because I think IDs have seen what backlash a change that affects the entire playerbase brings. However, after reading the responses (only the first 4 pages lol) I feel much better. A lot of people see this as a very good thing, not only Entertainers. The people who don't seem to be split into several categories:
Crafters who use recursive crafting macros. A good suggestion was made to change the practice mode to offset this. Also many crafters have said they dont mind - its just one more click to reactivate the macro.
Bots. Hahahahaha! Okay, I'm over it.
But really, you warned them that something like this would happen if they didnt stop and the didn't, so I say again: Hahahahahahaha!
Power gamers who use bots. These are the people will harass you in-game for "nerfing" them. Get your /addignore ready. These are also the people who will find a way around this change so be ready for new and terrible things in the future lol. A warning: when changes like this happen the power gamers think and think and think until they come up with a very good, valid reason for why what they want should not be changed. It will be such a good excuse that even the Ents will think "oh wow, I never thought of that." Well, they never thought of it either, and will have never used this reason themselves but they will take up its cause like a holy grail. They will see themselves as the pious, wronged party and completly ignore the fact that they could care less about the cause, they just want the macros back for their own selfish reasons. (Note: The current holy grail is that people "only" create buffbots because they cannot find a live buffer. This is BS, we know it and sadly they know it too. But I have a feeling it will be shouted louder than ever, often in the face of a live buffer standing right in front of them.
)
Medics. Possibly the holy grail that will be taken up. Because of buffs it is extremely hard to level medic using normal gameplay. People having been using tumblers instead. The answer is, of course, to find groups who are hunting unbuffed (poor people who cant afford buffs or friends who are willing to risk death for you). But this requires time and effort and many will not be happy about it.
SO crafters and Medics are the only one I see who have valid beefs right now. Both have work arounds. I leveled to 2222 in medic in a single unbuffed hunting trip on TC the other night. /shrug We'll see if anyother profession emerges with the holy graill of why not to do away with recursive macros.
GOod change! And good work by the Corrs! If this was the "rumor" y'all were hearing I can see why you wouldn't let the cat out of the bag.

I've scanned over some of the pages beyond my own post in TH's thread andone thing that I find disheartening is the number of players saying that the entertainment profession should be done away with altogether and made into NPCs . . . . . sigh. That to me is the sign ofultimate selfishness in this playerbase - the "screw everyone else because I"M the most important player in this game" mentality. My only comfort is that most of these players probably have their monthy accounts funded by mommy and daddy . . .

Yippie !!!
Best change ever. I know it will break some of my macros, but hey... I will log back into my entertainer for the first time in 3 months, who cares if it still has 100% of all macros available.

I have heard this a lot and from personal experience I can say this is total bull**edit**. When the cantinas filled with Macrotainers, I switched servers and started out as a medic going to be combat medic. I spent the time with the other starters, first hunting squills on Tatooine, then Sharnaffs on Corellia. I bought Stim-B packs by the crate to heal my teammates. The results were great. Not only was I piling up huge amounts of Med XP, most of the time even so much that I was the one to cancel the hunt in the middle because my xp had capped again, but I also got an enormous amount of positive feedback. I seemed to be a healer extraordinair. All I did was target teammates and press my hotkey as soon as I saw someone get hurt. Not exactly rocket science.
If someone says he needs a tumbler, then what he really means is he is either too stupid or too lazy to actually do what a medic should do. Target a hurt person and press the quickbar button for a stimpack. There are enough hunting groups out there looking for a medic.
I also grinded the line of medic and the line of combat medic crafting ( plus a box of doc crafting ) without using a single macro. It wasn't fun, because I didn't want to be a crafter, but it's not the crafter apocalypse some people seem to think. Especially now that noone forces you to do any crafting for a profession you don't want to do.

This is the dumbest thing ive heard of since King Kong climed the tower, Churchills burping when having dinner, Monica lewinskys sex problems.
Anyone of you guys who are in favour of this try and master Musician FROM SCRATCH without a looping macro. Is that your idea of FUN?! HEll why not just do dancer again while doing musician then youll get all that action you guys are so fond off. Its a hoot!
Its amazing to see SOE taking this step only because a few people keep screaming about. This is the LEAST of SOE's (The Game) problems!
I actually like going into a cantina and see alot of dancer/musician beeing able to buff me when I need it. I could careless if they are AFK or not. Point is they are there. Goodluck finding anyone to heal your BF or whatever after this goes into effect. NOT alot of peoples ideas of fun is sitting 24-7 in front of a computer spamming out flourishes.
Right.. Flame away you peskies... You got what you wanted... Now move on to the CM's forums and start screaming about stronger Poisons/diseases (they really need it to have even more fun).

