Ok, let me try to put in my veiw. Getting a new skill give you a sense of accomlishment, if it didn't no one would play this game. Now, I am a student in high school, a place I have to go every day. When I am at school, I keep the game on and macro dance. Why is this wrong? I get a skill a bit faster, thus making me happier. Also, it isn't like this profession is interactive. I can do anything else with my character while dancing. Conversations with people rarly last more than 20 min and come about 30min inbetween when I am watching the screen. I also dont think it is immoral to do this. I mean come on people, immoral is stealing not using the games funtions to their full extent. Macros were made so you dont have to touch anything. If they were something else we would not be able to use commands like /ui action toolbarSlot00 in them. So why dont you 'nonafkers' accept that some of us dont want to sit at our characters dancing for hours and move on. Thanks,

The ability to trigger a toolbar slot is NOT designed for macros looping. It allows you to do things you otherwise couldn't do in macros - things like equipping/unequipping armor or weapons, opening crafting tools, opening survey devices...

And if you think that the game is meant to be played unattended, perhaps you have the wrong game. Maybe you should go <a href=http://www.progressquest.com>here</a> instead for a game more your speed. I'm already level 37 and I haven't had to do a thing.

Have you thought about what will happen once all the holocron-monkeys get their FS slots, and only the real entertainers are left to heal BF?

Who's going to heal your BF, Mr. Jedi? Because it won't be any of the entertainers whose profession you trivialized with AFK-macro-spamming for heals.

So what, you've made it your personal crusade now to follow me around from forum to forum, my little holo-monkey? Did the widdle holocron tell you that AFK-macroing wasn't enough, that you had to come in here and stalk the dancers in there forum, too?

I guess I don't need any 13 year olds fawning over me (your words) - because I've got my own forum stalker now. C'mon over to the merchant forums, where I spend most of my time. We're spewing plenty of hatred for the holo-monkeys over there too, laser-brain.

Ew, let's leave personal attacks (referring to the spat that I did not quote) out of this, please.

The spambots are not the fault of the holotainer. Yes, some holotainers spam stuff, but there has always been garbage like this.

Even before holocrons existed, I had to endure some idiot with the name of "J'Lo" going through a routine of greeting random people, spinning around, and quoting some inane lyrics.

Some spambots are not even AFKers. You know how a lot of us use macros for dance routines so that we can remain social while doing our moves? Some people feel that these routines should involve periodic silly emotes. Which is just lovely when someone explains why he has 200 Mind wounds and the Musician grins like an idiot.

I've not done a study on this, but I hypothesize that holotainers are less likely to spam. In general, that is. I suppose there are still those who say every 2 minutes, "I'm trying to get Heal xp. Watch me please!" Next one I see like that, I'm putting a bantha on top of him so no one can target him. Bwahaha. But in general, the spam comes from people who think they're adding to the atmosphere and want people to believe they're not AFK. Holotainers tend not to care about that sort of thing.

Of course, the spam is ugly all across the board. I saw a surveyor who said, "I'm trying to max out my Surveying XP! Feel free to heal me. If you buff, send me mail so I can pay you later." And a scout/ranger asking for people to stop in. Not to mention all the people who shout, "Training ALL Marksman, blah, blah, blah." Next Marksman I see, I'm going to give him all his Apprentice Points in one blow so he can shut the snark up! Of course, I'll ask for a hefty payment. That Combat XP doesn't come cheap.

But I would classifly spambots differently from holotainers. I do not think one is a subset of the other. I don't approve of AFKing, but it's there and not going away. Spammers I do hate and will /report any abusive use of that.

Love Star Wars, but the few role-players I could find on the servers were outnumbered by powergamers who wanted only l337 l00t and mad skillz. I can't justify paying $15 a month to play a game by myself.
Still cares enough to interject an opinion, though.

And also, so you know Faellyn, Every profession I do in the game, I come and participate in the forums, offering my POV, seeking help, finding out that professions issues, and problems. It's how I immerse myself.

If my path says, become a bio-engineer, I'm stopping by the bio-engineer forums to lookup on issues, chat with people, why!? Because becoming a jedi like the devs said, is experincing many aspects of the game, how better to find out issues, and goings on then read the forums. I have nothing personal again you, and could honestly care less about you. But, when someone goes out of there to post complete and utter falsehoods, and cry poor me, and call for changes just so you can feel better. That's wrong, and child like. We had a decent debate going, and suddenly I'm a holo-monkey and a lazer-brain, so I ask you. Who is child like? You attack me, I'm attacking back.

