Thread: Applying the Mind Buff, a Guide to buffing.
I agree Meeuki.
Doctors can buff 6! stats, and with high end medicines can almost triple a persons pool.
A dancer can buff 1! stat and only double it. And the duration isnt even the same..our maxes out at 2 hours. Doctors buffs can last up to 3 hours. I have timed it.
Not only that but my issue here is not really with doctors but with the developers orginal intent. It has been stated by Holo that Mind incap should never have been the deciding factor in any fight. But as we can see those of us who cant buff our own mind are the ones eating the dirt first in any group on any given day of the week.
Not to mention costing said doctors even more money by having them have to revive us 6 or 10 times a night. All because i can't buff my own head. This does need a change.

active buff, only lightshows, 5 minutes = 100% buff, close to an hour duration.
active buff with lightshows, and flourishes 5-7 minutes= 100% buff, nearly 2 hours duration.
flourishes were spammed around 1 every 8 seconds, lights every 3."
Ooookay.... would someone care to explain to me what I'm doing wrong?
I've been testing this all for a few days now.... and I've had no luck getting anywhere CLOSE to two hours. I've done an Active buff, with non-stop flourishing for 8 mins, and the receipient only had about 45-50 mins duration. I also did an Active, again with non-stop flourishing AND lights as fast as they can cycle, for 8 mins, and he only got 1:10 worth of Mind buff... ![]()

i don't know what to tell you. the only thing i can think of is if everyone runs a similar test and posts their results... hopefully they would be the same but if not maybe we can find a pattern in the differences.
i am going to do 10 minute dances from now on, with X # of flourishes per test. i'll do a 10 minute with no flourishes as a control. only active buffs. i'm going to start with 5 flourishes and work my way up from there until i find a # that gives a 2 hour buff.
if anyone else wants to post their results we can get it all figured out.
I'm a master dancer / master doctor... doctor isn't *nearly* as bad as this guy says, it was pretty easy, just boring doing the crafting and if you make advanced components even that goes very quickly.
Buff packs cost more like 1.5k-2k to make... EVEN if you paid 25cr/unit for EVERY resource that went into it it's only 3k (120 resources total) and you make 20k off each one so that's hardly something to complain about. I charge 5k for a full set of buffs, mostly that's because of the time spent gathering resources and doing the crafting, not the cost of materials.
More importantly he fails to make a case that allowing dancers to buff their own mind would be unbalanced.
Um,sorry about the discussion comparing dance buffs to doctor buffs, but I should point out that I am a Master Dancer/Novice Doctor, so I made the comparison being fully aware of the time and expense a doctor uses.
I see 2 problems with our dance buff other than not being able to buff oursleves:
First, A LOT of master dancers don't know the /setperform command. I didn't understand how it worked until I read this forum.
Second, I need to buy a kitchen timer to help time the buffing. That's not a big deal, but something to make note.
He said that Windows and SWG may "cache" (save) temporary files on your PCand keep them sitting around a while even though you log out.He told me to try logging out, rebooting Windows, and then log in and try again. I did this, and Lo and Behold I was able to buff successfully both my HA with him, and my mind at the cantina. I hope I havent wasted your time, but maybe this can help those people who just can't seem to get buffed.
BTW, If anyone knows or proves that this is true or false, please try to remember to send me an e-mail here and let me know the facts. Just due to time, I probably won't be back here on your forum for a while.
THATS CRAZY YO!
seriously, that's crazy. but if anyone mentions they can't get rebuffed anymore (which has happened) i'll ask them to do that. hmmm i wonder how that would work... you'd think it'd be explotable if it were true?
well last night was totally useless. do you guys pay people to help you test the buffs? crap, i might have to start doing that.
scenario:
me: you want to help me test the buff?
player: sure!!
me: it takes 10 minutes, you have to blah blah blah
player: ok!
3 minutes into the buff
player: it's not working!!!
me: well you have to /stopwatch after 10 minutes, caus-
player: WOOO 2000 mind!!! (/tip 2000) THANKS! (runs off)
me: @#%@##$%^&
anyway i've found doing a 3 minute test works alot better. =p however god does not want me to test these buffs cause as soon as i had a control and 2 others testing, i crashed. but i did get some interesting results....
3 minutes of dancing, with 1 flourish yielded a buff that lasted at least 20 minutes.
10 minutes of dancing with no flourishes yielded a buff that lasted at least 40 minutes.
i have no idea of the max times of either of those buffs because the 10 minute control died, and the 3 minute control logged off. it was also interesting that some players were immensly happy with a 20 minute buff. when they asked how long it would last and i said 'maybe a half hour' they were estatic, which i found really interesting. anyway, i'll do more tests later.
You're not on Eclipse server by chance, are you? If you are, let me know. I am usually on around 11PM CST (GMT+6) in Bestine on Tatooine. I'll be glad to help you test... and I'll tip you!
gorath.. doh. haha. i'll have to hunt around harder for riflemen.
If anyone needs help testing these out on Ahazi, send Crymsin a tell, I'll be happy to play guinea pig ![]()
And I'll even sit still for as long as you need me to ![]()
my results last night were totally inconclusive.
my control (3 minutes no flourishes) lasted 26 minutes... my test (3 minutes 1 flourish) lasted 20 minutes. ARGH.
Meeuki, bless your heart for trying so hard to figure this out! You've got far more patience than I do! As for test subjects, I'd recommend other dancers. I think some of the issues are because customers don't understand that they really do still have to /watch and /stopwatch. They see "%TT turns their attention toward you" and think, "alrighty then!" and forget to /watch or don't check to be certain the /watch "took" (as sometimes it doesn't).
I have mostly been buffing groups and usually pvp'ers and that makes it hard to guage the buff duration because..well, some of them die or log out or...well, stuff happens. I've only had one person say the buff didn't take and he was in a group. The only other complaint I've heard was that the person died before he got to see how long it would have lasted. (offered him his tip back but he was gracious and said for me to keep it).
I've been spending a great deal of time explaining how buffs work to customers. They're really excitedand confused about them. I'm really glad to be able to do them. Hopefully, we'll figure this out soon and the guessing game will be over.
