I don't care if all bots instantly are banned from the game, people will still be playing Entertainers in the big cities. JTL enables instant travel. Go to Coronet, go to Theed. It's really not that much of an effort.

Add to this that it might help if Players started using the planet map to look for cantina's that are manned (Shown by the little "sun" symbol on the map) I mean people claim it takes "Forever" to find an entertainer..Open up the planet map and Oooh.. There you have it.. and it takes all of 2 seconds

Scip once repeatedly bandflourished footloose flo 5 until he was unceremoniously booted from the group (remember that, Eshi?). Come to think of it, I haven't invited him to a party since. LOL!

Actually, now that I think about it, I think he was briefly booted from the cantina. Ah, funny stuff.

I'm trying to convince him that he has succeeded in being an endless source of frustration and without having to /bandflo the goofy dances. It's not working.

Having said that I love recursive macro's when chilling out with friends in a cantina for instance so I'd hope that we can make macro's pretty long in length.

I've done some experimentation in this area. The character limit for macros is 990 characters. At least, that's where my longer ones get cut off.

You can paste a longer one into the macro window and it will work. If there's an upper limit, I haven't found it. But when you log out, the next time you log back in it will be truncated at the 990 character mark.

I have a few performance macros designed to fit into the limit, and they last about 15 minutes or so. You can extend that by having longer pauses between flourishes, of course.

You could also use aliases, but I don't like the alias spam in the chat window. I do use the fewest possible characters for each command:

/flourish: /flo
/bandflourish: /bandf
/startdance: /startd
/stopdance: /stopd
/colorlights: /co

/pause, unfortunately, can't be abbreviated.

It was just about six months ago--maybe going on seven now--that TH posted the first "Recursive Macros Are Going Away" thread. I was reading these boards at the time. I had seen the videos from Javier and Balgosa and loved them, but I'd just about decided not to buy the game because of all the AFKers. I changed my mind because of that thread. I hope this isn't a joke.

If any person has reason why recursive macros should not be removed, please speak now or forever hold your peace.

In response to the poster who said they do not like having to click their macro, I think it is pretty reasonable to expect a live performer to click a button at least once every five minutes or so.

Honestly, this announcement has me very excited. This will mean the end to widespread /blinking, /yawning, etc., to stay logged in for hours on end, and cantinas that have AFK'ers will at most be slightly more full than they would, without the random spam that accompanies recursive macros.

And to Lelisia, I think it is only reasonable for us to be impassioned about our profession. I don't think that's an excuse for being rude, and I don't think that was intended. The truth is that many Entertainers now ARE just rp...but if we have more than two passive abilities, that WILL change. I have not spent a regular timespot in a cantina for quite a while...but when anyone sends me a tell looking for a BF heal or an inspiration buff, I am only too happy to help!

The one thing all Entertainers have in common is a desire to perform and be recognized for it. For some, money is the ultimate show of that. For others, gifts. For many like me, though, it's just in knowing that we have a useful and unique ability to help our friends. And for that reason, when someone asks me for a buff, I know it'll only take less than five minutes of my time to travel and perform, so it's my pleasure to help.

If you can find five people on your entire server like that, you will rarely if ever find yourself needing an Entertainer and not being able to get one.

I can list off 30 entertainers on my friendslist whom are active, but I guess I need to find non RP entertainers since the ones I know do more then just play music or danceand are not consistant in any cantina. Not that it really matters to /me/ since I have the standard musician Alt-lot-mule that I can just pull out if need be, rather do that then forsake RP to wander into large cities polluted by l33t's and the like.

If the above statement is true, ie:

  • Youknow 30people who are entertainers

  • These 30 people are active

  • They can all be considered friends

Then, I don't really understand why you can't find one of those 30 people to either come to you, or for you to go to them for BF healing at any given time. You'd do the same for any other profession you needed, right?

Some are on for short time spans, some are unable to perform for RP reasons, some are busy. As I said I guessI just need to find a non RP entertainer who will be consistantly pounding the keys in some cantina or just whip out the musician alt-lot-mule.

Also for future reference Warryyr you don't need to 'assume' so much about someone when counter posting, even if you the topic is something you are passionate about. Guess thats something you learn when you hit around 5000 posts?

Errr, ok...I don't think I was assuming very much at all.

Meh recursive macro or not there will still be plenty of buffbots. And thankfully too, since the majority of ATK entertainers are not up late at night. I support both ATK and Buffbot entertainers sinceone if good for RP and one is good for functionality of the game.

Butit will be ironicif SoE succeeds in getting rid of buffbots altogether and be forced to put in NPC entertainers to heal BF.

There's no assumption here. You're saying that NPC players, or just plain outright NPC's, are good for the "functionality of the game" and live Entertainers are "good for RP."

As I said, it can't be all about you all of the time. If you want another player's services, ask the player. You say you want an NPC that heals Battle Fatigue, or you think live Ents are good for RP and buffbot/NPC's are somehow good for the functionality of the game. Or, you have your alt for instant gratification if you bother logging them in. This is an entirely selfish attitude. You want your healing, and you want it on demand, without effort.

In an MMORPG, different players possess different skills. If you want to benefit from their skills, you're going to have to ask them, and do some networking to find and maintain connections to folks who have the skills you're after at any given time.

I guess that's something you learn after being registered on the forums for 2 years...

Login your mule, I mean...whatever. But having a stance of championing NPC's to assume the role of players is disturbing to say the least, and would be detrimental to this game as a whole. How long until Doctor NPC's? What about combat NPC's? Make the profession useful to the game community and interesting to play, and people will assume the role.

Pressing F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6 F7 F8 all the time to flourish while playing or dancing gets tiresome.

That's what i use my macros for, to not have to press the flourish keys, not for going AFK.

Why not kick players off the server (not ban, kick) that don't type or interact with the game instead?
