Dancer Archive
Thread: Top 5 issues You have with our profession.
Hello all
I would like to give some perspective from the other side of the fence. I an not a dancer. I am a player that loved the PvP side of the game. I have 2 accounts and one is my PvP account, and the other is an account to buff my PvP guy. (I didn’t say I wanted PvP to be fair lol).
With the mind buff of a dancer, I have decided to raise my second account to master dancer. He is a master doc now for the other buffs. That being said I am one of those LAME’ers you guys have been talking about. Not here to rebut that, just here cuz as a non-dancer reading these forums, I have a different perspective to share.
First off, some comments about what I have read here:

1. ... Could we get some npc backup dancers/musicians i can set up in there 24/7, so people will know that if they come to my place, they'll be able to get healed up?
4. afkers - what i would REALLY like to see is some enforcement here. ...
---
4 seems to help solve 1. Not sure why one would want NPC’s that danced 24, and not want a player 24 afk. Seems like the same thing to me. Other then you Know the NPC will be there.

Issue #2: LAMErs - Long-term Afk Macro Entertainers are horrible for the dance and music professions. ...
Solution to issue #2 - Lots of these have been discussed, but I think the two best are either of the following. 1. Make /startdance take no arguments, so you HAVE to button-press to choose the dance. This means you could macro till your action bar goes away, and then your dancer would stop, and you would not be able to /startdance basic2 or whatever, because you'd get an error message: "Command basic2 not recognized." Bye-bye AFK Macroing. ...

As a master doctor, I never use action to dance. If I buff my quickness it’s free for 2-3 hours. So, I only get 2-3 hours of afk macroing, but I still get 2-3 hours.

?!!? are you people on CRACK?! our entire profession can be mastered in 2 weeks *without* afk macroing and you are complaining about experience costs? holy god!
---
Not sure how this is possible without putting in 8-10 hours a day everyday, but even if it is, I mastered Doc in 6 days. Only putting 2-4 hours a day into it. I think that’s to quick to get to master mind you, but for those 4 hours I worked constantly and maximized the XP. There is no way as a dancer to rapidly gain XP. I have had my char dance macroing for 3 days now (with me on my other char) and he is a 0,0,0,1 dancer atm. If I had to actively play him, I would never get there. I would just give up.

I wanna' get FP for dancing Overt and healing other Overts. If I'm gonna' dance in a Cantina with that little Imperial logo floating over my head and put myself in harms way, I think I deserve the FP (not massive amounts... but at least a decent handful of FP for each overt that walks in), and possibly even a slightly larger buff to them.
---
Not a bad idea, but easily exploitable. I like this idea if you have to be in a public cantina to get the FP.
Ok, here is why I think afk dancers should be allowed. And I am not saying this because I want to do it, I will be a master before any change is implemented anyway. As a fighter, unless your a TK, you have no way to get your mind back other then entertainment. If I am playing at 4 in the morning, and decide to enter the cornet cantina, all the dancers there are afk. If afk was not allowed, I would have no way in the game, other then flying all over the galaxy looking for a dancer, to fix my mind. I would have no problems if there was an NPC I could pay a large amount of money to get my mind fixed. But as it stands now, removing afk macroing would really hurt the non entertaining community.
Also, I find it odd to have LAME'ers in this list from so many people because if it was removed, it would not make your gamming experience any better. Here, from a non entertainers point of view, is what I would do.
1. If someone watches a dancer, inform that dancer there being watched. Along with this give the dancer the ability to refuse future service to players. That way if not tiped the dancer can elect to not service that individual in the future.
2. Self buff. Every other class in the game that buffs can self buff, no idea why dancers can’t.
3. Give Dancers a droid like medics can have, so they can dance anywhere (other then medical centers)
4. Allow a dancer to buff more then one person at a time, or make the timer shorter. (yea, this one is for me
)
5. Make the XP earned is based only on the level of the dancers experience, not on the dance itself. If a high level dancer uses basic they should get the same XP as if they used exotic. The way it is now you get a bunch of peeps doing the same dance.
two things: at the top of my post it should say: love the PvP side of the game, not loved
also, for my #1 in the list. It should also let you know how much you healed, so you can tell if it's a good tip for what you did.

