I like what I hear! I don't think they would be so specific unless they actually have the plans in the works, so it sounds very promising to me.

Also, LA, I suggest you go to here if you want to discuss pros and cons of buffbots. It would be horrible to see this thread turn into a flamewar between bots and Entertainers.

And remember, they already put in some NPC musicians, they're called jukeboxes. Now that I think of it, there's alsoan NPC dancer in front of the Moenia starport.

Up late at night ? How sadly true... Ohh wait no it's not. As I myself tend to play in the 12-4/5am EST range... and I also know of OTHER live ents that play then also.. So this late at night is ... when again ?

Doesn't matter much though as BF is a joke and no one honestly NEEDs it to be healed. And those rare instan ces when they might need it healed they would honestly only need it every couple weeks unless they are a sucky pilot or a newbie and don't store their clone data near by so they end up cloning where they don't have their data stored.

The new buffs you will make more XP/faction if you just spent the time it takes to get the buff... out there getting faction or XP.

And with how recently we were told that ATK incentives would be given to future buffs would really seem to imply they have the same idea in mind as they had for the afk sampling... where you still can do it just perfectly fine.

I certainly hope they go about this in the right way while still leaving the macro system overall intact as there are many good and valid reasons that people use the great macro system.
But I honestly don't think they will. It will end up being a hack job IF they do it.

I also find it sad they are un-willing to re-state that we are getting an Entertainer revamp in 05. Or at least state that there is still one in the works but that they have no time frame for it now.

Ahh well I'll be watching from the sidelines soon enough.

After all the broken promises and complete about-faces the devs have done in this game, all I can say is, I'll believe it when I see it.

Mesca Phost - Scylla - Rifleman/Ranger/Pilot
Crem Darkstrider - Wanderhome - Smuggler/TK/Brawler/Pilot
Mesca' Phost - Bria - Grand Master Entertainer
(Master Ent/Music/Dance/ID)

Cancelled 7/27/05 - I joined to play Star Wars, not Jedi-BH Wars. You've ignored/gutted/abused just about every other profession in the game, while spending most of your time working on Jedi and BH as they related to Jedi. You've basically killed the game for anyone who doesn't want the glowstick. Congratulations.

If AFKing has to go to get rid of Buffbots then ok... I just wish the devs would take the time to find anohter way..

Post wasn't mean to turn into a flame war, I like both sides. As for jukeboxes yeah they are great, but they don't heal BF. Just be mindful of what you ask for, great example is the CU. We asked for the old system to be fixed.. and instead we got the CU. Hopefully ATK'ers will step up and provide at all hoursso the combat professions won't press for an NPC entertainer alternative.

As a sidenote I really do wish they would do a musician upgrade and allow players to compose.

As an avid alias user, they are much less open to recursive abuse.

I'm a horrible typer, so I like to be able to run my alias/macros through a spellchecker before I use them. From experience a single line in an alias is really short, and you need to call several (I think 5) before it will let you form a recursive loop. /smile;/pause 50;/macro smile just isn't possible.

It's also a lot simpler for SOE to jam abuse if it starts. Right now you can write your own complete file, put it on the web and let anyone download it. If SOE removes one simple, otherwise useless command from player access that immediately becomes impossible. Dosen't render aliases useless but stops them being distributed.

I am _not_ a buffbot btw, and never have been. Most of these aliases are songs, coreographed dance routines and stripdances for a RP club, the only time I have to force loops is if I need to chain several together to form a long running routine, and from those I know that there _are_ loop limits.

Just another quick thought on this topic...

Does this mean they'll be changing the way inspiration buffs work? Currently you don't need a recursive macro to provide an inspiration buff. So I can only assume that this will change so that "this will eliminate the AFK entertainers..."

When Entertainer professions are fun to play, and can only be PLAYED and not BOTTED like they've been for over a year now, people will actually play the profession. I fail to understand why people persist on spreading this idea that each and every single Entertainer goes to bed at 9pm EST US, and thus "late night" Entertainers don't exist.

They do exist, and the important thing is when they have a reason to exist again and are fun to play, then there will be no shortage of Entertainers.

My only fear is this continual and fervent perception of countless people that they can "never" find an Entertainer. One person yells it, another one chimes in, and soon apparently every server is played almost exclusively at "off hours."

I'm not doubting that you might have had trouble finding Entertainers who actually played the game before. That's because you weren't really looking - you were going to the handy buffbot joke of a player who stood in one spot. No profession in this game is an NPC profession. Entertainers were never meant to become this, and the single greatest disservice to this entire game is to scream for Entertainers to become NPC's. If they do it, they may as well make:

Crafting NPC's. I want my armor, weapons, food, anything at any given moment, guaranteed, the moment I demand it.

Combat NPC's. I want an instant group of combatants, a full 8 combatants, the moment I want it.

Medic/Doc NPC's. I want heals and buffs and everything else coming to me, the moment I want it.

In other words, let's all play SWG by letting SWG play itself. Now that's a fun game, isn't it? Let's all watch our NPC's interact with other NPC's.

Replace any professions with NPC's and this game will fall apart. The state of Entertainers should never have gotten this far, and just because we've had our professions mocked by player NPC's for overa year doesn't mean it's needed. It means it screwed up this end of the game, and yes - getting people to play Entertainer will take some time. If it's fun and rewarding, it'll happen.

And as far as Battle Fatigue goes, pleeeeeease. I've fought for 3 days and gotten 4 Battle Fatigue. If you're dying enough to need healing, any major city cantina will have someone there dancing or playing music. I don't care if all bots instantly are banned from the game, people will still be playing Entertainers in the big cities. JTL enables instant travel. Go to Coronet, go to Theed. It's really not that much of an effort.

Also, it would do you well to look around you while running around doing your thing. See that Master Dancer/Master Musician running by? Put them on your FRIENDS LIST and send them a /tell asking if they can perform for you. I do it all the time. Really not a big deal. It's a massively multiplayer online role playing game. It can't be all about you all of the time.

I thought about that too, "You only need to do one action every half hour to stay connected, you can do a really long macro and be on for like 12 hours..."

But then I remembered that no flourish = no exp, so I really don't think there is going to be a huge number of people who care about the small amounts of exp they'll get from AFKing, and putting exp gaining flourishes into the macro would of course make it not able to last as long without needing to be restarted.

Also, don't forget that the inspiration system we have now is a replacement for wound healing. You could wound heal without flourishing before as well. This is our basic underlying ability now, the "always on regardless" thing. I assume that whatever elite inspiration related abilities they've promised us are coming will have some other thing we need to perform in order to accomplish them.

Of course I just REALLY hope it's not the system of the patron getting a list of what flourishes to tell the entertainer to perform. That is about the only thing I can think of that would make me quit. :I

But experience gain isn't needed for masters or even any other level that's not trying to earn another skill box. The implication in the Dev answer is that "all" afk entertainers" would go away. My point is simply that if they plan to do that by removing recursive macros then it won't succeed.

Believe me I haven't forgotten that there's "something shiny and new" that has yet to be revealed. But bots are still common on my server and even if entertainers gained some other enhancement that required interaction of some sort I don't think those bots are going away.