Neutrinos, I absolutely couldn't agree more.
Contrary to the folks who are jealous that someone inovative and entrepreneurial came up with the buff bot idea, I think the buff bots are a great idea. (can someone say Capitalism?)
I get much more enjoyment out of the game and the grind has been less tedious being able to get a buff when I need it. I don't care if the bots are afk *or* that they are making fortunes. The only thing I care about is the quality of my gaming experience... and I enjoy it much more buffed. I do NOT enjoy searching high and low for a doc or entertainer to buff me.
Unless there's some drastic modification to the way the entertainers obtain experience, this change will cause the entertainer population to drop precipitiously. Good luck getting your bf healed or mind buff then.
As a smuggler, this is going to but a bigtime hinderance on my ability to buy/sell fp, which is supposed to be one of the perks of being a smuggler.
*sigh*.. very regrettable decision.

When I have gone to the large city cantinas lately--such as Coronet--I have rarely found ATK buffers. Oh, there are a few folks who seem ATK, but when asked, they reply that they are not buffing...even when you indicate a preference for a Live as it were Buff. Now if none of the mind/focus/willpower buffers (Musicians/Dancers) have been performing buffs over the past so many months, what HAVE they been doing? The reason I ask is because I HAVE had aDancer and Musician in the past. And when I had them, I HAD to perform. I mean, if a performer does not perform, what ARE they to do? you don't put all your skill points into performance and then go hunting rancors--at least I HOPE you don't, heh.
For those that still are performers and like the decision, congrats. But think about this...
How many of you who now praise the decision to eliminate Macroed entertaining so eagerly USED it to master--that is, how many of you complain about macroing only AFTER you master and not while working TO master you profession? I am NOT saying that all or even many necessarily HAVE done this. But to those who did not complain until AFTER they were done benefitting from AFK entertaining, Shame on you!
To those of you who manually did every flourish and song/dance selection and such and now praise the death knell of the macro-taining, you indeed seem to be a rare breed.
I bring this up only because I have seen in MANY professions SINCE LAUNCH, that folks only complain about their profession being too easy to master AFTER THEY MASTER (not DURING working on master), or mostly complain about macroing after they already macroed THEIR way to master. And that is not right. It should not be a matter of * I got mine but nobody else better get theirs *. If something is wrong--or maybe just not right--it is that way ALL ALONG, not just when convenient. So if you DID macro your way to master, it is not proper to complain when others afk when it suits their purpose. I am not saying folks should or should not macro (I really do NOT understand all the how to macro stuff), only that you shouldnt compain about if YOU have done it.
One other thing I have observed more lately, is that it is all too easy for folks to think that ONLY their profession is noble/important/whatever. This is NOT specifically addressed to entertainers, but to ALL professions. Craftspersons at least sometimes rely on hunters to obtain materials. Hunters rely on craftspeople to produce the weapons they use and the armour they wear. Entertainers rely on craftspeople to make the great outfits they wear. And everyone relies on entertainers for fun, buffs, partying, etc. Medical folks heal and buff entertainers and hunters alike, and buffs can also help craftsfolk with surveying and such. Basicly, ALL the professions are important. Sometimes folks forget that.
Regardless of how you achieved Dancer/Musician, if you think this change is good then I am happy for you. But be ready for customers to justifiably complain if ATK entertainers STILL are not available for buffsAFTER the change.
Anyway, I hope it all does work out well for everyone. And congratulationsfor all the hard work many of you went thru to master your craft. Break a leg, everyone (I mean that in the GOOD showbiz way)

If this goes through I will cancel my both of my accounts.
For those of you cheering "Yay" will you be making the rounds to all of the cities on all of the planets at 1am to serve the customers that were being helped by afkers?
Nope. Was your buffbot making all the rounds to all the cities on all the planets?
No, but everyone on Dantooine knew that they could rely on me 22hrs a day, 6 days a week. I'll put money down that no planet, not even Corellia, will have that kind of reliability.