Absolutely! I didn't mean getting FP for dancing Overt in your locked house with only 4 or 5 people on the Entry list... that would just be silly. I'm talking about getting FP for dancing Overt anywhere you can be attacked but others...
- Make the rewards at the top of the skill trees greater. Especially distinguish Masters from Novices more. (Shouldn't this be true of any elite profession anyway) Suggestions for this:
- better mission payouts for higher levels of skill (lol right now I guess we need higher mission payouts for all of the ent missions, but that wasn't my point)
- abilities based on skill level that are less "showy" and more practical - like a Master could do two targeted mind buffs at once because he/she has achieved a greater level of skill and concentration (I'm not wanting mind buffs nerfed at all for the novices, I just want greater rewards at the end of the profession)
- maybe Master Dancers are skilled enough that they CAN heal BF slowly in camps so that they are more useful in combat groups and valued a bit more (no I didn't master dancing expecting to be useful in combat groups, but I'm sure as heck not making enough to pay the bills from tips/ent missions, so when I group it'd be nice to have more to do)
- ok maybe this is lame, but wouldn't it be cool if MDs got a bonus inventory to carry more clothing and make it easier to change outfits?
- reduced action penalties as you go up the skill trees...really, I didn't get to Master Dancer by not getting into better shape you know! All that falling is very aerobic too.
- better mission payouts for higher levels of skill (lol right now I guess we need higher mission payouts for all of the ent missions, but that wasn't my point)
- Some sort of way to detect who is watching and who isn't. I know that if you look carefully at the avatars you can sometimes tell by their eyes that they are watching someone dance, but thats not really enough. Too many times I've had mindbuffs fail because the person I'm buffing thought they were watching but they weren't. I try to be nice about it, but generally it takes us both getting frustrated before they admit they didn't watch me or something.
- Dance missions are lame in general. Lame payout, lame RP, lame strategy, lame fun...
- I know cantinas aren't exactly the nicest places, but a few small changes could go a long way. Right now, 90% of the mind healing happens right in front of the bar as you first go in the main room. The groups are almost always right there.
- The lighting is horrible right there...really bad, I can't even tell what color lipstick I'm wearing sometimes. Obviously we don't want the cantina lit up like Vegas, but the lighting sucks for something thats so visually important.
- Don't let the NPCs spawn right there anymore, its distracting and noisy. Honestly, we dancers would totally gang up and kick their butts over to the side. Its hard enough to be seen in the sea of blue AFKers without NPCs stealing our space.
- scoot the tables out a bit more towards the sides of the room and put them along the walls so the folks coming in to chat and have a drink can see the dancers more

- how about signs asking patrons to please not lets thier pets step all over us...

- Falling - unless someone can come up with a really good explanation of why being ME and MD makes one less likely to fall, then I think MDs shouldn't fall, except maybe when really really low on action or something. Honestly, do you really learn that much more grace going up the ME trees? I don't think being an MD makes me a better musician
Regardless of all that, you just should not fall so much as Master or even when getting close to Master. Its horrifying to be dancing for someone and fall three times in a row as a Master. I honestly just want to drop link and come back in a few days. I spent a lot of money getting all dressed up and a lot of time practicing my moves and then I fall all over like a drunk??? Please...
Top Issues for me as a master dancer (not in any particular order):
1. FALLING AT MASTER DANCER- yes, its already been mentioned a million-and-one times, but I'm added in my two cents worth. We should not be falling at a master level. I thought the idea of the tech line reducing the amount of 'critical failures' was an excellent idea, and it would make the technique line useful instead of just providing light effects. (although they are pretty!)
2. FLOURISHES-we have four dances for exotic, and what, about eight actual flourishes? Who came up with that? I think we need to have more flourishes for these dances, especially because we get them with knowledge 4 and master dancer.
3.Also group commands for /startgroupdance, /changegroupdance and /stopgroupdance would be extremely helpful for those who are trying to put on a choreographed performance.
Possible solutions for all these problems have already been suggested, and I just wanted to add my vote to this. Hope to see these changes in place soon! /crossfingers
1, better missions better pay
2, more flourishes
3. a way to denyservice guild faction
4. less flo falls for master
5. fix register in out of the way areas
"I did that once Kalia, then 3 Rebels walked in, slaughtered me, and then gloated about killing a Dancer <sigh>. At any rate..."
Well, being proudly Overt anywhere is a risk, regardless of your profession. I don't do it very often, cause there's really no reason or incentive for me to, but if there was a reason to dance Overt (gain FP, or enhanced healing/buff to other Overts), I would, in a heartbeat... every night.
And yes, I have beenharassed (not killed)while dancing Overt by someRebels, but they were Covert, and too scared to go declare. It might have had something to do with my "regulars" hanging around, enjoying a drink, all wearing their Master Commando, Master BH, Master Gunfighter, TK Masterand Master CH titles. They were Covert, but the Recruiter was just outside the door. LOL ![]()
1) give us /selfbuff
2) get rid of falls in any dance at reaching novice dancer
3) fix lyrical / formal
(those three are the top ones for me and should all be on place one to fix)
4) take out passive group buff and add /setperform for multiple targets and add bufftimer (the game already knows the duration of your buff, just show it to us as we apply the buff)
5) more florishes taped from real dancers (but we know they are already working on that, just see if they just do a couple more while they are taping them anyway's ![]()