Enough said.

This reminds me ofthe book Huckleberry Finn(not sure if that is spelled right) there is a dispute between two families and when Hucks asks why they are fight they dont know. I think this might be the case. Here is my question, as an afker who has no problem with non-afkers, why do you have such a problem with us. We are more people in your groups so you get more xp, we dont steal credits or anyhting cause no one tips anyways. So the only explanation that I can think of is that we are nor there to talk to you. Thats all I have, is that wrong?

Nerdcool...

The reason real dancers and musicians do not like AFKers is not personal and it has nothing at all to do with experience. It's because AFKers turn cantinas into, to use Sultrina's wonderful words, "a sewer of zombies". As an AFKer maybe you don't understand this but to a real performer the appearance and look of the performance is important. You probably don't care. Maybe nobody else cares. But we care. We like what we do and we want it to look good. It can't look good with a bunch of people all over the place, macroing way, and in my way, forcing me to either "dance through them" or go over into an out of the way corner. The AFKers cannot be asked, politely, to please move, because they are not at keyboard. So that forces US to move, usually into another cantina. One with no other performers, no patrons, nobody to talk to, and a feeling like we have been forced out of a place we have every bit as much right to perform in as an AFKer, because we care what the performance looks like, and it cannot look good in a zombie graveyard.

We don't hate AFKers; we hate what AFK has done to the cantinas. Before AFK play became prevalent on my server, the cantina was a happening place. Performers socialized and the patrons who came in chatted with us and everyone had fun. But then AFK showed its ugly face, and the cantina became silent, and nobody talked, and we dancers could not only not perform properly (see above) but also had nobody left to talk to. And guess what? True performers are socializers. We took a poll on this forum and out of 30 or 40 dedicated performers, all but one ranked socializing as the #1 or #2 activity they like to do in game. You can't socialize with people who aren't there.

It has been argued that AFK macroing didn't do this; the people macroing wouldn't have enjoyed the profession anyway and so they wouldn't have been there to socialize. This is both true and false. It is true that the AFK macroers wouldn't be there to socialize anyway, but it is nto true that this is nto the fault of AFK macro ability. The AFK macroers are people (they admit this) who view dancing as boring or repetitive -- a snooze, in other words. Yet for whatever reason they do it anyway. Without the AFK macro ability, these people would have just quit the profession or never started it. Who would be left then? Fewer people but 100% of us would be people who loved it, and the cantinas would have remained lively, happening places. Instead the developers put the ability to bot your PC into the game, and now the profession is over-run with people who wouldn't have otherwise bothered, but are mastering it just because they can. This is therefore 100% the fault of AFK macroing.

Finally, AFKing does take away tips, experience, and "market share". On my server nearly every town or outpost that is active has at least one AFK macroer in the cantina. Since the fighters can go get healed from this "bot", they do not need to seek me out. They don't come find me, so I get no heal XP. They don't come find me, so I get no tips. When they see me in a star port or shuttle stop, they don't send me a tell asking if I would like to join their hunt groups so they can get heals, because they know that wherever they are going, they have no need of me -- because there is a 99% chance that an AFK heal bot is already there at the destination, ready to heal them automatically for free.

This last set of things -- the game stuff AFK dancebots take away -- really are a minor concern to me and most other dancers. I think most of us are upset because AFK macroing has destroyed the atmosphere of the cantina that we loved so much earlier in the game. The cantina full of active patrons and performers was a socilizing-roleplaying player's dream come true. But it's all gone now. And that's entirely due to AFK entertainment.

I agree with most of the points made against AFk entertainers.

But,

every AFKer has their own reasons to do it......

As a master Weaponsmith i get an untold amount of tells every hour, so while im dancing, i have my "AFK"

on with messege like this.....

"Im dancing at <location> today, working on my dancing xp. Will be here for next <number> of days.My vendors are located <planet><town><coordinates>. Currently while im mastering this proffesion, im not accepting customer orders. Please feel free to send me an email, and i will respond to it within 30min.

NOW>.........

as a master weaponsmith....i already spend 90% of my time on-line AFK......since while im constructing something i dont want to be interupted in the middle of assembly

or

while im running away for my dear life after being aggroed by some creature when i was checking harvesters.

AFK does not mean that person does not care to converse......its just means that they could be doing other things at the same time, and already conversing with someone else.
