Thread: At what point is it considered sexual harrassment?
One can also hang up the phone, change their phone number, move to another town, etc. But regardless of the fact that they can 'run away from the abuse' it is still illegal. Same is true here. And the devs do seem to listen so far.
I reported someone for something and they were gone within minutes. Just vanished never to return. 
Maybe they just lost the character but that is more than enough for me. So just remember, whether you agree or not, someone out there is taking this as seriously as those of us on this post.

You're kidding, right? If those who play entertainers don't want to deal with outright pornographic suggestions, they're not suited to play in MMOs? LOL Let me guess, that's how you like to unwind at the end of a long day hunting?
The reality is that 1) profanity filters and ignore only work so far, and it still doesn't excuse behavior that crosses the lines from explicit or flirtatious to outright pornographic or harrassing, and 2) there are NO in game tools for Entertainers to NOT service people, other than to stop (which I've done on more than one occasion).
I flirt with customers. Absolutely. And I get asked out on in-game dates, told that people want to get to know me better 'personally' (ie, ooc), have people bring me gifts, suggest lapdances, etc. - even make provocative comments about things they'd like to do on alone time, etc. That is FAR different than proclaiming via public channels or tells in explicit detail the things they'd like to do to me, or harrassing me to the point that I cannot interact with other entertainers and customers.
When people are violating the terms of service, ruining the gameplay of the person they are harrassing, etc. it's got nothing to do with punition or vengeance, it's got to do withthem needing to find a single player RPG, or perhaps a more satisfying sex life.
I'm not trying to defend people that go way overboard with sexually explicit language. I'm not trying to defend people's right to sexually harass other people.I am trying to establish that the atmosphere of people reporting things they don't like is absolutely wrong and could destroy this game. An earlier poster suggested that she "reported someone for something" and that person vanished, never to return. That chills me to the core. It is very juvenile behaviour, and it reeks of someone who has not learned to be independant in life.
When it comes right down to it, ALL of us have done something that someone else doesn't like. Even those of you who feel you've been nothing but nice, probably have a number of players who think that you are "lame". Do we want to leave in an uber-PC atmosphere where you have to watch everything you say, and everything you do? Let's face it: with a small staff of CSR's serving a customer base of tens of thousands, there is little time to establish the guilt or innoncence of a player. In this case, it is very likely that players will be found guilty without a proper investigation.
I don't want to play in that kind of environment. No one does. So, for the sake of the game, I'm asking that people grow a thicker skin, or play something else.
We'll just have to agree to disagree, Bulbous. It's got nothing to do with "PC" or "getting rid of people". I've put up with a lot of crap from a lot of people, I disagree with a lot of playstyles, and have no problem with that. You're missing that this is very different than someone walking into the cantina and talking about where they'd like to lick you, how bad they'd like to **edit** you, etc etc. Fine, so /ignore them. And then they stick around, and if you sit in a chair, they sit on top of you. If you're dancing, they stand right in front of you, or move around to be in the way. You leave, they follow. I'm sorry, but that just crosses lines, and has nothing to do with a thick skin - when someone like that follows you around, you can no longer play or enjoy the game, and that's where lines should be drawn.
If people are worried about being found 'guilty' without a proper 'investigation', perhaps they should think before acting like pre-pubescent 14 year old boys who've found a new outlet for porn, and then resort to whatever they can if they don't get the reaction they want.
Bulb, I agree. Were those two separate people, you're probably right - I meant that if I used /ignore or the profanity filter to get rid of what said person was saying, they'd continue to do things like they did.
Both examples happened to me, and in no case have I reported anyone, but I don't think I'd have been wrong to report the first guy