There is no way as a dancer to rapidly gain XP. I have had my char dance macroing for 3 days now (with me on my other char) and he is a 0,0,0,1 dancer atm. If I had to actively play him, I would never get there. I would just give up.
you have to be doing something wrong then.

put some flos in that macro....
Just an update. It's been 4 days and when I get home I will be a 0,0,3,3 Dancer. That's fast movement imo for the class. I will get to master in well under 2 weeks.
I have all 8 flo's in my macro with 15 sec pause. being a master doc I use no action, but only for a few hours. After that it's very slow xp unless there is a medic around. The reason i was gaining so slow was not the flo's, but the fact that I was never grouped. Grouping helps a lot. I have added the /group command (I think it's group) to my macro, so if the group gets disbanded and I am not there I will automatic accept the invitation. Being that the xp is based on the third column, getting from 0,0,4,4 is a lot more then 1/2 way there. I expect to be a master dancer by the end of the next weekend.
I am doing this purely for the buffing ability, not to be a dancer. The way it stands now my char can get to master doc and master dancer. I think right now the big prob is you have a lot of people like me invading your class. We don't care about the class as a true profession; we just want what it can buy us. I think a great way to mitigate that would be to not allow someone to be both a master dancer and a master doc. A doc is a much better buffer and 90% of us will take doc over dance.
At any rate, I know I am the "enemy" so to speak, and see where your coming from. On the up side, once I get to master dancer you will never see me dancing in a cantina AFK again. I will only be dancing to buff my other char.
All I can say is don't be mad at the AFKers, they are just trying to maximize there abilities within the game rules. It’s not an exploit, it within the game design. What you should be upset at is SOE allowing it to happen in the first place. For a combat guy like me it was the same with BH's having eyeshot and Knock Down (it's been kinda fixed). I could easily get oneshot by a BH and it would upset me, but I never got upset at the BH, he is just playing the game how the game is designed. He is not exploiting. Who I got upset at was SOE for allowing that to be part of the game design.
Good luck to you all.
well this thread got hijacked.
if you are macroing for the buffing wouldn't it be better to just go 4/0/0/0? you really need that extra 25% at the expense of 43 skill points?
Yea, sorry for hijacking,
I thought about that, I could go Musician too, and buff the secondary mind as well. But I am a TK, and can do the boost thing. The boost takes 50% of your mind and adds it to all three bars. So, my main has 1100 mind, with the dancer buff that doubles, so 2200. I then boost that to 3300 with the TK. Also adding 1100 to my action and heath. If I didn’t go master, I would get a buff of 825, giving me 1925 mind. 1/2 of my total mind after that is a boost of 962 across all health, action, and mind. Giving me 2887 mind (413 dif). Along with the other ham bars, I loose a total of 689 points. Well worth the extra skill points. Also, if I am a dancer, I mine as well be a 4,0,0,4 dancer so I can reduce BF quickly. Lastly, this char is strictly for buffing, what else am I going do with the points? Can’t get much of Chef, and if I did go up the music line, it would take to long to apply both buffs.