This is a young game. There are going to have to be boundaries defined. Unfortunately, that means that some people will get away with things, and some people who probably didn't do something that horrible may be banned - when the boundaries are more clear, it will be better for everyone.
lol the poster is just a big, old fashioned attention w hore, a type of internet poster that can be found on numerous online forums. They couldn't post this in another post, or talk to someone else in game about it, or anything - they had to make a whole new topic "look at me everyone! i was sexually harassed in a computer game! I'm afraid I might be pregnant!I'm also going to add in that I'm married and my husband was there, and we can have a big soapy drama! Everyone pay attention to me!" The harasser-in-question was nothing but a collection of variously coloured pixels with a vector skeleton.
I wish i made my account name to something more femine, like Jennifer or something. Then everyone would be convinced i'm a real girl. Then i can make a nice, bs story about howwhen I was having fun innocently belly-dancing and rolling my bountiful hips andchest,i waspushed out of a cantina by a pair of wookies (even though character collision doesn't exist!) and was verbally r aped and the pure emotional shock did not enable me to type /ignore Chewbacca.. i have to take therpay three times a week now and had to quit my job. I'm sueing Sony. Oh yeah, and look, I'm important!
I will agree on one point: The player who uses language like you've described should be banned. I'm not defending that. It's offensive to anyone.
But, the player who follows you around, sits in your chair, stands by you in the stage, etc. isn't crossing a line. He's playing the game. Shoot, he may even be role-playing an obsessed fan, and there's nothing wrong with that. We need to have very clear distinctions between the two behaviours.
I have a story that fits into this thread.
I had read several threads about this type of behavior and worse that some entertainers have had to deal with. I was surprised at how many people said /ignore it. Really?
I returned to my home planet of Rori after some pretty arduous traveling experiences had left me with a dire need for BF and mind healing. I went to the Hotel in Restuss and there were no entertainers performing. I shouted and asked if anyone would be so kind as to perform. A dancer ran in and began performing, and roleplaying with me. I tipped her 2 credits per point that I needed healed, and sat back to watch the show. I could "hear" two characters outside, they were begging for money and equipment. I was not impressed with them in the least. Every sentence contained a curse word, and they were so rude that they even ridiculed the people that were foolish (nice?) enough to donate credits or equipment to them. Then I heard one state "Let's go into the cantina." Again.. I was not thrilled to hear they were coming in. Of course they had to prove my assumption that they would be jerks, 100%. The first words out of the "leader's" mouth were "Dance for me Bi***" She asked me if there were a way to report the behaviour. I told her there was, and how, and then told her to announce to the bar in general that she would not perform until the two rude individuals left. They continued a harrassing line of comments, and I stood up and told them to both leave. They laughed and one ran up and emoted belching in my face. I then called out my pet, one Baby Giant Sand Beetle. They were astounded at the size of the creature, and started back pedaling. I then told them "Now leave before he gets hungry." They apologized to the dancer and turned to leave. One announced, "We didn't mean to start trouble." I told them, "Too late, you annoy the performers, the performers don't entertain, I don't get healed... YOU HAVE STARTED TROUBLE!"
If you see outright disruptive behaviour in a club.. don't ignore it. Don't let it slide.
Don't make excuses for not interfering and calling it Role-Playing. If I were in a club, real life or in a game, and someone interuppted the show that I was enjoying, I would deal with them. DEAL WITH THEM! If I were role-playing a jerk ( and I have) I would expect to be ignored, kicked out, or worse have my account banned. Role-playing doesn't mean ruining some one else's enjoyment of the game. Don't tell me that some pre-pubescent jerk being rude is role playing. I guarantee you, the ring leader of that little scenario is a jerk in the game, and jerk in real life. He wasn't role-playing anything, he was just being himself.
Role players don't apologize for rude behaviour and then start doing the exact same thing again. Where in there were they being true to a characer?

The story happened all most verbatim the way that I told it. I only edited out the over abundance of abuse that spewed out of the ring leaders mouth.
Obviously they were new and didn't know the pet could not attack them in that situation. You doubt my veracity because they didn't know the actual limitations?
You need to read with a more open mind, try to read the meaning and implications behind the words. Quit skimming the posts and interpreting them according to your preconceptions.
BTW, In my post I added to the discussion and gave my opinion on a possible course of action to curb the behavior. What was constructive about your post? I must have missed that.
